OT: Electric vehicles

Oooh. Checked out the boat. That looks really nice.

And... well... on the boat website, in the photos, that second woman looks a bit too old to be a daughter. So I'm thinking the dude is sailing around with two women. Which is nice, when you can get it.

And the pricing is a lot less than I would've thought.

So yeah... now I'm starting to think cars suck and I should get a boat.

You suck. 😀

I'm just trying to be helpful.

And I'm always willing to talk to you about cruising plans. At the moment something like a 10 year old Lagoon 440 is out of my price range, by myself, but... 😉

But you're not even one woman, let alone two.

Hm. Well, I suppose if you're willing to dress in drag and you bring a friend.

But this friend better be a woman for real. A hot woman. With a very bad attitude.

You know you're overlooking the ages-old sailing maxim, right?

If you sail it, they will come.

Or put another way... why on earth would we want to drag along permachicks when at literally every marina, landfall and beach bar there's no shortage of "nice boat... mind if I come aboard?"

I suppose there is that. Would I have to give up the sheep?

they have those pigs that swim in the sea...

It's a bit of a misrepresentation. They don't swim so much as wade in the shallows - and the main reason they do that is to be first to greet the food-bearing tourists.

They're also pretty ill-tempered (as pigs tend to be), especially considering that they're visited by throngs of people, daily.

If I were visited by throngs of people, I'd be pretty ill-tempered just like the pigs.

Hm... I do tend to like overeating. And I don't like to shower very much so I can get pretty smelly.

Aw jeez. 😕

What a yoke.

hey, at least they realized that it can't be used in the same way as a full steering wheel and are tweaking the tuning...unlike some other manufacturer.

More proof it’s a solution looking for a problem. With heads up displays, there is just no excuse for a yoke in a road car. Lunacy. And steer-by-wire, to the degree Toyota is attempting, is a totally unnecessary complexity.

Just use a steering wheel. Easy. Whatever executives are championing these efforts at either company should be fired by their respective boards.

But ya know what's next after yokes, right?

Joysticks. Center console-mounted, push to accelerate, pull to brake, left/right to steer. No more peddles no more wheels.

Yeah. To get people ready for hovercars. They could just jam an Xbox controller on a stick.

When the gt3 shows up, I’m gonna burst into the showroom to take delivery waving an Xbox controller and yelling “yank out the wheel, I’m high tech, bitches!”. Think it’ll produce a laugh? 😀

the PS4/PS5 controller is better than Xbox. and probably a better option than the pilot stick.

Or you could ask them how far it goes on just the battery. 🤣

I haven't used a Playstation in many, many years.

But, the last time I did, it was one of my nephew's. Our extended family was at LBI for the week and he was 12. He'd brought a school chum along.

They brought a playstation and were taking turns playing Gran Turismo, using the controller not a wheel. They were all excited about doing a ton of races, winning them, and building up enough prize money to "buy" an LMP1 car.

So I started taking turns w/them. I sucked at first, not used to the controller or the game. But I got addicted almost instantly. So the 3 of us spent every waking hour at the game, no beach, no meals, no card games at night. Which was seriously pissing my sister-in-law off.

She'd shoo them off to bed at like 2am. But she couldn't shoo me off to bed. So I basically didn't sleep for 3 days, just playing all night. On like the 4th night there, by around 4am, I got us over the amount the boys had identified as what was needed for the LMP1 car. So I off to bed, happy to have left them a cool present for when they woke up and got back to it.

Only to be awakened several hours later when the boys woke and got back to the game, but it had "lost" it's storage for the user we were all playing as. Totally wiped clean. The three of us were devastated (laughably, in hindsight).

The sister in law was barely able to control her smirk. She never admitted it, but it seemed she got on the game that morning and wiped the saved game data for the user we were all playing as. She kept saying stuff like "these electronics have quirks". Oooh, I wanted to kill her so bad. LOL

Anyway, the PS4/5 controller might be better, but it bring back the "trauma" of that morning. Thus, I am an xbox player now. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The nephew's getting married in November, and his buddy will be there. I might have to drag the two of them over to the sister-in-law and have a trial.

There's a chance the 992.2 (facelift) generation GT3 will have a bit of hybrid assist. It's been a persistent rumor, and not just in internet forums - even the sales guys are saying it's likely. Porsche has the European pressure to meet efficiency standards that are much tougher than anything we have here.

It has the purists worried. Me, I'm thinking, any of us would give our left nut for a 918 Spyder. Which is a hybrid. So...

NA cars are likely to die off pretty soon, unless the carbon-neutral e-fuel thing pans out pretty quickly. It is being used actively now, in some racing and other various public demonstrations. They just need to figure out how to lower the cost of production. I think it would be nice if we could preserve that bit of automotive heritage.

In other news, the entire lineup of the CX-30 has just been jacked by $2k for 2024.

Which means if I didn't value semi-regular sex and clean laundry I could probably sell my car for more than I paid for it. 🤣

I don't want to be a cliche-machine, but the cost of everything is getting a little nuts lately.

Incidentally, I would be remiss if I didn't point out an alternative solution to the conundrum you may not realize you are experiencing. You could do your own laundry. That opens the door to selling the wife and using the proceeds from the sale to pay for hookers and blow.

And that opens the door to having tons of irregular sex which can be way more fun than regular sex. Uh, I mean, or so I've been told, anyway.

True - I couldn't replace it for anything approaching reasonable.

As for the rest... You raise some intriguing points. Except for that doing my own laundry thing. That's just absurd.

My brother bought a bolt a few months ago - really likes it. you can also get Tesla Model 3 right now for a similar price.

$27,260 total out the door with the state and federal incentives. Amazing deal right - and no haggling.
Don't forget an additional $500 off the Model 3 if you use someone's referral code

I got a notification about an update for better charging experience yesterday. Must be different than this because it didysay beta testing. Do you know the official date when Ford will have access to Tesla’s superchargers?
I got a DC fast charging update on September 20, but I don't think I got this update. I don't at close attention to updates, and I only become aware when I see something on the forums or on that blog.

Have no idea on Tesla chargers. I have charged in only 2 places, home and work.

You can use the Magic Dock if available. Does your Ford app locate them?

NACS adoption doesn't begin until 2025 for the OEMs that announced the switch, so I hope Tesla continues to push out magic dock in the meantime. Also fair to assume NACS adoption will be delayed.

Just googled and you are right about 2025. Last time I used DC fast charging was in July for a trip to MD. I will check to see if the Ford app shows any Tesla stations.

Considering Tesla opens more than 1 new supercharger station/day (globally), I thought there'd be more w magic dock. Hopefully more soon.

I saw something on this on the Lightning Forums, where there are far fewer trolls than on this thread. They had 17. Good to see more.

Meanwhile, not looking to start a CT vs. Lightning rock fight, but some interesting stuff on the purported CT bed design that the Lightning forums are barking about:

Every time I see that thing I'm stricken by how completely ugly it is.

Semi-regular! 😆 I guess that's how sex frequency after years of marriage can be defined.

Didn’t see the range. But 3rd row SUV are popular. Not sure why the article compares it with model Y and EQB. Totally different segment. It will compete with R1S but as a cheaper alternative. All the EV makers have to start making their cars with bidirectional charging. It doesn’t have to be a whole hose generator but it should double as a portable generator.

I saw the same and I'll just say this. To assume Tesla is prioritizing form over function without seeing an actual production vehicle or knowing its specs is silly.

As a fairly detached consumer and neutral to slightly positive on Tesla/Musk, and while you have detailed why it has happened, it seems the rollout of the CT has been drawn out and clumsy. Hope that pickup truck bed is not the one in the production model. I'm glad I go the Lightning, however, I will admit to having range envy when I saw the 410 mile range I posted above for the Rivian pickup. I think the Rivian is a very nice product.

The rollout of all EVs has been drawn out and clumsy. Not sure why you're singling out the 1 company doing it better than anyone.
