OT - After the Feb snow bust, is winter over?

I'm looking forward to spring, summer and fall. Do I think winter is over, probably not. I start feeling confident about winter being over around mid-April. What's funny is when I ask a similar question to my buddy who lives outside Atlanta, he says by the second week of March they're getting 65-78 degree days consistently. Can't wait for retirement.

Forecast is for snow Friday, and it could be significant. The Scarlet Nation jinx will likely be in effect.

Was just reading the same, possible snow Friday into Saturday. Still a ways off though, I'm sure that will change 100 times. Either way, going to enjoy the 60 degree day today!

Where's #. Ever since that non event after the blizzard he is sleeping at the wheel.

We are at the point of winter where historical temps start to trend up. Pair that with the warm winter and I think we are home free.

Even if we get an inch or two overnight, it's going to be close to 50 and sunny over the weekend so everything will be melted by noon.

Remember 2003?It was fairly warm in March(I was sweating at a Support the Troops Rally in Times Square),then the Yankees Opening Day was snowed out.Three weeks later on the 23rd,most areas had a few more inches fall, which mostly melted away by late afternoon. In 1967,there was a pretty good storm on St.Patrick's Day at the end of a very mild winter.

You never know. March comes in like a Lion and leaves like a Lamb.

snow lovers better hope models switch from their non snow solutions because its supposed to get in a warmer pattern after the 2nd week in March which mean snow chances will be extremely thin as we head toward April

Huh? After the blizzard, I started a thread saying we'd soon change to a cold pattern for 1-2 weeks, including many chances for snow and we got 3-5" of snow in a week for most of NJ and the coldest weather in most of the area since 1994. And then I had a thread on last week's storm, which your brother accused me of "sleeping on" when I didn't post on it (or anything else) for about 10 hours, because I was busy at work and then was at a family event.

With regard to March, it's just dumb to ignore climatology, which says this area would normally get 4-5" of snow in March - March is generally just as snowy as December. And after our warm-up through Wednesday is over, every day from Thursday through Sunday looks to be colder than normal, with some accumulating snow possible on Friday, although the models are ranging from a major snowfall to a complete miss out to sea. It does appear it will be getting warmer for next week. Nor surprising in a recored El Nino year, featuring what should be the 2nd warmest winter (Dec-Feb) ever in these parts The surprise is that we have over 30" of snow for many locations in NJ/NYC Metro.

I've seen prediction for everything from a trace to 3"-5" for Friday in the past 24 hours. You never seem to know in March. Things tend to go from one extreme to another.

I remember having my golf team's first two matches in April postponed my Jr year of HS by a snow storm on Mar 31 or Apr 1.

It destroyed my one shot at glory as I was kicked off the team not too long after that.

But Decaprio said at the Oscars that global warming is real, and bad, and we have to do something about it NOW. They had to go all the way to Alaska to film The Revenant in the snow. (awuuh)To see what the character went through in that weather, makes sensible New Jersyans glad there is global warming.

Are we really a FB school? Maybe OT on a FB board but i've never seen so little FB talked on any board but ours...Its not complaining..i actually like some of these OT threads just wondering is it in our DNA? LOL..

Dan Zarrow 101.5FM.... Snow Thursday night ending mid day Friday with accumulations of up to an inch on grassy and cold surfaces (sidewalks overpasses exit ramps). Stay tuned

My daughter was born April4 in 1982. We had 8 inches of snow the next day, and it stuck around for a while. I hope winter is over, but you never know.

The 1982 storm was on April 6th.However 82' was an extremely cold winter with several days below zero.

This winter overall was a bust. Didn't get a single day of skiing in. Hopefully spring will be nice and long before the nasty summer swamp-jungle funk sets in.

As I told bac on the other thread, Zarrow is an idiot if he said that. If we get 1-2" worth of snow during the night time hours (which is still a big if) from Thurs evening through Friday morning it will accumulate on all surfaces, with temps in the mid/upper 20s. Snow will only have difficulty accumulating after the sun is up a little bit in the sky, after 8 am or so, due to the higher March sun angle and indirect sunlight.

Actually, they tried to film it all in Canada, but couldn't find snow late in the filming... so they ended up having to move production to the southern tip of Argentina to film the end.

Per Hollywood Reporter last year:
"While the plan was to film DiCaprio's trek entirely in Canada, the weather did not cooperate, so the filmmakers now are headed to a location at the tip of Argentina in quest of snow."

All I read, was that this was going to be the most sever winter in many years.
I don't think the forcasting is any better than the 1950's.

Show your work. Most seasonal forecasts were for a normal to warmer than normal winter, due to the raging El Nino already in place this summer/fall and expected to continue through the winter, as it has. This is officially the 2nd warmest meteorological winter (Dec/Jan/Feb) on record for NYC, although it's the first top 5 warmest winter with more snow than normal (most had <10" and there's 34" so far in Central Park this year, well above the long-term average of 28").
