OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

Who would have thought that Yankees fans would be so excited at this point in the season with the imminent return of Stanton and Schmidt ?

Not every player needs to be struck out. If the defense player average Yanks win the game. You are a one minded skipping record. We get it, you want perfect closers who strike out the side on 9 pitches.
No, but consistently pitching to contact leads to a whole host of run scoring possibilities.

He's a setup guy(8th inning) pitcher.

Cole delivers to get the second half of the season off to a good start.
Volpe gets the big hit...bases clearing double.
LeMahieu starting to hear it from the fans.

The fate of the season comes down to starting pitching. If they can repeat the first 2 months down the stretch and in the playoffs, we have a good shot. Getting a solid infielder for the playoffs is important as well.

Those 8/9 hitters in the NYY lineup will put the fear of God in any opposing pitcher!

I think the Cubs/Toronto/White Sox/Tigers are "sellers" at the deadline.
All have some potential help that Cashman could use.

And this is not a good starting pitching performance....
Outside of Judge, Soto, Volpe, Cole, Gil, and maybe Rice...just a dogshit team.

So many holes that I don't think you can add enough talent to make a legit run this season.
This team has "losing the first WC game/series" written all over it.

Congrats Cashman!

Anyone catch what the crowd was chanting during today's debacle ?
I know they eventually gave LeMahieu some well deserved Bronx cheers. He's the least productive Yankee right now, but he has plenty of company.

Announcers were saying Verdugo has the worst batting stats in MLB over the last month or so.

I believe it. But what's sad is he isn't even close to being the weakest link right now.

Every time I see LeMahieu come up to bat I keep thinking how appropriate the term "washed up" is.
And it's also amazing how much faster he looked running the bases when Stanton was in the lineup.

The Yankees are pitching their two starters against the Mets this week and against the Phillies next week, while the Red Sox get their lesser lights this weekend. This could be a repeat of 1978.

Based on what I've seen over the last month and a half...barring significant changes....the Bosux will catch and pass the Yankees soon enough. It pains me to say it, but I don't see this team making the playoffs. Too much dead weight.

Absolute dogshit batting order outside Judge/Soto.

Rodon going Monday afternoon vs. the Rays, who have hit eight home runs over the last two games..
Good times.

It is telling that the same issues that have plagued the Yankees in prior years have shown back up again this year after the nice start. One or two legit superstars and a reliable starter or two, along with a bunch of well-below average guys who just can’t get it done. The current blueprint just ain’t working, and it’s plain as day to see.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team limp into the playoffs, but they’re going nowhere.

Unreal game today. DJ hit a Home Run!!!
Which is really funny as in his first at bat the only two categories the showed on the screen was Avg (.171) and RBI (11). They eliminated the HR from his stat line. Too funny, well he showed them!!
Rodon looked great. The Yankees first win in his last 8 starts.
Soto with 1 bomb and one Lazer!

Let's hope that Gil can match his last outing tonight.
And that some of the below-league-average-batting guys can produce some offense.
Mets are starting lefties vs. the Yankees today and tomorrow.

No one behind Judge. ..walked 4X with no consequences.
Just horrible lineup.
The lineup was a joke. The lead-off guy and the clean-up guy aren't even major league hitters.
They're righthanded batters...but they can't hit. I should have told Boone that I'm a right-handed batter too.
Put me in, coach.
Sad what they're doing to Judge.

The announcer (Michel Kay) says they need Stanton to save the day.

If I'm reading the stats correctly, Davis, the guy hitting behind Judge, is hitless in July!

Impressive. And some people think Boone doesn't know what he's doing?

I believe he only played a few games this month. It's usually someone else.

That is true and thus helps put his lack of production in perspective.
But, if he had shown any ability at all he would have been in the lineup more often.
The team is desperate for offense...and he provides zero.
Who would ever be stupid enough to have him batting fourth, behind Judge ? Guess what happened ?

LaMahieu is no longer a guaranteed out every time he bats, he's a guaranteed two outs if there's a runner on first and less than 2 outs.

How can you guys even watch this crap team right now? I admire you for sticking with it, but I have better things to do.

Well, I never watch them live, I turn on the recording at least 90 minutres after the start.
Fast forward the commercials and any break in the action. I do the same for NY Giants, and Knicks.

His defense is slipping as well.
And we've got two more years of this crap ?

I'd like to think the Yanks are buyers at the trade deadline, but not sure they have many, if any, bargaining chips at this point. Might just be best to give the rooks some big league experience and play out the season. Hard to see Soto coming back next year with the money they need to expend overturning the entire roster. Thanks Cashman...

I think at some point they have to reset, dump the dead wood and start over. Clearly, this rebuilding on the fly isn't working. I'm not saying they shouldn't be buyers at the deadline, but at some point they need to prioritize youth and give them a chance to play through their growing pains. During this time, they should can Cash, Boone and pretty much every decision maker to start a new era. They have so much dead wood on this roster and there's no reason that kids can't be playing to give them a shot. If it means Soto leaves, so be it. They just got destroyed by the Mets, who ditched their old pitchers last year and they seem to be thriving without them.

For the fellow old-timers here, this current team reminds me a ton of the 80's version of Yanks with Judge playing the part of Dave Winfield. Despite being a five-tool hall-of-famer, Big Dave only saw the playoffs one single season in his time in the Bronx. It's no surprise that the Yankees success in the following decades from '95 onward was largely based upon youth brought up through their farm system.

Three games in Boston, then three games in Philadelphia...the way this team is playing ?
Damn hard to be optimistic.
