There have been various threads before, but I can't find them right now.

1.) Can somebody remind me what they suggest for a cost-effective, comfortable mattress? I know recommendations are all over the board, in terms of price, where to buy it, online vs. in-store, etc, but I remember that there were some good suggestions.

2.) I live in South Jersey, closer to Philly. If I'm looking for an entire bedroom set to replace my old stuff, would it be best to go to a place like Raymour? Can you get quality stuff from a place like Bob's? Should I head up to Lancaster and check out the Amish? Suggestions?

And ... back to Rutgers football. Beat Wazzu!

Sleep on a giant slab of London broil. It will start out tough, but after 10 years it should soften up a little. Sleep with the grain.

Ask the guy at the register of the best pizza place in new jersey. He knows mattresses (and pizza!)

Obviously these are very personal choices and highly subjective. My wife and I could afford a nice bedroom set but we prefer to put the money to use in other areas so we bought a mattress we really loved that was on the more expensive side (Serta iComfort series), found a headboard/footboard combo that we liked at the mattress store and then furnished the rest of the room (two dressers and two nightstands) with Ikea furniture. Initially I hadn't even thought about Ikea but friends of ours swore by them. When they moved, I helped them put the Ikea furniture together and thought it was good enough quality, especially for the price.

The long and short of it is we have a really nice, comfortable mattress (I'd also suggest splurging on a memory foam pillow) and surrounding furniture that looks nice but didn't break the bank. We're happy with how our bedroom turned out. Good luck!

PS: almost forgot (the other thread reminded me), ALWAYS haggle when you're buying a mattress and you can usually haggle when buying furniture (although not Ikea).

a lot has to do with your own body.

i only weigh 140 lb and most mattresses will work for me because... physics.

go to your local library, go to the reference section and look in the consumer reports index, they did an article on this that was good

I don't know what I tried searching for, but thanks for the link, TangoTwo. That's one of the 2-3 threads I was looking for. I think I'm buying a new guest mattress, and an entire new bedroom set for myself inc. mattress. Probably going to cost 2-3K, but definitely a necessary purchase.

My Sealy mattress bought at Costco is being delivered this week. Queen with box spring. $618 all in. Took a test drive in the store. $$$$
