Is Jim Tressel worth the risk?

He's 63, and might just want to give it one more shot. I don't think he'd be that expensive, relatively speaking to what's out there. Sure he brings some baggage that SL would have a field day with, but we can't do a hire based on them, since they will find stuff no matter what. We need someone who brings instant credibility,or do we go totally opposite and bring in a young guy from a small program who's put together a nice run, and get him on the cheap?

This is freaking Rutgers! Are you kidding?

Tress would no doubt builder a winner any place he went, but he has said many times that his coaching days are over. He loves being a university president. If you want serious contenders for a coach you should hire someone like Luke Fickell or Ed Warinner.

Yes he did build winners , but Youngstown St lucked out not getting clobbered by the NCAA for violations under Tressel because the statute of limitations ran out when they found out Tressel and Youngstown didn't investigate the violations they were supposed to and the NCAA took their word nothing happened. Later ( after Tressel left) found out violations occurred and too many years dad past to punish Youngstown or Tressel.
Do you really think that show cause was just for what happened at OSU and the next school Tressel coaches won't be nailed hard the first time Tressel does something , even a minor violation would get the harshest penalty possible because of the NCAA don't want Tressel coaching, but can't stop a school from hiring him.

It's amazing that Tressel got hit harder than, well, "that" school.
Man, did you just say a mouthful. I can't believe how the NCAA backpedaled on the punishment they originally gave Pedo St. yet Tressel's keeps going on and on like the Energizer Bunny
