OT: 2024 NY Mets Season Thread

Glad the Heimlich worked today !

Need to do another Heimlich tomorrow to puke out the demons in Atlanta !

Should the Mets have to use both Severino and Megill tomorrow and do make the playoffs - who starts game 1 of wild card round?
That is a very good question. There are three options:

1) Start Manaea on three days rest - which I don't know he has ever done before.

2) Add a Syracuse pitcher to the wild card roster and give him the start. My understanding is that after the AAA season ended last Sunday, the Mets sent a few pitchers to the Port St Lucie complex to keep working out, just in case.

3) Make it a bullpen game - assuming that after tomorrow's DH, they have any bullpen left.

They pitch Sale in game 2. They hope to win game 1 without him and then rest him until the playoffs. We don't have a dominant ace so it doesn't matter if Severino starts game 1.

If Sproat is available , I wonder whether that’s too much of an ask.

If so, I actually feel it gives the Mets an advantage given both the Padres or Brewers have never seen him.

Shame Senga and or Scott or even Blackburn are not available.

Yeah Sale would be g2 only (if they lose) imho

Braves are pitching Schwellenbach in game 1. They will pitch Sale in game 2 only if they lose game 1. This is not conjecture. It's the pronouncement they've made.

I THINK (could be wrong) that the call up would have to be somebody on the 40 man, which Sproat is not.

I believe there is an exception such that you can call up a non-40 man roster player if you are replacing an injured player. Maybe Ottavino comes up with an injury all of a sudden.

Mendoza has not announced who will start Game 1 tomorrow. Obviously it will be either Severino or Megill.

That means the
mets won't face sale tomorrow unless they've already clinched. So in the end, the raiouts led to a situation where the Mets won't face Sale in a game that really matters...to them. I think that is a win in itself

Or Fried… I believe they were originally scheduled to face both of them

If the Mets split tomorrow, then they are the 6 seed and return to Milwaukee, where they will play at 5:30 Eastern time on Tuesday.

If the Mets sweep tomorrow, then they are the 5 seed and go to San Diego, where they will play at 8:30 Eastern time on Tuesday.

If the Mets get swept tomorrow, then @Tango Two will immediately open the off-season thread, and we shall speak of 2024 no further!

If they get swept tomorrow I’m going to be so so so bummed.
If there’s any team it can happen against, It’s the Braves.

We are not getting swept!

The Heimlich once again will be performed in Atlanta to ensure a win in one of the games !

Yes, I sincerely prefer to win the first game tomorrow to ease stress and anxiety etc throughout the day !

Let’s Go Mets !

Win first game to screw Atlanta either by beating them in game 2 to knock them out or forcing them to uses Sale so he is unavailable for start of playoffs.
If you win the first game do you send most of your starters back to the hotel to get them rest prior to fling to where ever they are going? I am assuming that if Atlanta wins they get locked into the 5 spot and Sale in on the way to San Diego before the first pitch

Here's one of the problems: Schwellenbach. How'd we do against him last week?

Here's another problem: Megill. Let's just say that I don't believe yet. And, even if, he's no Schwellenbach.

And then. . . . who knows.

Today is far from a gimme.

I've got a sizeable bet on the Mets to make the playoffs that i placed on March 27. I've been staring at the open bet ticket on my Fanduel app for 6 months. I got it at +200 odds.
I'm going to hammer the Braves money line for game one (mental reverse hedge in my dumb brain). I hope like hell i lose that bet.
If the Mets lose game one, which i fully expect, then i'm going to hammer the braves again in game 2 with very high + odds. I hate this.

This walking NY Mets billboard tee shirt I wore yesterday needs to come through one more time.

They have already said they are not pitching Sale if they win game 1. If Mets win game 1, you play game 2 to prepare for the playoffs. If that means sitting people and pitching your #12 pitcher, so be it.

The bullpen catcher can pitch game 2 for whichever team wins game 1. Luis Torrens threw 0.1 IP earlier this year, he should be well rested. Luis Guillorme threw an inning for the Braves, let him go in game 2.

i know it's on SNY, if you have the app? i think it's also being shown on ESPN2... double check that
Thanks. I got SNY on my Roku out here in AZ. Woo hoo.
Yeah ESPN2 has both games. MLB app mandatory for out-of-staters like me.
Wanted to avoid ESPN2 broadcast. Got ESPN NY on the Radio Box App (which, IMO, is much better than TuneIn- for some stations, RadioBox filters out the ads that TuneIn forces.

Thanks for the help! Going on a long hike and if the Mets lose game 1, I'm not sure I'm coming back! That will make my angry little fan in this thread happy. 🤣

Top 1 as expected... weak non competitive at bats.

I wish we could just skip to game 2 and hope the Braves cooperate by pitching some dud pitchers

Non-competitive ABs and these announcers is a recipe for a migraine.

From the Brewers perspective, they are also rooting for a split as they want no part of the high scoring Diamondbacks.
Right now,Arizona is working out while observing the first game. They said that they'll have a plane ready to go to Milwaukee, loading it up with the players as well as the equipment.Whether they take off or not depends on the first game winner's desire to play for the "integrity of the game."This is on Manfred. The games should have relocated to Texas as they were to Milwaukee some years back.
