OT: Electric vehicles

It’s becoming very hard to understand how this guy managed to be so successful running Tesla. With Twitter, he’s now conducting a demonstration of the best way to cause all your top technical talent to flee to the competition.

Question for EV owners who charge at home. Does it matter when you charge? My JCPL doesn’t differentiate. Looks like I’m paying 13 cents per kwh
Just want to let you know I have a spreadsheet set up to calc my total cost for the ConEd billing period. For the period that ended on 11/4 charging my PHEV used 90.82 kWh (according to the Ford App) and ConEd charged 25.1653 cents per kWh for Supply & Delivery so my total cost was $22.85.

What developer would want to work in those conditions? Bizarre way to run a company. Toxic culture.

care to respond, moron?
I stand by my assertion and some of your own data verifies it. Tesla should be included in the popular brand category as well since they're producing more vehicles than some "popular" brands on those lists. Shouldn't a vehicle be considered popular based on sales volume? I mentioned fleet owners flocking to EVs. Apparently they have more foresight than you. Time will tell who's correct.

wtf are you talking about? depreciation is a real # that is calculated based on resale values of cars, not cuz of maintenance, not because of "feelings" and perceptions about a particular car or type of car. as of right now, there are a number of ICE cars that have "better" depreciation numbers than your beloved tesla. full stop. you said that EV's were blowing away ICE cars. we proved you wrong and you are now pouting about "feelings". gtfoh.

Not familiar with either. Saw the Tweet, posted it here. Should I be concerned?
ARK as an investment firm, headed by Cathie Wood, made a ton of money in the tech run up. Aunt Cathie had basically bet the farm on Elon. When Tesla falls, her firm falls. She had a vested interest in propping this ventures up.

Lots of talent at Twitter quitting. According to this article, could be as many as 80% of post-layoff employees.

Elon playing 4D chess. Riiiiight. 🤣

He will take them public again within 3 years north of $100 billion

Maybe. 🙂

He’ll have better odds of success if he lays himself off, seeing as how he’s had so much practice.
Optically he’s doing a bad job. I tend to think it’s purposeful. Here’s the kinda thing he’s weeding out, much less attention grabbing than the “Elon is the devil” headlines we see elsewhere.

Crippling your 40bn investment's ability to stay online and running is done on purpose?

I don’t believe it’s anywhere near crippled
We’ll see.

Great tech talent is hard to find. And it’s fleeing Twitter right now.

The people being laid off in tech right now, over economic fears, are not the top talent; they’re the average performers. Hard to see why top talent would go to Twitter right now, given the employee unfriendly “culture” being established by it‘s new owner and CEO.

And it’s hard to see Twitter remaining in business when it cannot attract top talent, is alienating its customers and subscribers, and is hemorrhaging its dwindling revenue.

If Musk wants to right the ship, I’m pretty sure he’s gonna have to change his approach.

Not sure who coined the phrase, but it's the "valley of death" projected to hit legacy auto. As demand for the ICE declines how does legacy auto scale unprofitable EVs while cannibalizing profitable ICE sales?

I guess everyone is busy talking about Twitter in the EV thread and proclaiming their business expertise, but Volkswagen made a pretty big announcement this week.

https://www.reuters.com/business/au...nity-electric-vehicle-plant-doubt-2022-11-17/

A huge delay for their next generation software stack and their next generation EV platform. Trinity, their next generation EV is now delayed and for the cherry on top, cancelling their next generation EV factory. Everything VW has been saying with regards to EVs for the last 2 years is now out the window.

I'll say it again. Legacy auto is very good at making proclamations about EVs, not so much about actually producing them. The valley of death looks to be a real thing.

Oh no! Another Tesla Fire …

Incredible photos show unidentifiable Tesla after Pennsylvania highway fire

“According to state police, a Tesla, the most popular brand of electric vehicles, was traveling west on I-80 when it caught fire. One lane along mile marker 137 westbound was restricted for some time as crews were putting out the fire.”

Oh no, another horrible gasoline car fire. Poor Jay Leno.

Yeah, I heard Musks software people, being the kind of average talent a tyrannical CEO type can attract, have been pushing bad beta software OTA. And thus we’re seeing more Tesla’s catch fire.

Weird.

I feel like I am one of just a few posters who want to make sure all the available info on EVs gets posted in this thread.

Good call. Exactly the same …

A brand new, state of the art, electric vehicle (Tesla) burst into flames while being driven on a busy highway.

And Jay Leno’s 115 year-old, antique vehicle catches fire in his garage.

“Jay Leno revealed he suffered third-degree burns and may need skin grafts after a 115-year-old car burst into flames in his famous LA garage, where he was rescued by a quick-thinking friend.”

Thank you for your tireless efforts. What conclusions have you reached based on all of your evidence based research?
Thanks for the shout out!

The jury is still out on EVs; lot of good info in this thread.

At the same time, I feel like I have earned a PhD in the study of Human Bias and its Associated Triggers while reading and participating in the discussion.

It is a great thread. Thanks, again.

"The jury is still out", yet every one of your posts is anti EV with claims that are easily debunked. Interesting you should mention bias.

Oh good, thanks for making the point for me that ICE engines are based on 115 year old technology and are extremely dangerous.

If for even a second you were bright enough to stop and think how car fires compare between ICE and EV, you’d realize you’re arguing against yourself.

Google news search “car fire” to see how dumb you are.

Quality post, right there. :)

Lmao. Lose an argument and post a triggered gif that doesn’t even make sense.
Please link a post wherein I made an “argument” about EV fires.

You will not because you cannot.

It’s not a phantom argument that triggered you, but simple facts that set you off.

Don’t be afraid of information.

Information can be your friend.

Try to enjoy the day.

Posting articles about EV fires is information. It’s not useful information, though, to assess the risk of EV fires as compared to ICE fires, as this article in Autoweek discusses:

Researchers from insurance deal site Auto Insurance EZcompiled sales and accident data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and the National Transportation Safety Board. The site found that hybrid vehicles had the most fires per 100,000 sales at 3474.5. There were 1529.9 fires per 100k for gas vehicles and just 25.1 fires per 100k sales for electric vehicles.

Based on NTSB data, EV fires are less frequent per 100,000 vehicles than are ICE fires.

That’s far more useful information when trying to assess risk.

Well said, that’s exactly the point.

The thing is, he doesn’t bother to do any research. He sees EV car fire posts in his social media echo chamber and reposts here like the good sheep he is.

Thanks, Frida, for your thoughtful reply.

Quite a contrast to the triggered Blackout’s emotional outbursts.
