OT: Electric vehicles

Don't buy the FUD!
If you make up imaginary data, and don't provide sources, you can prove anything.
https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy...uel-gas-powered-cars-end-2022-consulting-firm

My long range M3 has a 79 kWh pack.
310 mile range.

I'm paying $0.16/kW at home for electric in NJ. Therefore, to charge from 0 to 100% SOC = $12.64

My most recent Supercharger stop cost $0.36/kW. From 0 to 100% SOC would be $28.44.

This is why these arbitrary levels are ridiculous. Limited by speed, needs a "pace car", doesn't work on curved roads and only available on specific, premapped stretches of highway.

But, hey, it's level 3, right? Very functional 😂

Audi had level 3 autonomy 2 years ago. They followed this amazing milestone by abandoning their autonomy program.

I think it's time we abandon the levels.
Why? So Tesla looks better?

Levels are a useful guideline. Argue for broadening them, if anything.

Useful by insinuating a level 3 system is more functional than the average level 2? If you can demonstrate that I'll concede. Nothing to do with Tesla.
Simple is best:
Driver attention required
Can drive autonomously in geofenced area
Can drive autonomously anywhere

For anyone interested, this graphic shows the levels of vehicle automation.

NYC gonna NYC.

NYC gonna NYC.

I know exactly where this occurred. Near Staten Island University Hospital. I almost went there to charge up once and decided not to because of the back in parking requirement. Along that street there is usually a traffic cop stationed there full time.

This doesn't mean what you think it means. It's actually quite simple.

Teslas are shitty cars.

VW builds good cars.

Ergo, VW does not feel compelled to try to compete with Tesla on price. Just like they don't compete with GM or Ford on price.
Yet when you research Tesla customer satisfaction, they're industry leading.

Emotive reasoning vs reality. You've morphed into a toddler throwing a tantrum when it comes to anything Tesla or Elon. Quite bizarre.

No, they're not.

There's a single report published by something called "Zutobi" which claims that "Tesla owners are happiest" compared to other manufacturers.

Since I've never heard of Zutobi, I went to the American Customer Satisfaction Index, which shows the following:

American Customer Satisfaction Index: Luxury nameplates

  1. Lexus (84)
  2. Acura (82)
  3. Audi (82)
  4. Infiniti (82)
  5. Cadillac (80)
  6. Tesla (80)
  7. Mercedes-Benz (79)
  8. BMW (77)
  9. Volvo (76)
  10. Lincoln (75)

Zutobi released a report tracking four different car owner rating reports from Parkers, HonestJohn, Autotrader, and Edmunds in order to put together a global owner happiness tracker. From this dataset, Tesla was #1.

But regardless, let's go with your data. Tesla is 4 points from the top. Guess you were wrong. Emotive reasoning.

Ironic post because you're the only person regularly exhibiting emotion in this thread (other than amusement). You very obviously get angry when people point out Musk's obvious flaws is or say anything negative about Tesla or their cars.

I'm a fan of the Porsche brand. But you could say negative stuff about Porsche and it's CEO all day long and I would never feel compelled to defend them. I wouldn't be emotionally moved to lob lame insults at you over it, the way you do with anybody daring to speak out against Musk and Tesla.

Hell, depending on what negative things you say, I'd be in total agreement about it. There are plenty of negatives about Porsche. Just like every other automotive company.

Incidentally, this site places Tesla mid-pack in customer satisfaction:

JD Power initial quality survey doesn't make Tesla look particularly industry leading at all:

Interestingly, JD Power has this to say about Tesla:

"Tesla Motors officially included for the first time: Tesla Motors is included in the industry calculation for the first time, with a score of 226 PP100. However, because Tesla Motors does not allow J.D. Power access to owner information in the states where that permission is required by law, Tesla vehicles remain ineligible for awards."

More of that Musk focus on transparency at work, eh?

"4 points from the top" is the Tesla Fanboi way of looking at it.

The more accurate way of looking at it would be "5th".

Do you spend you day posting about things you don’t like? Your anti-EV/Tesla obsession is old.

Both are equally accurate. One of us is honest. According to you, Tesla makes "shitty" cars that randomly lose parts as they drive. Looks like the people that actually own the cars disagree. The data indicates Tesla owners are very happy with their vehicle choice. I love how I'm called a "fanboy" for correcting blatant lies. I

LOL... because I point out bullshit. Ok. Guilty.
Provide evidence where I've perpetuated a falsehood.

NYC gonna NYC.

NYC again:
They're currently installing about a dozen charging stations by a Stop & Shop near me. Every one is Tesla with 3 others being EVgo Fast Chargers.

Yawn. I'm neither anti-EV nor anti-Tesla.

The only thing I'm opposed to is undignified and sycophantic fanboy behavior. You wouldn't happen to know anybody who regularly engages in such behavior here in this thread, would you? 😉

It must be difficult for you cultists that most of us aren't so emotionally wedded to any car brands. You see someone post a less-than-perfectly positive article or comment about the object of your creepy adoration, and it evokes all these feelings of being persecuted in you. But because the vast majority of us don't form such weird attachments to stuff, you cannot get even.

It's okay. You're gonna be okay. Here, have a virtual hug.

It's bullshit to equate satisfaction survey results with quality. So you don't get all offended, I'll use Porsche as an example.

Porsche cars, like every other manufacturer out there, can exhibit reliability problems. In some cases, the problems can be really pretty bad and fairly prevalent. And yet Porsche usually ranks pretty highly in customer satisfaction surveys due, in part, to brand loyalty. And in part, because of the feelings evoked by driving the car.

I'm a perfect example. I flat out love my 911. Love. It. But my car isn't perfectly reliable and it has flaws (e.g. the manual gearbox can be notchy at times, especially when cold and the sound system is meh). Doesn't matter to me. Nor does these issues seem to matter much to a majority of 911 owners. My subjective satisfaction level is like 11 out of 10. I'm so happy with it, I'm in the market for a second, more extreme 911.

So I would imagine the same is true for Teslas. Or Jeeps (which are notoriously unreliable). Despite the reliability issues and fit and finish issues, the owners still really like them.

Satisfaction and reliability just don't correlate very well, at least with certain brands. You'd think they would. But they don't.
