Let's go METS 2016 thread ......Just get in and anything can happen!

Bizarre ending to the Reds-Cards game tonight. Score tied 3-3, bottom 9, Cards have runner on 1st with two out. Batter hits a shot to left which one-hops the BACK wall behind the fence, an obvious ground rule double. Umps blow the call and rule it in play, runner from first scores the winning run. Cincy manager gets the challenge signal from their replay guy and comes out to challenge. Problem is, by this time the umps had already left the field. Game over. I suspect we have not heard the last of this one.

Magic # will be 1 with a Giants loss tonight, and we will clinch tomorrow via WIN. Let alone a Giants or Cardinals loss.

Will be able to set Noah up for the WC game. Rooting for cards at this point. They're a much less fundamentally sound/potent team than San Fran. Do not want to face Mad Bum or Cueto in that game. Or have face a Bruce bochy-lead team. I prefer the Mets' chances against Carlos Martinez

Incorrect. Each team has its own magic number for elimination. Going into tonight, magic number to eliminate Cards was two, and Giants was three. Cards won, so their number stays at two. If Giants lose (at this writing tied 2-2 after four innings), their number drops to two.

For Mets to clinch tomorrow, they need:
  • A win, AND
  • A Cardinals loss OR two Giants losses (one of which could come tonight).

Fat pigs ran off field ,Reds manager couldn't find them to challenge.
-----
The way the Reds coach explained it, if this would have happened in the middle of the game, a manager could probably challenge the play well after the play is over, get it reviewed and reversed

But if it appears to be the final play of the game, he had 10 seconds to challenge the play before the umps leave, and once they leave, that is it.... The coach said he had a bad view of it from the dugout and did not know.

Once the Red coach was told it hit the back wall, it was too late.

A lot of sports commentary about how the umps should have reversed their ruling and play on, since the game was important..

What is your rotation like for the playoffs?
Wait, oh yeah.

Christ...your mets won TWO more games than the Yankees this season.
Just consider yourselves lucky that your schedule down the stretch was so "challenging".
And just a heads' up, but you won't be facing the Phillies or the Braves in the playoffs.

Was at Yankee Stadium last night with 3 buddies, "that's 3 more than a couple of guys on here have",lol, and they were great seats. Loved the stadium, and the crowd was really into the game.Yankees have a lot of players still giving 100%, and although with so much negative talk from their fans on here, it would have been great for both fan bases to see another Subway Series.Better than a 50-50 chance we'll never see another in our lifetimes.Just too many levels for both teams to get past for it to happen again. My wife works with a women from Boston, and her house is a shrine to the Red Sox.Dropped my wife off for a ladies night out once, she had me come in to show me all her BoSox stuff, and asked her why she didn't have the program from WS game #6 in plastic behind her bar like she had so many others, busting on her. We had a good laugh, after she cursed me every name in the book. Told her is there any curse they didn't teach women in Boston? Looked for something Boston to buy her in Yankee Stadium and was surprised they didn't sell anything just to make some money off of out of town fans.Walking back to the parking lot, which was down a horrendous set of stairs, and down a unlit walkway, a guy was selling Big Papi t-shirts asked him how much and he said $20. Said thanks no thanks and walked away. He came running back to us and said $5 what size,I said large, thank you very much. We tailgated in the lot, which was half full, at a game that was pretty much sold out,so I'm asking why to fans on here say there is no tailgating option for football games when Rutgers plays there? Is it because so many Yankee fans take mass transit to games, and this lot and others fill up? Who I went with said they like this lot, it's about a 10 minute walk, over the parking deck because it takes so long getting out of the deck.

Mets shouldve clinched something a long time ago if not for the WTF games that they lost. That Reds/Cardinals game should not matter to the Mets and if it did, its the Mets own fault.

That said, they have to put it in the books themselves in Philly. Dont think Philly wont be amped up for this series because they will.

The Mets would not be able to sweep Boston like the Yanks just did.
Yea, because Boston was just playing out the string, resting up, took Ortiz out after 2 at bats. Please, when their season was on the line, they crapped the bed, losing 4 in a row to Boston, lol.Yup, Mets lost 3 in a row to the Braves, so it can happen, but you shouldn't even go there, fool. Believe me, Philly will be more into this series than Boston ever was these past 3 days. Enjoy the off season buddy.

It's really amazing how they just can't stay out of our thread. So sad for them watching the Mets going further than them 2 years in a row.
I will take no solace in just making the wild card game. Delusional as I am (I am the same way about Rutgers' chance of winning against UM and tOSU), I think if Thor, Gsellman, Bart and (Lugo?) can pitch decent, with the bats coming alive, Mets can take the Cubs. If the Dodgers can take care of Washington, then Mets have a shot at the World Series. Biggest worry is having to play Washington.

If they make it, they'll only be facing one team in the "playoffs," if you can even refer to a play-in game that way. Bumgarner pitches tonight and will be ready to take the Mets down like he's done before in much bigger games.
Still, it was a rough night for the Mets with both the Giants and Cardinals gaining ground. It ain't over yet...

Uninformed, idiotic statement on Bumgarner. Two recent games in last 2 years:

May 1, 2016, 6 innings, no runs 6 hits, but the lineup included players that are not currently playing: Lagares, Wright, Walker, Flores, Plawecki, Campbell.
August 18, 2016- 5 innings, 89 pitches gave up 4 runs. Mets lost 9-7. Lineup resembles recent lineups with Reyes, T.J. Rivera, Bruce, d'Arnaud, Johnson in the lineup. No Cespedes in that game.

Really can't predict what happens in a 1 game wildcard. He's an elite and formidable pitcher, but lineup is completely different

It's really amazing how you just think of this as YOUR thread. It's about the mets ....but it's on a Rutgers board. So, some Rutgers fans who are not mets fans feel free to offer their perspective.
Perhaps you should seek out a mets board.....you know....one only for those sensitive, sensitive mets fans.

Geez....what a crybaby.
Why could you possibly think that he has no right to post his opinions about the mets in a thread on the Rutgers football board about said losers ?
If this were a thread about Tom Brady you'd be yapping about his "ruining the joy" of Brady fans ?
If this thread was about the New York Knicks you'd be crying about his "ruining the joy" of Knick fans ?
If this thread was about Bruce Springsteen you'd bitch that he was "ruining the joy" of fans of the Boss ?
Why oh why are mets fans so sensitive ?

One more time.

Amazing how you keep throwing out uninformed statements, lol. You would think, just by dumb luck, you could get one right, unreal. As Knight Shift said, his last time against the Mets wasn't exactly a slam dunk for Bumgarner. Do you happen to know what the Giants record is since the All Star break? Didn't think so.Since your either lazy or ignorant,I did a little research.Since the All Star break, those Giants your so sure will deliver your wish in eliminating the Mets, had a 27-42 record. Just for comparisons,Atlanta, you know what your Met haters Club call the worst team in the NL, have a 35-34 record over the same time, lol.Even the Phillies, you can't make this shit up, have a one game better record than the Giants over the same time period at 28-41.Those doomed Mets,38-33, hardly a runaway train, but by comparision, even a fool like you should realize the Giants are hardly a slam dunk to beat the Mets.PS. Wasington is 39-30,only 2 games better than the Mets. Clearly the only team to beat is the Cubs, the most consistent team in all of baseball, by far at 49-22.

Kind of like what the Yankees did vs Houston last year in that "play in game?"

Washington clinched the NL East last weekend and dominated the Mets this year. If you want to celebrate finishing second place, which is a huge disappointment for the Mets, go ahead.

Uninformed, idiotic statement on Bumgarner.
Madison Bumgarner has won Game 7 of the World Series and has had Hall of Fame-level success in the playoffs. The only one being "uninformed" and "idiotic" is you. There is literally not one pitcher in baseball who has a better track record pitching in big games, and certainly not Syndergaard, who can't even hold a runner on 1st base.

Stop with the facts. These mets fans are trying to hold a pep rally here. No need for facts.
You're only gonna make them hide or cry.....or both.

It is amazing how historically bad the Giants have been since the break. One of their bloggers did a whole thing on it, it was shocking. That said, if that team can somehow find a way to get to a 5-game series, they are a tough out with two aces at the top of the rotation and their postseason experience. They played four one-run games vs. the Cubs at Wrigley this year and won the series out in SF.

Strange how the two-game difference between the mets and the Nationals over the last 69 games is nothing much to mets fans here, but the two-game difference between the mets and the Yankees after 159 games is HUGE.

Im not even going to argue with the miserable people anymore because this is how its going to go:
Mets dont make it to the WC:
-HAHAHAHAHA
Mets beat the Giants in WC:
-Theyll just lose to the xxxx next round.
Mets beat the Cardinals in WC:
-Lucky they didnt face Baumgardner
Mets win WC at Citi:
-Didn't go on the road
Mets win WC on the road
-Mets so weak they had to go on the road
Mets lose division, championship, and/or world series
-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Mets win division, championship, and/or world series
-Mets didnt play xxxxx
-Mets got lucky
-Mets didnt play AL East
-Mets lucky yyyyy got tired with injuries
-Conspiracy theory to push the Mets forward
-Mets didnt beat 99 Yankees
-Mets had to get new stadium to win
-Mets cheated.

And of course they will throw out the obnoxious

27-3

Any questions?

Its the Yankees fans who keep harping on the Mets all season long. Mets fans dont give a sh** about what the Yankees been doing.
