I will use Intermat team rankings in this since they have a Dual and tourney ranking lists. I will also use wrestlestat to look at head to head and common opponent past matchups.
Intermat's Dual team rankings has Wisconsin at #9 and RU at #19. For Tourney rankings they have Wisc at #19 and RU at #13, so you can see how different things get once you switch from dual scoring to Tournament scoring.
125- RU Shane Metzler vs #15 Connor Brown, Brown by dec, Wisconsin up 3-0
133- RU #3 Nick Suriano vs unranked Jens Lantz, Suriano by Tech Fall, RU up 5-3
141- RU Peter Lipari vs #16 (Flo) Tristan Moran, Moran by dec (don't think MVB wins either) Wisc up 6-5
149- RU #2 Anthony Ashnault vs #13 (Flo) Cole Martin, Ashnault by Tech Fall, RU up 10-6
157-RU #15 John Van Brill vs Zander Wick, JVB by dec, RU up 13-6
165-RU Stephen Glasgow vs #3 Evan Wick, Wick by Major Dec, RU up 13-10
174-RU Joe Grello vs #15 (Flo) Ryan Christensen, Christensen by dec , Match tied at 13
184-RU #12 Nick Gravina vs Mason Reinhardt, Gravina by dec, RU up 16-13
197-RU Matt Correnti vs Andrew Salemme, Correnti by Maj Dec, RU up 20-13
285-RU Chris Colucci vs #9 Trent Hilger, Hilger by Maj Dec, RU 20- 17
RUTGERS wins 20-17
Notes-
125- Metzlar should keep the loss to a dec against Brown, worst case scenario is Maj Dec
133- Suriano could win anywhere from Major , TF or PIN. At home, in a close match, he knows he needs to score as much as possible in this close team match, crowd will help.
141- I think Lipari gives RU a better shot at an upset than MVB does.
149- Ashnault wrestling like he's on a scoring mission, he either wins by Tech or Pin against a pretty good opponent.
157- Borderline toss up match, JVB with the much better resume, but lately not wrestling well, his freshman opponent could surprise, but doubt it, even a chance for bonus by JVB here.
165- Assuming Glasgow wrestles, he obviously is facing a tremendous opponent in #3 Wick, but Wick only winning by Dec or MD in the past month against decent to average opponents. RU cannot afford a Forfeit or Med Forfeit here in order to win the match, so I think Glasgow toughs it out, and limits the loss to a Maj Dec. Hopefully his knee improves .
174- First true toss up, although Wisc Christenson is ranked, he only beat Grello by 2-1 last season and that was at Wisc, and Grello is slowly improving now. I still give Christenson a small dec.
184- Gravina although ranked, is still just knocking the rust off, and never has been a big bonus machine, he should win a dec here, but I anticipate a close match. Critical for Gravina to win.
197- Correnti finally coming around w 6 straight wins, and could win this anywhere from Major to TF or even PIN.
285- Colucci gets to face another very good freshman heavyweight. Hilger not close to Stevenson, but still very good, Colucci should be able to lose no worse than Major or TF at worst, but Hilger is not a big scorer, so fairly confident Colucci loses by dec or Major Dec at worst.
In my opinion 157 and 174 are the biggest toss ups, I think we split them. Should be a very entertaining match.
Again I have RU winning 20-17
