NCAA TOURNEY FIRST ROUND DISCUSSION THREAD

What was the 3 pt shooting percentage of game last night?
Games that i watched? had to have been in the 42-45% area

My eyes deceived me......
NCAA average this year from 3 was 35.0%

Day games 117-330 35.4%
Night games 114-332 34.3%

Overall 34.9%

Do the math 32 teams 662 attempts....20.7 attempts per game

We weren't very good and our shooting from the floor was atrocious for us.

We were just fair at the FT line which is our strength-----all around we were lucky.

Watching these games and comparing these teams to RU tells me we aren't even close.

We desperately need better shooters.

Yes...its about shooting and being able to hit shots when it counts. RU can keep games close and competitive but do be deceived there is another gear that the good programs have that RU does not possess yet

Your comment could have been repeated many times since 1991 and as fans we are still waiting. The 3 point shot has changed the game and both Rutgers basketball teams are behind the times.

alot of 3s hoisted yesterday...its a huge part of the game, RU will remain at the bottom of the Big 10 if they cannot recruit multiple players who can knock down 3s. Also I noticed alot of weird arcs and releases on these 3s yesterday

I watched quite a few of today's games and it was a preview of where we need to be to actually win games. We're not close now. Getting a shooter will help, but it's not the whole answer for us. Need a few guys who can score.
The other thing that stood out for every team was the way they dribble and get to the basket. Not just the guards, but everybody. They all create and adjust shots which we don't come close to doing. Defense helps, but it wouldn't be nearly enough for us. Very few teams go up and down the court 4 or 5 times without scoring. Vermont scored 11 of 13 trips in the second half to stay in the game.
At this point, can't picture us doing that in a tournament. Anyhow, it gives us an idea of how much we have to improve to be one of these teams. With our present roster, we 're more than a few years away, but this season was a pleasant surprise. Just need better players who have the abilities when they get to RU.
