OT - Best non-RU sporting event you attended

1995 - New Jersey Devils - Game 4 - Cup Presentation
1998 - David Wells Perfect Game - Sat in the Bleachers
2000 - ALCS Game 6 - Yankees vs. Mariners - David Justice takes Arthur Rhodes Yard for a 3 run Home Run. I remember feeling the stadium physically shake like there was an earthquake.
2000 - Game One of the Subway Series - Or to true Yankees fan simply known as the Vizcaino game. I had partial Season tickets this year in the bleachers with my cousin, we went to game one and sold game 2 for $850.00 a piece which essentially paid for the entire years worth of tickets.
2003 - New Jersey Devils - Game 7 - Cup Presentation.
I was at the David Justice game as well. Never felt the stadium shake like it did that night.

I should add David Cone's perfect game on Yogi Berra day.

Jiggs, before you guys won, when someone was introduced to my dad as a Sox fan, he'd reply "sorry about that"

I was also at the Rams-Giants playoff game. I didn't mind the ending, I've never been a Giants fan. In my memory, Flipper just kept running right into the tunnel when he scored the winning TD.

For me, the greatest was the 1996 Olympic men's volleyball finals and awards ceremony. The Netherlands beat Italy 3-2. Netherlands had a great offensive team with many big hitters, while Italy was a great defensive team that could dig like crazy. Game five went to 17-15. A quick search online for some of the scores shows that in 1999, Dutch TV viewers named this the "sporting moment of the 20th century".

Also, just before the gold match, Yugoslavia beat Russia for the bronze medal. During the awards ceremony, they gave a medal for the Yugoslavia captain who flew home during the tournament to be with his son, who had just died from a brain tumor. Such an emotional moment.

1997 Masters when Tiger Woods won his first Masters while annihilating the field.

I've been blessed and have had the opportunity many great sporting events. Among the best were:
-12/14/58- saw Pat Summerall kick the winning FG in the snow and ice to beat Cleveland and put Giants in playoffs where they beat the Browns the following week.
-5/30/62- was at the Polo Grounds to see Dodgers make first return to NY and play doubleheader vs. Mets. Koufax pitched game 1 vs. Jay Hook and Johnny Podres started Game 2 against Bob Miller. Mets turned a triple play in Game 2. Ex-Dodger great Gil Hodges played for the Mets.
12/x/64- at the old MSG to see Holiday Festival doubleheader: Princeton (Bradley) beat Syracuse (BIng) and Michigan (Russell) beat Manhattan
-1/1/72- saw Johnny Rodgers lead #1 Nebraska over #2 Alabama in Orange Bowl 38-6
-5/19/73- was on the rail at Pimlico to witness Secretariat blaze to victory in the Preakness
-8/11/84- witnessed Carl Lewis run anchor in the 4x100 relay at the 1984 Olympics in LA to win 4th gold medal of the games and stayed for impressive closing ceremonies
-1/24/87- saw an almost perfect Phil Simms lead Giants over Denver in Super Bowl XXI at the Rose Bowl
-1/21/91- in Tampa to see and hear Whitney Houston's shattering National Anthem performance and watch Scott Norwood's FG go wide right; Giants win Super Bowl XXV
-6/18/93- saw John Daly become the first golfer ever to reach the green at the 630 yd 17th hole in two strokes at the US Open at Baltusrol
-5/24/95- saw Mark Messier's hat trick in Game 6 of series vs. Devils at the Meadowlands in the game Messier guaranteed victory
-4/1/96- saw Kentucky, coached by Rick Pitino, beat Syracuse in championship of Final Four held at Continental Airlines Arena
-6/6/98- saw Victory Gallop nose out Real Quiet in the Belmont Stakes to deny BobBaffert the Triple Crown; a steward's inquiry delayed the final result for what seemed an eternity
-1/3/02- saw #1 Miami crush Nebraska in BCS championship game at Rose Bowl 37-14
-10/15/05- saw Chad Henne complete pass to Mario Manningham on last play of the game in the Big House which ruined Penn State's perfect season
-11/7/09- was at Santa Anita to see Zenyatta beat the boys to become first female horse to win Breeders Cup Classic

I've also been fortunate enough to attend the US Open at Shinnecock, a USC-Michigan Rose Bowl, a few NCAA regional finals tournament games, two other Belmont Stakes races, a SF Giants-LA Angels World Series game, finals of Beanpot hockey tournament, and much more.

Ironically, perhaps the most "perfect" sporting event that I had a ticket for was Game 6 of the 1956 World Series when Don Larsen broke my 12 year old Brooklyn Dodger heart, but I didn't go because my Mom made my father get rid of the tickets because he didn't have enough tickets to also take my brother with us.

Hope I live long enough to attend a Rose Bowl game with RU as a participant.

My Dad was at three of those:

The Kick in the Snow
XXV (we were sitting surrounded by Bills fans)
US Open at Baltusrol (RU fraternity brother worked at Echo Lake and got us in)

He would have been at the Phil Simms game but was paying for three college tuitions at the time.
