Let's go METS 2016 thread ......Just get in and anything can happen!

BTW, as of 9/5/16
Mets 71 wins
Yankees 70 wins

And like I said before in this thread, even though i dont like the Yankees, I thought they did a smart move by getting rid of most of the old overpriced players and replaced them with some hungry ass players who want to prove themselves that they belong. Judge, Sanchez, and the others may become their Jeter, Bernie, Posada, Mariano of the 2020s. Good for them. Lets hope that theres a chance with Nimmo, Conforto, TJ Rivera, Gsellman, Lugo and the other Met Younguns in the near future one way or another.

Broken record, KBEE didn't Cinci beat the Cardinals two out of three?

I didn't say that a team that's just playing out the string....you know..."sellers"...can't give a team that's still in it some difficulty. I'm saying that if you are trying to win games to make the playoffs the probability of you doing so is significantly increased if your remaining games are vs. the likes of Atlanta and Cincinnati rather than Toronto and Boston.
No...it's not a sure thing...we're dealing in probabilities here.
But at least be honest. The road to the playoffs for the mets is paved mostly with the weaker teams in MLB. I still think a Thank You note to the schedule-maker is in order.

BTW, as of 9/5/16
Mets 71 wins
Yankees 70 wins
.

Some mets fans are SO predictable.
mets 71-66 .518
Yankees 70-65 .519
more than 80% of the season completed.
oh yeah....2-2 head-to-head.
Come on....haven't they pretty much had the same type of season ?

OMG, you actually used A-Rod to further your argument?Really? After you said the injuries the Met fans complain about were having bad years anyway? Your kidding right? How foolish does that make you look? A-Rod, who Joe locked in a underground basement, and was told under no circumstances was he to play and hit that 700th HR in Pinstripes. That A-Rod?
Still waiting for an answer. . . . . . . .

Lol, I always answer your questions Mr. Truth.Have you answered mine about why the Yankees are playing .400 against the National League, while the Mets are playing.539 against the American League teams? It's a small sample for sure, but the way you talk, before I looked it up I figured the Yankees would be 12-3 or 11-4 at worst, not 6-9,lol.Funny how they mentioned the Mets next series is with the Reds, and they just took 2 from the Cardinals before tonight's game. At this point, your the only one who's harping on who's left to play. I don't really give a $hit. It's all about getting in,and as a Yankee fan, you should know that. As you have mentioned a million times, the Yankees won't accept anything less, until this year when they gave up. Well at least the management, owners and fans did. Give credit to Joe and the players, they didn't. In fact, I don't hear them crying about who's left to play, just fans trying to CUSHION the blow.:sunglasses:

40 man roster and Collins uses starting pitcher to pinch run??

Stay hot ! Reynolds with a big game today. Cabrera hitting , Johnson huge off bench and what else can you say about Colon !!

Roster is exhausted from the late trip and arrival to Cincy.
Flores-LOL. Can we take the piano off his back? Two great deep balls, but gunned out by the left fielder at second then third. Reds left fielder was laughing his ass off.

Why are folks still feeding the troll?

And after losing or playing without the following for most of the year:
-Harvey
-Matz
-Wheeler
-Henderson
-deGrom
-Duda
-Walker
-Cabrera
-Wright
-Lagares
-d'Arnaud...

As frustrating it has been for most of the year and continues to be with some of the decisions TC CONTINUES to make, the Mets are finally coming around and have a chance to host the wildcard game. All they need is an invite into the playoffs, then its upnto them to either take advantage or sh** the bed.

Speaking of sh** why keep entertaining the goal post mover? It was a while when hes so damm obsessed with this thread, he was quoting himself to keep himslef revelant. Who cares with what he has to say.

And the truth is it's a very, very small sample.
Did I really have to tell you that ?
Now answer my question as to how you are so positive about the mets chances of making the playoffs and so down on the Yankees chances of doing so when 85% of the way through the season they have virtually the exact same record ?

Lets just agree that as much as you give a rats ass abouty opinions, i wipe my ass with yours. Youre the type who will say that the reason this "Mets thread" has gone to 38 pages is because of Yankee fans who posted in it. Nevermind its one or two guys over gibberish bullshit.

Since you like to quote me so damm much, guess you dont want to quote me saying that the yankees are actually headed in the right direction with their moves. You also say that im hiding from you when im probably the only one who havent put you on ignore... only because youre an idiot. But that would not help with your obsession and arguement

Back to the Mets. Good win today vs Cincinnati. Looks like St Louis will still be a game ahead of the Mets for the second WC spot as they are beating up the Pirates. However, the Giants are losing to Colorado. Hopefully the Mets will be only 2 back of SF after today.

Please....you know what the mets record would look like if they had to compete against Boston, Baltimore, and Toronto on a regular basis instead of Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Florida. And all of those injuries.....why are the mets the only team with significant injuries ?
Look...the mets were what is called "buyers". They went out and got Bruce in an effort to keep the Good Ship Metropolitan afloat and in the race for the playoffs. The Yankees were what is called "sellers". They ditched their best hitter, traded their two best relievers, dumped one of their starters, and showed A-Rod the door....all with an eye on the future of the team.
And yet right now on Sept. 1st the Yankees have the best record in New York MLB and are remaining in the race for the playoffs. Amazin'.
Funny u dont mention wash and cubs etc

And the truth is it's a very, very small sample.

I believe I told you that. Didn't need you to get permission to sign back on the computer to tell me what I already said was a small sample. As far as the Mets having a better chance at the playoffs than the Yankees, I'm thinking math wasn't your strong subject in school. Seems to me, this late in the season, being 1 game back, or being 3.5 games back is a huge difference, and having to pass one team now, or passing4 teams now, is easier, but I could be wrong with your logic.

Colon has been simply amazing for 3 years with the Mets. As more pitchers have arm problems, they must look at him in amazement I think all this pitch counts and babying arms growing up has led to this epidemic. Growing up, I pitched stick ball and Little League till my arm wanted to fall off. Next day, I'd be back pitching stick ball. I was a catcher in HS and college, and threw the ball back as hard as I could every time. I would pitch batting practice to teams I coached until my my late 40's, and now in my 60's my arm has never been an issue. Sure, I didn't pitch on the Major League level, but I believe back in the day, lifting light weights with many reps, and throwing the shit out of the ball led to stronger healthier arms.

I'm wondering if the Mets will sign him for next year. He's been the most dependable pitcher they've had last 2 years. But with everyone on the opening day rotation SHOULD be ready to go along with the 3 younger pitchers (Gsellman, Lugo, Montero, even Ynoa), Colon's time may finally run out. IMO, i would sign him.

At the very least, the Mets have some decent players to trade for a catcher, or someone else

You're getting close now. So, why would the mets have to only pass one team and the Yankees have to pass four....when they both have the same record ?
Come on.....you know the answer to this one.

We're making a playoff run, no idea what he's saying, but why feed the troll? It's great fun to be a Met fan.

Tico,
To go with this second group of young pitchers, we're probably also going to see Smith, Rosario, and cecchini at some point next year. By 2018 we may be starting an all new infield. We should be competing for the playoffs yearly going well into the next decade.

You're absolutely right. Catcher and getting DW to retire should be the two biggest issues we take care off in the offseason. Hopefully, that's after winning the WS.

No reason I can't dream.:)

Am I wrong to say that even after a month or two that I trust Lugo and/or Gsellman more than I do Matz? Maybe too much was expected from Matz and was thrusted into the playoff rotation only because he was a lefty. He had injury issues last year and this year stints on the DL has been more than average. So far Gsellman and Lugo has been CONSISTENT , which all I can ask for out of pitchers these days. Both have had rough innings ONLY because TC pressed their luck by pitching them into the 7th and got burned for it everytime until Sunday night.

Mets or shall I say the 51's clinched top 3 batting averages , Rivera beat out Nimmo today .353 to .352 and Cecchini .324. BTW Lugo had a 6 plus ERA .

If Bruce hits in more than 2/3 straight games he may finally be able relax and help mets have a solid top 4 in the lineup.

I think they make an effort to resign Colon as well. Given all the setbacks with pitchers this year I would not assume they all heal up well in the offseason and are ready to go in April.

Yes, you have to sign Colon. However, that gives you Thor, DeGrom, Harvey, Matz, Lugo, Gsellman, Montero, and Colon as SPs. You're going to have to trade at least one, maybe two, in the offseason to fill holes. We need a CF and Catcher immediately. We only have Reyes through next year, so we need to plan for 3b, as well. Some positions we fill through FA and others we fill through trades.

Sandy will have his hands full this offseason. We have the core for a perennial playoff contender. However, we need to bring in some middle of the order high ops hitters. The Wilpons' spent more than I expected this year. Hopefully, that's a trend for the future.

Gsellman, Lugo and even Reynolds as well as the continued contributions by part timers such as KJ and even D'aza and Rivera on occasion. Good to see guys stepping up and chipping in when in order to fill those gaps created by all of the injuries.
