OT: Electric vehicles

Someone is still having trouble reading. Yikes
Clearly you're backtracking, after being challenged on it you went from saying it "will" happen to saying it "could" happen, so at least you don't actually believe some of your own nonsense.

Holy irony, Batman. Could you possibly be any more hypocritical?

You just posted marketing hype posing as objective analysis of a WSJ article and you're accusing another poster of spreading lies and misinformation?

The WSJ article was factually incorrect. I'm sure you fact checked the route and charging stops. Why would a journalist intentionally drive out of her way to avoid fast charging?

Go ahead with another pointless rant avoiding the topic...

A battery shortage now too
Who could have guessed
Even Musk said US not ready for the kind of push the politicians are driving (CCP's USA puppets)

No, not "now". There always has, and for the next few decades will be a battery shortage. This isn't news for those paying attention, and doesn't mean we throw up our hands and abandon a sustainable energy future.

Link to Elon's quote please.

'Hillary once said Russia and China were funding green energy non-profits
In the 70s they tried crippling US with "global cooling"
Then the cooling was a no-show and it became "global warming"
Then the warming stopped and it became "climate change" or just weather change
No rain? Climate change
Too much rain? Climate change.
There are more satellites over the ocean now so they name storms out there
Then the headline is "Most named storms in history"
Of course China and Russia laugh the loudest
They got a US nation where 1 in 7 is on meds to fall for the weather hoax
The genius of it is that politicians/MSM/Corp grifters get to scream "Emergency!" now for a crisis that is supposedly decades away (no recent predictions came true)
They never have to show progress - just panic and FUD.
Personally I would like an electric car, but not from a CCP industry built on the wreckage of US
You know CCP already has plans to move part of its population to US after the fall
They work every day to take US out and the ninnies on meds and yoga pants line right up!
I see some are starting to wake-up so we'll see
Thank you for providing a very valuable service to those of us that no longer have access to the CE board by keeping us current on the latest right wing hysteria being peddled and swallowed when it comes to renewables/EVs/climate denial. (Likewise on your Russia-defending posts in the stock thread.)
Cheers.

My post was 100% on topic. You, on the other hand, are are being very offensive by spamming the thread with Tesla marketing propaganda so obnoxiously.

It doesn’t matter what the WSJ article says. Simple common sense tells us an ICE vehicle is going to be more striaghtforward than an EV for a long road trip. All one has to do is hop in the car and go. No need to give any thought to charging or range. Because EV infrastructure is nowhere near as common or fast as gas stations.

If you wanted to correct the articles facts, if that was really your intent, you could have just posted the factual corrections yourself. But instead, you decided to use the opportunity to proselytize.

You are doing the online equivalent of what Jehovah‘s Witnesses do. And everybody always loves when a JW shows up at their front door, right?

There's a reason why people avoid you in real life. Congrats on the ignore.

Saw a Hyundai Ionic on the road this morning for the first time. I thought it looked really nice, particularly from the sides and rear. Will be interested to see what sort of range improvements get baked into the next generation of them.

My most recent ex, who was with me, didn't like how it looked. But then she dated me for awhile, so it's obvious she has a major malfunction in her sense of aesthetics. Thus we should probably discount her opinion in this case.

All these tree-huggers jumping on the band wagon will regret it.
Don't get the idea anyone here is frantic about climate change. There are a host of immediate benefits to EV ownership that have nothing to do with climate or "hugging trees."

No idea where this illogical hatred comes from. As if gas vehicles were ordained from heaven to be forever. Of course car tech was going to evolve.
Leave him alone, he’s still perfectly happy with his Sony Walkman 😂

Horses, steam engines, ICE, EVs,......
What comes next? Nothing is forever.
It's an exciting time to witness this transformation. I don't get the resistance either.

The latest tale being spun (this time by the far right) is that the current admin is FORCING EVERYONE to buy an EV. Socialism! Why would the current admin be actively ignoring Tesla's existence if that were the case?

I bought an EV because it's an amazing product with the added bonus of saving me time and money.

All good points.

Sad when people base their entire existence around political biases, especially fake ones.

Edit: Hate is too strong, just don’t love it enough to drop that amount of cash.

Nonsense like this is where you lost me. I think EV registration data in an EV thread is very logical.
Your counterpoint posts as a big ICE fan were sometimes pretty instructive. Now I just use your long-winded diatribes aimed at anyone just mentioning Tesla to get to sleep at night when I drank coffee too late in the day.

I often drink coffee too late, full nighttime sometimes.

I'm gonna try that!

If the EV is better, it will ultimately win out in the marketplace.
What I don't like is government deciding for us. No need to mandate that all cars be EV by such as such date.
That's what rubs me the wrong way.

There was no government mandate to sell ICE cars when horses, steam-cars and early electric cars fell out of favor.

If they don't surpass gas vehicles all around, or get surpassed by a newer technology, expect dates and mandates to change.

I don't trust government to follow through with what it says it's going to do this year; I sure don't take mandates for a decade+ seriously.

EVs have made pretty amazing strides in the past 10 years, thanks in part to gov push. Expect them to look pretty damn attractive by 2030.

Fossil fuels will eventually run out. Humanity either transitions to sustainable energy or civilization collapses. That's what it boils down to. One can choose to kick the can down the road for future generations to worry about, or take action now.

This is cool:

And a fair point on steering wheel--is this aftermarket retrofit? And this is why yokes are stupid.

And on the downside for Tesla:

A U.S. investigation into Tesla vehicles operating on partially automated driving systems that have crashed into parked emergency vehicles has moved a step closer to a recall.

NHTSA began its inquiry in August of last year after a string of crashes since 2018 in which Teslas using the company's Autopilot or Traffic Aware Cruise Control systems hit vehicles at scenes where first responders used flashing lights, flares, an illuminated arrow board, or cones warning of hazards.

The probe now covers 830,000 vehicles, almost everything that Austin, Texas, carmaker has sold in the U.S. since the start of the 2014 model year.

One last sort of unrelated post. It's good to have Geico when driving EVs or any other cars. A guy like @mildone may want to strongly consider Geico when he is picking up his H/B in his vehicle. Talk about comprehensive coverage!!!

I have zero problems with someone periodically posting sales or registration numbers. I have no problem with Tesla. If Belly posted the same crap about Porsche or Ferrari or any other manufacturer, I would be posting the exact same responses. That the posts are about Tesla is 100% irrelevant.

Go look at the tweet again. Look at the last sentence, with it’s in-your-face attitude and the @ mention to Tesla and Musk. It’s not any kind of dry recitation of relevant facts. It’s pure undignified adulation. It’s extremely distasteful and would be just as distasteful no matter what brand or product it was about.

Now look through the thread and note that nobody else is doing that sort of brand worship thing. It’s not the brand. It’s the spamming of the thread, of the forum, that is so objectionable.

Don’t know how to make this any more clear.

Shale, oil sands, and fracking have extended available oil supplies for another century. Other new technologies will extend it even further. Maybe by then EVs will have advanced enough. But my flying car should be around by then.

You aren’t spamming the forum or heaping adulation on any products. So no slurp comments for you.

🙂

Nothing objectionable about pointing out stuff you think is cool. And you don’t piss on anybody else’s idea of what’s cool. And you point out cool stuff from any brands.

Yokes in road cars are dumb because the wheel must be rotated all the way around, and then some, when rotating the car through tight corners. A yoke is missing critical grip points whereas a round wheel can be gripped anywhere along the full 360 degrees. Which is necessary for good hand positioning.

On race cars, the steering system is set up such that the wheel doesn’t ever need to be rotated anywhere near as far as a road car, even in the tightest corners. So a yoke actually makes good sense due to its improved cockpit visibility, switchgear accessibility, weight, etc.

NHTSA is very good at launching investigations into problems that Tesla has already addressed. Same thing happened with Tesla's Boom Box app. NHTSA announced an investigation, Tesla fixes the problem within hours.

Tesla pushes software updates to their ADAS system and FSD beta on a regular basis. Eventually every auto maker will be doing the same. These years long investigations are a waste of tax payer money. I'm not saying NHTSA shouldn't investigate, but something needs to change to keep up with rapidly evolving technology.

How about automakers actually ensuring they follow the rules before they ship software?

Electric fire apparatus? Are some of the haters in this thread firefighters?

"it’s also important to acknowledge the cacophony of comments that have permeated news and analysis articles plus social media posts since the introduction of these apparatus – many of which are quite skeptical if not downright negative."

“Replacement batteries will be cost-prohibitive”: I’ve heard some say battery replacements will run from $25,000 to $100,000, but let’s face it, this is no more costly than $75,000 to $150,000 for diesel engine replacements, so I’m not sure this is a reasonable fear. As has been the experience with other technology, I suspect size and prices will come down for batteries as the industry continues to evolve."

As Sam Cooke sang, a change is gonna come.

How are the leasing costs for EV ?

Is there any quirks like how do tax credits get applied?

Anyone have the Mach-e? Leaning towards that over Tesla - just on appearances alone, but most reviews have been positive.

I’d maybe lean towards the Ioniq between that and the Mach E. Have you given it any thought?

That’s pretty slick too. Will check it out. I’d just go for the Tesla, but Model Y just looks like a generic lunar vehicle to me.

I've figured on EV ownership being at least a few years down the road for me financially, but I was just looking at how much I've been spending on gas, and realized that in almost every month for the past 15 months, I've spent more on gas than a monthly payment on a $40-50k EV would be. Seems like unless gas takes a drastic drop, an EV in that range would pay for itself, so I just started to take a look at what's available. First ones that pop out to me are the Silverado and the Subaru Solterra mainly because I'd like a truck and have been driving a Subaru since 2005. The pre-orders for Solterras are done, but deliveries are expected in the next month or so, so I wonder if that means more orders will be taken soon. I know of the Lightning but haven't really liked most of the Fords I've driven. Any other trucks/SUVs I should look at in that price range? Are there any EVs that have tangible buttons and knobs instead of a touchscreen?

I'm not a big fan of the Tesla styling in general. Gotta say, there's one Tesla SUV I've seen around my area, that's not a model Y, that is growing on me a little from certain angles. I think maybe the owner has done some aftermarket work to it.

The Cadillac Lyriq looks really nice, but won't be out until August. Might be worth a look too.

I'm still holding out for more range before I make the jump.

Even if the battery lasts for half that, that's still way longer than most people keep their cars. I'd say most EV drivers won't have to replace their battery.

Really? Who is trying to force you into buying a car? Classic car shows aren't going anywhere, it's not like gasoline is going to cease existing. Even so, is it worth maintaining our dependence on gasoline just to save classic car shows? I'm looking forward to eventually owning an EV once the infrastructure is improved and there is an EV that I am interested in, but I'm also looking forward to driving my gas-powered hot rod (yet to be built) for as long as it will last.
Sadly, this forum is littered with folks who just want to argue about literally anything and some bad faith idiots with a grudge against EVs because they are locked in some mental combat to return life to the 1950s.

I think your POV may be common - when folks buy a new car, an EV will get careful consideration. The number of males and models coming online is exciting for new car buyers.
