And I'm not sure either should have been selected over Nimmo.I'm not sure Pete should have gotten the spot over Lindor.
I wonder if MLB wanted Alonso for the derby, him being a two-time champion, and felt this was the surest way to get him.Now he’s already there for HR derby
Now there’s zero chance he can take 3 days off and hang with family
You're right about that, but each team has to send a representative. I thought Lindor deserved it more than PeteAnd I'm not sure either should have been selected over Nimmo.
The Mets really don't have any all-stars this year IMO. What they have is a bunch of all-most stars.
One thing working against Lindor's selection is that the NL is loaded at the SS position this year. Four shortstops were selected:You're right about that, but each team has to send a representative. I thought Lindor deserved it more than Pete
Why do I see so much negative on Pete?I certainly hope he does. I don’t want the Mets to have to think about signing him. Absolute joke that he is an all star. Lindor and even Nimmo deserved it more, though no Met really deserves making it.
Except for a few, this thread is full of waaay to much whining and crying. Why do I see so much negative on Pete?
Even in a bad year, you are going to 35/100
Other years, 40+/110
He plays 1B- so, he isn’t going to break the bank. Plays every day.
Can’t speak for anyone else but to me he’s no where near worth the money he will be demanding, not a good fielder, not clutch, “all or nothing” player, strikes out and hits into DPs way too much. Why do I see so much negative on Pete?

Except maybe for last year and that whole Vogelbach stuff no? 😎 😇Except for a few, this thread is full of waaay to much whining and crying.
Even when selecting the best part of Acuna’s season, his OPS in AAA is around the average (maybe less) of what you’d see in the major leagues. It's not great for what is supposed to be a top 5 Mets prospect and another sign of how the system still has a ways to go.
That meeting was well timed and needed to be done. Lindor and especially Nimmo who I feel is the closest candidate to a team Captain were clearly the right players to lead that meeting. JD has emerged as a team leader but doesn't have the longevity those 2 have. Either way, the Mets are well placed after having stumbled out of the gate and heading for the final turn before the stretch to the regular season finish line.Several Mets articles in today's The Athletic. Will give just headlines and snippets. Paywalled.
Is it a fair question as to why Pete is not stepping up as a leader like Lindor and Nimmo?
MLB All-Star snubs at each position: Francisco Lindor, Luis Gil and more
"Had Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (who’s missed considerable time with an injury) not been voted in as the NL starter, there might have been room for Lindor, who ranks seventh in the league in fWAR. But the Cincinnati Reds’ Elly De La Cruz (as a replacement for injured Mookie Betts) was chosen by the players, and the league chose CJ Abrams as the lone representative of the Washington Nationals, which left no room for Lindor or Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers. A total of 40 players have at least 2.5 fWAR so far this season, and nine of them are shortstops (11 if you count multi-positional Willi Castro of the Minnesota Twins and Josh Smith of the Texas Rangers). Shortstop snubs were inevitable, even with seven chosen between the two rosters."
Nimmo, Lindor increase leadership roles to new levels
"At the start of the Mets’ last few trips, Nimmo and Lindor have paid for team dinners."
"When the Mets held their players-only meeting at the end of May, Lindor and Nimmo, among others, talked about more accountability and the idea of looking oneself in the mirror and asking whether one is doing everything one can to help the team. Some of Lindor’s and Nimmo’s answers overlapped. Both veterans felt they could do more as leaders and try things they hadn’t yet tried before."
When you can throw 103 mph there will always be someone willing to take a chance.I can't believe that Chapman is still pitching in the league.
Except he can't throw 103 any more. When you can throw 103 mph there will always be someone willing to take a chance.
True but he is still in the 98th percentile in the league for pitch velocity.Except he can't throw 103 any more.
According to the gun that SNY was displaying, he threw one pitch at 102 yesterday and others hit 100 or 101.Except he can't throw 103 any more.
Looked it up. 30 pitches this year of 100+ with 2 of those hitting 103+.According to the gun that SNY was displaying, he threw one pitch at 102 yesterday and others hit 100 or 101.

If he's on a pitch count, he doesn't get one more batter. That's what pitch count means. They have a plan for Scott and they aren't going to eff with it.I've been pretty happy with Mendoza, but absolutely horrific decision to take out Scott after 5 2/3 innings giving up 1 hit at 77 pitches in a 2-2 game. I realize he was on a pitch count, but give him one more batter.
Instead they bring in a no-name minor league pitcher making his big league debut, 3 batters later, Pirates have the lead. Very poor managerial decision, and i was thinking it before the minor league scrub even threw his first pitch.
Last game Scott pitched someone here criticized him for leaving Scott in one batter too long. And he gave up a 3 run homer up 5-1 in a game the team wound up losing. So basically damnded if you do and.......you know the rest.I've been pretty happy with Mendoza, but absolutely horrific decision to take out Scott after 5 2/3 innings giving up 1 hit at 77 pitches in a 2-2 game. "77 stress-free pitches".
Was listening to the radio broadcast, and they said 103 at least once, and at least 2-3 101's. Was that wrong?Except he can't throw 103 any more.
