Yes. When he warmed up in the ninth, the Mets were up three. They tacked on one more in the ninth. Jerry Blevins opinion is that once they warmed him up, that probably takes him off the table for tomorrow anyway. So you may as well bring him in.
Thanks.

4 innings of 1 run ball by the bullpen last night. The nightmare that was the bullpen earlier in the season is pretty clearly behind us.

But Butto struggled through the 9th last night and has hit a rough patch. No walks last night, but that ended a streak of 6 straight appearances of at least one walk. 9 walks in 8.1 ip during that stretch. As mentioned no walks last night but 3 hits. Including last night, last 7 appearances, that is 10 hits in his last 9.1 innings. So 19 walks+hits in his last 9.1 ip's. 5 er's during that stretch.

It's the White Sox. They are worse than a minor league team.

I think that is hyperbole. I think the worst MLB team is better than the best AAA team. Just as the worst NFL team is better that the best college team.

The best AAA team may have 10 legit major leaguers. I am not saying that the White Sox have 26 legit major leaguers, but I do believe they have more than 10.

Sort of hyperbole. Let's look at who the bullpen faced, followed by BA:
Brazobahn:
Lee: .215
Sosa .216
Vargas .170 (hit by pitch, LOL)
Amaya .143

Stanek: (other than his Seattle debacle, he has been fairly reliable in August)
Julks .228
Robert .221
Benintendi .220

Maton: (Good on Maton for taking down their murderers row!)
Vaughn .236
Sheets .241
Lee .215

Butto: (not good--Rough patch is putting it kindly)
Sosa .216 fly out
Vargas .170 (doubled, LOL))
Amaya .143 Singled, LOL)
Julks .228 (fielder's choice, Vargas score)
Robert .221 (singled, LOL)
Benintendi .220 (Ground out)

One thing about last night's game. Mendoza has been accused on this board as being formulaic and having no sense of the game. Rightly or wrongly, he disproved that last night.

In the ninth, Mendoza had lefty Danny Young up, ostensibly to pitch to the lefty Benetiendi if it got that far, which it did. To the amazement of Gary Cohen and me, he let Butto pitch to Benetiendi, and as we know it worked out.

In the post game interview, Mendoza pretty much admitted it was a gut decision. He thought Butto was throwing well, even though he was being hit.

7-3 tough road trip, We’d all have signed for that. Let’s go Phillies tonight!

A road sweep is always nice. Not taking anything away from the Mets becaue we all know it’s very difficult to sweep a road series, but that White Sox lineup has the be the worst I remember from any team. Their pitching is decent but I doubt that lineup would have a winning record in AAA.

Whew! It wasn't easy all weekend but mission accomplished. Thank God for pitching today because the offense largely mailed it in. Let's Go Phils. Lol
Did you expect that sweeping a major league team - ANY major league team - would be easy?

Cubs right behind, coming on strong.
Cubs have won 9 of 10. In that 10 game stretch, they have scored 94 runs. Over 9 runs per game.

If they can sustain that pace, then they pass us, and then they pass the Braves, and they make the playoffs. Nothing to do but tip your cap.

Fortunately, they can't.

OK this is the Brandon Sproat we were waiting to see: 5.1 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 6 K's.
