OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

Actually- looking at it- you are right- while Stanton is in the +35 HR he is only about 90 RBI- apologize for trying to be positive. You are a serious nutcase.
You say I’m a Met fan trying to throw garbage but it looks like you sling the garbage much more than I do.
If I was a Yankee fan- would you actually be able to have a conversation? If I posted the same things? You are just a weird dude.
Look in the mirror clown. You will see a Met fan not a Yankee fan. You try to hide it but your underlying posts are all about something bad.
And if you seriously think that Stanton is a top player in baseball today you know nothing about baseball. Stanton is the 12th highest salary in baseball and he can't play the field or even run. And you are not a Yankee fan and like all Mets fan in the end you would just ruin the conversation, it's just what Mets fans do.

just a baseball fan my friend...Was really just pointing out that Stanton has actually been helping the team more than hurting it this year which has also helped with the great start the Yankees are having. That was the part of the conversation I was trying to give. not derail anything. If Stanton having one of his better years for the Yankees is not a part of the conversation, then I don't know what to tell you.
You get too hung up on what team a baseball fan follows. I am not like you where you think everyone is only allowed to talk about a single team. Geez

Back to the first place Yankees. Best record in the American League, second best in baseball. Pitching keeps surprising, still without Cole. Team batting average is .255 last year .227. Slugging, OPS etc are all improved but strike outs are still high. Need to see it keep going. Soto has been a great addition, Judge has rebounded. Lots of positives. Biggest plus is entertaining baseball.

Saying he is playing like he is on a contract year is just stupid. Plus I already said how much improved he was before you had to chime in. Of course you had to bring up the elephant in the room, his bloated contract.

One of the best things about this team is that they are fun to watch. They aren't overly serious. Adding Verdugo/Soto has helped the personality of the team as much as their talent on the field.

Yeah...I sorta got that he did that too.

Was at Somerset today with DJ and Kahnle. Won’t comment on DJ because Portland had no control pitching today so three easy walks.

But Kahnle made Portland look silly. Will be a good addition if he can carry that up this week. Was so easy had to head back to the pen after the inning to get his work in.

That's is his M.O. Clever but he overplayed his hand a few years ago made me realize when he's not "just a guy who wants to talk about baseball". He did it last year in a Phillies thread. You could tell he hates their current success.

Any of the young kids impressed you? Great day for baseball after this miserable spring!

Portland’s pitching start to finish was just awful with control (10 BB, 2 balks, HBP and 2 WP). At one point Somerset had 7 runs on 3 hits. So nothing on the hitting side.

First time seeing Vrieling pitch. He looked good and was cruising; maybe one hard hit ball in his 5+. While Kahnle was not the next pitcher, I suspect he was only pulled due to pre planning to get him in.

Are you just here to post anytime something to do with the Yankees doesn’t go well? I mean, while your specific comments aren’t wrong in the context of whatever is happening now, it’s always so negative. It’s a long season — so far this one is going pretty well. Things happen in every game that are frustrating and good things happen too. Being balanced is ok.
My two biggest complaints with this team have been the same for the last 2-3 years...Gleyber plays like he doesn't give a shit...lazy, lazy on defense and can't get guys in from 3rd with less than 2 outs.
And you need a strikeout guy as a closer. Can't continually "pitch to contact" and be effective all season.

BTW...been a NYY fan for 60 years.

His luck actually did run out, as he gave up a dribbler up the third base line, another bloop single, and most unfortunately...a grounder to Gleyber. He wasn't sharp though.
Let's see how he does next time out.

I was surprised when they first went to the bullpen and brought in a guy I had never heard of.
The bullpen isn't good right now.
And I don't care what the stats say...eyeballs say differently.

Hopefully Kahnle helps, they trade for a legit closer and make Holmes an 8th inning guy.

Can somebody explain to me why Boone continues to use Stanton as a pinch hitter option? The guys is 4 for 43 with 21 Ks in his career. Might as well send him up to lay a sac bunt down... if he could run. Neither has a good chance of producing something positive.

Cashman thinking he can survive, and thrive, with these journeyman relievers off the scrap heap, might be pressing his luck.

Well, to his credit- Yankees bullpen has been one of the best for so many years, I don’t even know where to draw the line.
You can bust on Cashman for many things in his career but bullpen is not one of them.

Happily admit I didn't expect starting pitching was going to be the strength of the early season.
I expected him to make the rotation this season, but not that he would be as dominant as he's been so far.

Fun game so far against the Padres:

Soto = 423 feet
Judge = 409 feet
Stanton = 417 feet

Check out this starting rotation:
Gil........6-1 ERA 2.11
Schmidt.. 5-2 ERA 2.59
Rodon...6-2 ERA 2.95
Stroman..3-2 ERA 3.05
Cortes....3-4 ERA 3.29
And last year's Cy Young winner will be back in the rotation soon enough.

Wasn't Cortes consider the ace while Cole was sidelined? Amazing stats from the starting rotation.

Did someone throw up on all the Padres uniforms last night lol Jeez they were ugly. Haven't seen one decent City Connect uniforms so far this year

Who is out of the rotation when Cole returns? I hope not Gil.

I'm guessing 6 man rotation when he initially comes back. Gil is on an innings limit coming back from Tommy John surgery. So longer term I could see them pulling him to save for playoffs.

Gil is halfway to 100 innings already. I think he will be a bullpen piece for the playoffs. I'm not saying that's the right move, I'm just saying that's what I think they'll do.

They are definitely going to do something though.

Is everybody else preparing for Soto to not be here next year? I know I am after Hal's remarks. Even if they spend big to retain him, his declaration not to spend 300 million on annual payroll means we won't be able to build around him and have to just rely on kids and vets.

I hope I'm wrong.

Hal is a sissy. Poppa George would be very disappointed.

This will depend on how he holds out in the middle and latter part of the season- if he is still starting and dominating- he will be doing the same in the playoffs.

You may see the 6 man for a while as even Cole will need to ease back in- but if starting stays this way- you will be back to 5 man and one of the guys will be in the BP- It won't be Cortes, Rodon or Cole.
