**NEW STADIUM RULES THIS WEEKEND**

The differences are:

1. This change to the policy was made AFTER the tickets were sold.

2. Our stadium was constructed with a very limited number of water fountains, leaving fans with few options. At other places I've been that restrict the carrying in of bottles water fountains are more available.
#1 stuff happens, I get it.

But #2 can easily be remedied even during the season.

The problem is that our stadium is so ill-equipped to handle the demand for virtually anything. All of those other stadiums have plenty of vendors on their prosceniums (proscenia?), and a number of them even had things similar to a food court with tables and chairs to eat at while watching the game. We have a lot of catching up to do (not our fault and not a complaint, we got into the game long after the teams Mrs. Screw mentioned did), and it's going to take years. So until they can meet the demand of some of the basic needs, and hydration is perhaps the most basic, they need to figure out a way to meet that need. People passing out due to dehydration is bad policy, and setting up a lot of stands to sell water is easily accomplished.
Do we have enough water fountains? I should know this but haven't really paid attention.

This could be done in a week.

Agreed. And the communication on #2 fell short. By a lot. They should have anticipated the fan reactions, made a plan to ensure that plenty of water stations would be set up and communicated that. That would have taken care of things. Instead they send a tweet with limited info that few will see and still have the outdated info on the althletics department website.

Adding more water fountains is the answer? Sure, let's spread that hand, foot & mouth disease that's running rampant around NJ to 50,000+ people. No thanks. How about they run a competent concessions operation.

Please refrain from using the term Dr. other than for those who actually are trained and educated in the medical field...that nominclature has been overused and abused for too long...she's a teacher and nothing more...

Okay, but how do you keep running out of water then?

How does that happen?

From the Metlife website:

Carry-In Policy
Guests are welcome to carry-in the following items into MetLife Stadium:

  • Food of any kind that is contained in a clear plastic bag
  • Factory-sealed, plastic bottles of water or soft drinks that are 20 oz. or less in size
  • Still-photography cameras with a lens that is 6" or less in length not contained in a case
  • Hand-carried jackets, blankets, or other items, which will be patted down or searched
Metlife has security equipment that holds up the lines. We do not. I am surprised they allowed food but agree water in a sealed bottle should not be that big a deal. However, many point out that this is the norm for BIG Football.

Way to antagonize the fan base twice in the same week. More dumb, short-sighted decision making at the RAC.

Gotta love how they spring this on everyone the day before the game. It's total horse-bleep but they were going to do this they should have had the stones to announce in Monday or Tuesday.

Gutless.
I combined your two posts and complete agree with both.

And the change was made THE DAY BEFORE THE GAME! Hell, a lot of people are not gonna even be aware of this going into the game.

Not upstairs. There isn't even one up top.
Yep, that's a big issue for us top-deckers.

I too busy to go through that nonsense. Michigan gives free cups of water at concessions. RU should do the same, or reduce the bottled water to $2. I am not going to die, but I am supposed to consume water throughout the day. I'll down a bunch during the pre-game, and get one bottle from concessions and nurse it.
What is the annual donations from Michigan alumni vs RU Alumni? If we can match them we should then worry about this issue.

Actually in Rome I believe doctoris stood for any highly recognized teacher (similar to sensei). Medicus was the term for a physician. Since then (too lazy to look it up), M.D.s have appropriated both terms

Just don't go to this doctor. He'll just write a note saying your health is astonishingly excellent and for certain you're the healthiest Rutgers fan to ever fan for Rutgers.

My experience at MetLife is you have to bring the bottle of water to the security gate sealed and then they watch you take the cap off and throw it out.

This is SOP in every stadium I've been in, except HPSS. This shouldn't come as a surprise

After 146 years they ban water 30 hours before game time via twitter? Yeah, some people are going to be surprised.

Due to heightened security at this week’s @rfootball game, no bottles or beverage containers of any kind will be permitted into the stadium.
Just like clockwork. Yet another bureaucracy fixing it's inconsistent logic by becoming consistently illogical. It never, ever fails.

We should all prepare to be strip-searched at the gates too. [roll]

I'm more convinced this has to do with people emailing the Athletics Department complaining about why they can bring in frozen water bottles but not get a cap at the concession stands. Just don't know when to leave well enough alone.
Exactly right.

And that would make a difference how?

Not sure if sarcasm meter was supposed to be triggered.

All the folks that pack heavy to HPSS ought to try and get in Ohio Stadium.

Allowed "Water bottles that are clear, plastic and empty"

Not allowed: See the link for a long list.
All Bags (including but not limited to backpacks, fanny packs, purses, string or 'cinch' bags, messenger bags, camera bags, briefcases, grocery bags, roll bags, binocular cases, duffle bags, or any other bags) (except below)
Beverages
Containers (common examples include but are not limited to hard sided coolers, soft pack coolers, ice chests, picnic baskets, cans, heavy plastic or glass bottles, thermoses)

Yep, at OSU you can have an 8"x5" bag. The hookers I brought to the game two seasons ago were very relived.

Running out of bottled water is effing nuts. Not that hard to predict demand. Even if unrefrigerated should have plenty on hand. It don't go bad. And you are losing revenue!

Let me get this straight:

A 7th Century throwback cultist plants a few homemade bombs miles away, then they make NORMAL people pay for his actions.

Profiling is the answer!

Not to necessarily discount the serious security situation in the tri-state area, but I have yet to see someone successfully incorporate any sort of devices into see-through, factory-sealed bottles of drinking water.

There are ways to make a liter of clear liquid that would be able to take out at least a few dozen people in a crowd. Just think Breaking Bad. That's why I was surprised to find out they let people bring in unopened bottles a few weeks ago.

If a terrorist or nut was intent on bringing in a bottle or 2 of explosives all they would have to do is shove them or strap them in the crotch of their pants.

RU can't get out of its own way.

I was waiting for a ChemE (aka glorified pharmacist) to chime in w/that. I was surprised to hear we were allowed to bring in bottles too.

We're talking about approximately 0.5 liter bottles of water that are typically carried into the stadium. And how difficult is it to restore the factory seal on said bottles after modifying the liquid in some fashion? It took a matter of seconds for officers to glance at my water bottles when getting into the stadium and make sure the factory seal was intact, and I can almost guarantee that up to this point they weren't doing so for counter-terrorism reasons.

You guys are funny the country is finally figuring out the college sporting events are very soft targets with little security and if someone wanted to do some damage it could be done easily

Says a guy that will be watching on TV from the comfort of his home in suburban Dallas. If he's going to watch at all.

Stop it. Went to the Cowboys home opener a couple of weeks ago, spent $75 to park a mile from the stadium. Spent 30 minutes in security line to get in. Dropped I think $12 a beer. Had a great time. Didn't whine about parking, lines, cost of beverages, out of town scores, wifi signals, etc.
