Basketball No. 24 Rutgers Basketball fends off Merrimack 74-63

Merrimack plays a 3-2 zone, not 2-3, so they have 3 guys guarding high on the perimeter. This SHOULD mean the low post is vulnerable, but it requires quick passing inside. Can’t do too much dribbling.

Also, the area around the FT has been open. Need to play that Mulcahy offense where we get the ball to somebody at the foul line who then makes quick decisions — shoot, pass out, or dribble down the lane. I like Derkack or Dylan in this role, maybe Ace since he can shoot from that spot.

Pikiell talking to Josh Pastner at the halftime.

Pastner just happens to be the former Georgia Tech coach who came in with an 11th hour money offer to grab PG Jose Alvarado when he was a Rutgers lock in Pikiell"s first year.

Its coming...Notre Dame... if they get thru Kennesaw
Would be better to have it happen before Vegas. ‘Cause you want time to build off the loss, learn and grow from it. And we won’t have that time in Vegas.

The way things are going, it looks like we might go 0-for in Vegas.

As opposed to JMIC who promptly came in and let Merrimack back in game with his matador defense. Simpson better. Deal with it.

If they aren't going to provide lock down defense, then they really have no reason to be on the court.

Note: for those that fall in love with +/-, JWill is team worst at -4 and JMike is -2.

We will win, but need to play with some more urgency on both ends. Get stops and get out an run. On offense, keep the ball moving and get it to the short corner and dunker spots like we were early. If they double it that’s when we kick it out or hit open cutters down the lane. How about a back screen for ace for a lob to open the half? Need more PJ, and less J Will this half. Tough to play J Will and Jordan against the zone, two non shooters.

Missed a lot of short shots.

We don't seem to know who should be camping at the foul line against a zone. Odd. I want to see Derkack or Harper at the foul line against a zone. Willing/good passers, can drive, good foul shooters. Unfortunately both seem to be off.

we need an odd front against the 3-2 zone. Short corners and dunker spots open and makes the zone shift and that’s when we can get easy shots

Step outside the echo chamber. Rutgers is up 7 points.

Penn State was down 47-41 at the half to Purdue Ft Wayne. They are now up 94-85 near the game end.

#23 Aggies are down 39-25 to Southern at the half.

Calm down.
I’m totally calm. It’s not about the score at the end of this game. Nobody thinks we won’t win tonight. Beating this team is meaningless.

The concern is how these games show that the team isn’t ready to play 40 minutes with the sort of intensity and focus required to win in Vegas.

Up by 10. Woo hoo.
If you aren’t watching the game, just listening to play by play, it will be hard to see what we’re concerned about. Despite the score, RU is playing really badly against a vastly weaker opponent. We have this and the next game to prep for Vegas. And we’re going the wrong direction.

WTF. Why is EO posting up??? Unreal. Someone send Pike Alabama game tape. Get away from the ball side block.

I thought the alley oop looked good and should have been an easy flush. Was it not a good pass or was that on EO?
