Let's go METS 2016 thread ......Just get in and anything can happen!

Latest word from SNY - Jonathan Niese coming back to the Mets! Probably an upgrade over Verrett.
Strongly disagree.

When the Mets traded Niese to the Pirates, he quickly made some disparaging comments about his former team's fielding. And now he has to suit up in front of them again. Also, he not having a very good season...

He's thrown 110 innings for the Pirates, with most of his struggles coming from the home run. If he can get himself correct, he can help the back-end of the rotation and move to the bullpen again, like he did at the end of last season.

They may be able to get something for Granderson in the offseason. I'd keep him because he can play right and center. He'd be a useful backup and/or platoon with Legs.

Defensively any outfield with Granderson and Bruce is terrible.
I don't see them paying all three of Cespedes, Bruce, and Granderson.

TC was just reminded that Niese had made some acrimonious comments about his teammates last year when he left. Collins smiled wryly and said "I think some things will be addressed."

I'm fine with the second trade, but we need a middle reliever. Smoker can take Bastardo's place, but we're still short a solid middle innings guy.
Would not Niese be that guy? Or if Niese replaces Verrett in the rotation, then Verrett becomes that guy.

I'm assuming Verrett moves, but he's not a proven setup man. I thought we could get a quality arm for the middle innings. He may prove me wrong, but I don't think Verrett is that guy.

I think the Brewers played the Mets for the Gomez fiasco.

Now we have the second coming of Jeremy Burnitz. He may lead the NL in RBI but won't keep it up since no Mets get on base. what a disaster.

That's just not true. The problem has never been getting em on but driving them in. Do you even watch the GamEs?

He's leading the league in rbis, is one of the better hitters with RISP, and is 29 and under control next year. That's more than I'd expect to get for our fourth best prospect. He helps as much for this year as next, when Ces leaves for $100 million.
We also have Rivera who right now is a better player, but doesn't have Dilson's high ceiling.

I fully believe the mets will be in the hunt for cespedes' services after he surely opts out. Money won't be the issue they've alway paid for a big star and this guy has been nothing short of frrakin amazing since he's been here. Plus David wrights contract is insured and the guy ain't playing again, mets will retain cespedes. You have a window to win with this pitching.

Bryce Harper by the way is hitting .235. Tired of hearing about him.
Yeah well, he also has 20 HRs and 56 RBIs. And yeah... Daniel Murphy and Wilson Ramos are picking up the slack with their .350, .316 BAs.

And I hope Im wrong but Im afraid that Dusty Baker will do a better job than Matt Williams.

Only way Cespedes and Bruce are with the Mets next year is if D Wright retires, freeing up his money. Thats not going to happen, esp since he shouldve retired this year instead of trying to play with a spinal disorder. Only The Captain, My Captain can get away with such shenanigans. Yet Cespedes gets blasted for diving into the stands going after a foul ball.

Mets wanted to dump bastardo salary for 2017, 6 mill. Niese has a buyout which is cheaper. In short mets made millions and some long relief help. He will be cut if he sucks.

Flores on fire. Said this weeks ago, gotta find a spot for this guy especially now. even against righties. Gotta find out if he finally realized his potential. Can't let him rot away on bench.

With at being said, this mets team is is extremely deep on the bench. With Duda Reyes Ces & to lesser extent Lagares coming back eventually that puts Loney Flores Flores lagares at your top 4 bench players. That's very a formidable bench with a solid starting lineup. Still believe here's a good chance the hitting woes with RISP turns around. Just hope they're in the hunt long enough for this to come to fruition!

Yes i watch the games and the problem is BOTH getting them on and driving them in. The Mets need good hitters rather than more power...they have plenty of that. A contact hitter like Lucroy would have helped this team tremendously, both offensively and defensively. To add another power hitter who is weak defensively wasn;t what I was hoping for. I don't think they gave up much, though, since Herrera seemed to be stagnating...so there is that.

Yeah, 5.5 million cheaper! A move that has to be made with impending cespedes free agency, plus bastardo failed on NYM. a garbage for garbage tradeas well, except mets make out big time. Thanks pitt! Like King High said niese will be used in what was bastardos roll, which bastardo sucked at. A lefty out of pen that can get both L/R handed hitters out. A role niese excelled at last September/October/November.

Only first game and it ain't even over, but Mets hitters seemingly locked in now. Damn walker just missed that. The cure? Yankees crappy pitching lol

Does anyone else find terry to be a terrible manager ? Why wasn't reed in to pitch the 8th inning from the start, he always struggles when he doesn't start the inning. Also why was ruggiano even starting above Nimmo or conforto. It seems terry makes a bad move daily, his moves seem to lead to a lot of mets losses but very rarely contribute to a mets win

Just coming here to make fun the board's Mets fan. I guess we don't need Miller or Chapman to win. :)

Great game. Great come back win for the skankees. Def was a gritty ass victory. Sucks our guy who's been lights out kinda blew it. Love the feeling of the playoff type atmosphere. Sick matchup tomorrow degrom vs tanaka.

Very strange decision IMO for Mets to play for the tie in the 10th when they were out of pitchers. But both Keith and Ron agreed with it, so what do I know.

Tough break on the Rivera grounder. With deAza running on the pitch, that ground ball ties the game as long as it is hit anywhere other than right back to the pitcher, which is where it was hit.

Was there anything ever more predictable than Granderson taking the first pitch down the middle, and then swinging at two in the dirt?

Funny game tonight. Mets can't even handle Sabathia. One friggin guy batting over .260 and he was cut by the offensively-challenged Rays earlier this season.
Mets 54-51...BUYERS
Yankees 53-52...SELLERS
Ah, but they compete in different leagues....VERY different leagues.

Niese for Bastardo! Did not see that coming.

You say the mets shipped out Bastardo.....but it looks to me like there are still lots of bastardos on the mets roster.

They scored 5 runs off CC in 5+ innings lol I mean he was pretty awful & hasn't been an effective starter in a long time. So "can't even handle sabathia" is pretty untrue. At least come on here with accuracy pls...the mets didn't have a slew of their key players play tonight and still were in position to win lol cmon. A lineup including Bruce Reyes and Cespedes makes a world of difference. They lost cause their ace bullpen guy on par with a betances/Miller/chapman (to put it into terms u might actually understand) blew the lead. It happens. You never cease to amaze w the crap you continually spew on this thread kbee...

Disagree. Plenty of opportunities. They draw at least league average # of walks. Lead off doubles go stranded more than I've ever seen. So many missed opportunities. The proof is in the pudding. Worst team with RISP in like the modern era. Bruce is hitting .360 with RISP 3rd in baseball, plus has light tower power. A great move. And defense doesn't matter to this front office (stupidly) this is the team that has horrible OF defense aside from lagares for a while now, a team that started cespedesin game 1 of the WS. Cespedes is a LF. Bruce is at least a wash defensively compared to grandy in RF. The fact is if this team team was league average even w RISP they would have a lot more wins. Regardless of defensive deficiencies.

Their average with RISP as a team as of now is horrid, a teamwide epidemic. Hopefully they don't drag Bruce down with them lol... You always want more chances with guys in scoring position, but honestly any more chances and that average with RISP would just be lower not higher. It's like they just shut down in the big spots. Never seen anything like it.

Our worst pitcher started last night. Was a great game and as soon as Lugo came in I knew game was over. We scored 5 runs on the fat man last night. Walker blew it by swinging at bad pitch at 3-1. Should have been 6-3 at that point.

Yes, it truly is difficult to watch and it's amazing how often they don't move runners and score them from 3rd with less than two outs.

I Agree with your points about RISP and defense but I believe the Mets on base percentage is hovering about .3, which would make it 24th out of 30 ML teams.

Like Yankees batters didn't blow it by swinging at bad 3-1 pitches.
And if Granderson doesn't get to that ball in the corner.......
Shoulda....coulda...woulda.
BTW, I never even heard of the guy that hit the three-run shot for the Mets. Where did HE come from ? Was that Bruce Reyes ?

BTW, I was shooting for amaze.

Like the mets have a slew of key players.
You better hope they win tonight or you may be just about out of excuses.
