No. 14 Rutgers Wrestling Heads to Detroit for 2022 NCAA Championships / Tournament Thread

Hey!!! Anyone notice how quiet it is on this thread? With civilized discussions and no name calling (yet!)? But watch out Pish, it's about to get ugly. Just kidding of course. Looks like a few people got some time outs on here.

It's how the board used to be, In a more civilized time. There'd be spats here or there, but not one's that would carry on for pages.

You need to take off the blue and white tinted glasses to see the whole world.
I watch as much college wrestling then anyone. So I watch all the teams
And yes we need transfer portal help, but psu wouldn't be psu this year nor would Michigan without it either.
You sure about that? Who were PSU big transfer point scorers this year? Hildenbrandt? Scored .5 this year. Berge scored a point (I don’t consider him a transfer he came out of retirement ). Max Dean has been great no doubt and has an opportunity to be a champ, that being said, we did have a freshman AA at the weight that IMO is just as talented even if Dean didn’t want to come.

Good luck to Sea Bass. Wish he never got hurt. Was really looking forward to him and Lee in finals. That being said..go get the next best thing!

My final thoughts on how RU can get next level.
#1. Need to keep the best NJ kids in state. I’m talking the elite ones..Still can’t believe they didn’t land Lewis
#2. Burroughs..need to get him involved with the program somehow. RU needs that guy everyone wants to be around
#3. Recruit scorers not state champs (I’d rather have a one time state champ that gets after it then a 4x champ that wins 1-0). Find the guys that can get to legs consistently. Guys that can score on anyone. Defense can be worked on, going out and getting scores is tougher to teach if you have guys that have always relied on D to win.
#4. Always keep an eye on the portal
#5. Step up the club guys.

Well next year hopefully Poz and Sammy are healthy and ready to go. Turley will be back. And we have some Talented newcomers like Peterson, Soldano and White to name a few. I’d hope we’d finish better than 20.

Who knows.. maybe we add a transfer or two.
I'd grab O'Malley from Drexel personally. He's way too good to be wasting his career at Drexel and needs to wrestle in a real conference.

All great points and #3 hits the nail on the head.

When I was in HS (didn’t wrestle, played football and basketball). Vinny Santaniello was the epitome of a kid that never won a state championship, but I would be all over if I’m a college coach because he could do some crazy things and score at will

Is Mickey transferring? He is from my hometown and I knew his mom way back when so I follow him pretty closely. I have not seen anything that indicates he is unhappy at Drexel or considering transferring.

I think Buxton is going to help bring in the talent. Bulsak becoming an AA is a huge testimony to RU. Also, the younger kids are having more success now too. We might not be at PSUs level, but who is? Maybe some club in Dagestan...

Off topic, but look out for Ohio State soon. They have been on a tear with recruiting and will be competing with PSU. Iowa and Michigan will be "rebuilding."

One thing that the coaches need to look at is find out what Northwestern, Nebraska and Oregon St have done. To compare ourselves with PSU right now doesn't really make sense.

I gotta admit, I'm guilty of falling for the dumbness! But, I blocked the a couple of people this morning and want to stick to wrestling.

And the guy who beat Rivera in the quarters Matthews lost his consolation semi so Rivera will get the guy from Oregon St.

There's nothing new in these that we haven't discussed on here at length for many years. Right now, we're a top 15-20 team with a chance to finish top 10 every so often. We know this. It's miles better than where we were and will continue to improve.

#1 will never happen. We need more elite kids from anywhere, not just NJ. Need to start landing some of the elite PA and NY recruits. Buxton will help. More $ will help.

#2 will also probably never happen as he's at the Pennsylvania RTC and UPenn, who has a ton more $.

#3 everyone looks for scorers not just the # of state championships, so this is no different than #1. We need more elite recruits.

#4 definitely

#5 Buxton will help but we need more $. Need to find a big donor that's willing to give $2M-$3M to really take it to the next level. SeaBass should be added as an SKWC resident athlete but we need 2 more elite resident athletes.

This Wrestling forum was basically non existing before Goodale showed up on campus...Nobody was on the Olympic Sports site talking RU Wrestling...Can you imagine how the current forum would of reacted when Rutgers only had 1 wrestler make the 2nd day of EIWA Tournament and Rutgers had zero NCAA Qualifiers the year before Goodale took over...Now a day its Great to be an RU Wrestling fan...jmo

Wick hammering Marinelli.
Yeah, Wick gave him a beating. Wick was so dumb letting off the gas those last few seconds against Griffith. But, that's why Griffith is an NCAA champ. Wrestles 100% ever single second. On a side note, I was watching the Parris vs Kerklviet match. Parris is a shadow of his former self. I know GK is great, but Parris was so dominant outside of Steveson. Looks hurt.

Can't agree more about Parris

So?? RU in 20th+ place now and you think it’s “reasonable” they approach top 10 next year while losing their 3 best wrestlers this year?
I’ll tell you I used to post on this forum more as Rutgers is my 2nd team after PSU, but when you see some of the takes on this board it’s worthless. That and some of the PSU hate and it’s ridiculous.
I see some of the better posters on this board get drowned out with just some foolish takes.
I guess you missed the part where I mentioned the potential contributions from guys like Alvarez, Turley, Janzer, Peterson, White, and perhaps even a Soldano, who all scored a combined 0 points this tournament. There’s also the possibility of Poz returning to form in addition to Olivieri and Shawver each being a year better. Also Rutgers isn’t the only team that graduates their seniors.

Maybe it’s more fun to be miserable and pessimistic about the future though. If that’s how you are then I’m glad you don’t post here anymore.

Understand..I hope RU can become a top 10 team. Just saying that based on what RU has coming back, no one should be thinking top 10. Saying “well maybe a transfer here or there will put us over the top” is wishful thinking. If a transfer or 2 does come, then reavaluate then
I clearly said “approaching the top 10” which implies the 11-15 range. If you think that’s unreasonable then so be it
