I started listening to podcasts about 6 months ago when I just couldn't handle sports talk radio or any other talk radio anymore. There are an incredible amount of well made and interesting ones. Here are some of my favorites, but they mostly just come from the iTunes top list. Am I missing any really good ones that are under the radar a little?

Dan Carlin (both hardcore history and common sense)
Freakonomics
Radio lab
Stuff you should know
American life
Star talk
Smart people
Serial
Planet money

Radio Lab is the best show out there, IMO.

The one I vote for as best and dumbest at the same time: Shut Up Weirdo, on WFMU (91.1), Fridays at 6pm (original time). Really funny to listen to.

A couple of standouts for me:

Bill Burr Monday Morning Podcast
Comedy Bang Bang
Sword and Scale (true crime stories)
Welcome to Night Vale (serial about a bizarre town and its inhabitants)
Lore (folktales)

If you like TV recap podcasts, the Bald Move podcasts are the best, IMO, by far. Some current shows they cover are The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, The Americans, and in the past covered Mad Men, Justified, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, and will cover movies from time to time.

The Memory Palace - short non-fiction stories
Hardcore History - just check it out
WTF - interesting interviews, mainly actors, comedians
You Must Remember This - about old Hollywood

I listen to a ton of podcasts. Here are some that haven't been mentioned yet. Mostly trivia/history stuff

My History Can Beat Up Your Politics
Ask Me Another
Backstory
Good Job, Brain!
How to Do Everything
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me

College football:
Solid Verbal
Shutdown Fullcast

My favorite podcast app is easily Overcast. It has a feature called "smart speed" where it speeds up dead air to save time. It's funny on the trivia podcasts since it sounds like the people are answering without thinking.

Second Hardcore History. If you're into food/cooking Good Food from KCRW in LA is good, used to be great.

I listen to Barbell Shrugged and Mark Bells Powercast These are great lifting podcasts also Joe Rogan Experience and Dave Ramsey Show

The Dan Patrick Show
Joe Rogan Experience
Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast
Star Talk Radio
And a new one that just started recently: Jocko Willink Podcast

Dan Carlin rocks. Serial is also excellent.

If you like history, check out "The History of Rome" and "Revolutions". Its the same podcaster, named Mike, just don't know his last name.

If you like photography, check out "This Week in Photo".

Second season of serial is pretty weak. NPR making Bowe Bergdahl out to be a sympathetic character is laughable.

The Northern Stand - all the best of NRL with a focus on the North Queensland Cowboys. They have some guy from New Brunswick on every week.

Wow some of you must have a lot of time on your hands - always listen to PTI podcast (which is basically the TV show) and am about 3 months behind on This American Life. Love Ted Talks too - will check out Hardcore History as several have recommeneded here.

How to Do Everything
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me

And for soccer fans:
Men in Blazers

Anybody have any new recommendations? I started listening to:

Revisionist History
Adam Ruins Everything

Barstool Sports - Pardon My Take. Hilarious Satire/Sports talk that likes to make fun of the sports talk/hot takes (ala Pardon the Interruption and First TAke) with huge sports guests all the time. Name a Top podcast of 2016. Averages over 500K listeners an episode.

Monday Wednesday Fridays.

Other than TOS friday morning podcast during season I've never listened to any other. My question is do you download an app to listen to them all OR have to search one individually , save it to favorites and then listen. Or another way? Thanks, I'm off for rest of the month so have some free time.

I use an app called Overcast. When I find a podcast I like I subscribe to it and it downloads onto my phone. There's also one called Stitcher but I prefer Overcast.

I listen to them at 1.5 speed since it doesn't hurt quality much (except for songs) and it allows me to listen to more. Overcast also has a setting that takes out dead air & pauses which saves time too. It's funny listening to a trivia show in this setting. The contestants rattle off answers as soon as the question is asked.

Ive been listing through Google Music app. You have the option to download or just stream.

I think most apple products just come with the Podcast app already there, so I just subscribe to them through that and they download automatically. Not sure how this app compares to the others though.

Listen to Marketplace a lot now.
More Perfect (by Radio Lab) on the Supreme Court was really good and I think they are making more soon.
Outside Podcast can be good at times too. Kind of hot or miss.

since this seems to have come back around i'll add 2 more:

npr tiny desk concerts
the rights to ricky sanchez (sixers fans, philly fans or hardcore NBA fans)

Might be an underrated sports podcast is Ian Edwards Soccer Comic Rant. He goes over the PL as if me and my friends are talking, which makes me understand look forward to the games a lot more and who are the player.
