Lately my directv has been incredibly slow to respond to the remote. I tried rebooting, changing the batteries, looked online and didn't find anything that would help. I called them and they tried to tell me thats just the way the system works. It was not always the case though, its just happened in the last few months. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the system to turn on and doesn't always respond to the remote, or it takes 30-60 seconds to respond.

Anyone else have this issue and were you able to resolve it?

I've had DirecTV for a long time, since the beginning. Never had any serious issues but at times the box needs to be replaced. They don't last forever. Call them and say the box isn't responding correctly. Don't let them charge you for a new one if you paid for that one.

It's the dvr. Disk goes bad and it gets slow. You need a replacement. They will drag you thru 90 mins of tech support first before concluding that.

Dbstalk.com is an excellent source for DirecTV advice. I found that site very helpful before I dumped DirecTV for sucking so much.

I was on the phone with them for 45 minutes with the same issue. Plus my list of shows from the DVR was blank. Was wondering if it happened when AT&T got involved.

mine is because I have worn out several of the remote buttons. I now have 2 of 4 remotes not working well and I am not interested in having to buy a new one so I can pay them a buck thirty each month.

What I have noticed is that the 99% signal that used to work thru most every storm now craps out 99% of the time from just a modest storm.

With mine, when the DVR gets to filled with shows (I.e. under 10% storage space left) things tend to slow down. If I clear out some space it improves.

This happened to me Sunday at 4 PM as I was trying to watch the ending of 3 NFL games at the same time. Not a good time for a slow remote

Maybe instead of posting on a college football forum, try posting on the DirecTV forum:

I have found it very helpful for DirecTV issues.

Used to happen to me when I had DirectTV too. Nothing but a new box fixed it. Really sucked for flipping between channels during a commercial break. And if two interesting games were on at the same time, it damn near made me violent.

I've experienced this as well. They tell me that it's normal. I have the same problem even after receiving a new DVR.

Do you like DirectTV? I'm thinking of getting it (not thrilled about the hardware on my house) instead of my UVerse (which I love btw but it's too expensive).

Directv is great when you first get it.. super cheap.

Then, the rebates start expiring and your bill goes up and up and up

and then you call and complain and it goes down a litttttle bit.

then up even higher than before.

When it rains moderately hard, the service goes out, same with snow and wind.

I can not wait for my contract with them to end. So sick of having to call and complain about the prices.

yup - that slow response time is the biggest PITA in my opinion.

reboot and change the batteries often helps - but not always. Be sure to use brand new (and I mean right from the store batteries)
make sure there's nothing blocking signal (I find moving the DVR to the very edge of the shelf it's on can help - since the IR is near bottom of the unit. I've bought new remotes as well - that helps for a while. and ultimately replacing the DVR (yet another cost - I have the "maintenance plan for $5 a month - and get a new receiver once every 2 years).

I am down to about 15%, I usually have the good RU games on DVR to watch in the winter again but so far this year I have deleted all but the Indiana game. My daughter has about 200+ episodes of South Park on there too so that probably doesn't help

This nails it. I want to go off the grid when my contract expires and subscribe to Netflix, but my wife is obsessed with reality TV.

funny, my wife wants to go the Netflix route and I haven't been able to pull the trigger yet (and NOT because of reality TV lol)

Who would know about such things as a Directv forum?
Tango tends to be a douche about these things. Since he has no friends he will try to make you look foolish about anything and everything. He doesn't understand that most on here are good people willing to help out another poster with a non football related issue. Some great advise has been handed out on here but zero from him. Just hatred. Goes back to the loss of rating threads...his meaning in life. Sadly.

BTW I rate this thread *****

If you have an HR34, this is a known problem. I recently swapped out my HR34 for the HR44 and no longer have any issues. I have the protection plan so that helped.

I have an HR23. That explains it. The problem is I have a bunch of stuff on my DVR and you can't transfer it to a new DVR.
