OT: Electric vehicles

I went with electric leaf blower and some other yard tools. One, the gas powered blowers were a pain in the ass to maintain, sometimes you smelled like shit after from the exhaust, and the number of times I went out to blow leaves and realized my gas can was empty and I had to run to the gas station was annoying.

Conversely, I do have a gas powered Ariens snowblower. I see they now have electric ones but I don't trust them at this point.

Which reminds me, do I have gas in the gas can for the snowblower?
Usually have to maintain separate gas can for the smaller gas powered tools since they are 2 stroke engines so advantage there for the battery powered landscaping tools. Agree on the snowblower, especially if need to clear a lot of heavy snow in very cold temps.

Only downside with the electric was I underestimated how much time it normally would take to do my typical leaf blowing. I thought swapping two batteries would work. I needed a third, so I found a used one on eBay, bought a third cheap charger and now can get through the yard by just rotating batteries.
I have a gas and electric and use the electric on small stuff. I don't think the electric is ready for primetime. all about knowing it's limitations really

for landscaping electric is completely worthless and inefficient...the mandates being put on states including NJ soon to ban gas powered leaf blowers is insane

considering the biggest elitist climate karens/gretas are also the ones that want their precious lawns meticulous maintained with every speck of grass and leaf blown from their mulch beds

Paywalled articles are useless. Link below details the story, and is readable. This is a big problem. Similar to other problems with this Administration pushing false narratives and showing an inability to admit they got caught, were wrong and to walk back their false narratives. Really poor by the progressives. Losers. The irony is they made the man many of them hate, Elon Musk, much richer with this scheme. That's kind of funny in a perverse way.

yup its an untrustworthy admin that has pushed some radical things and when digging into the details you find how they have lied and fudged definitions of things

I love using battery powered lawn tools and even recently purchased a battery operated chainsaw and love it. Not against EV's,I just hate them being jammed down our throats with timelines to phase out gas. Get the friggin charging stations in place first. Does this current administration think anything through? The only way these EV's take off is if the batteries are lighter by half and the range is advanced by 3x. The reason I say lighter is because I was at Sam's getting new tires and a woman in front of me was bitching about how fast her tires were wearing down. The tire manager said because of the weight of the battery in her Tesla, not only do they use special tires for all EV's, wear is still incredibly fast. Was that item added to the cost bases comparing gas vs EV?

You and your CE circle jerk friends have no idea what you are talking about--but enjoy slurping all over each other. You are hilariously off base.
you will find you actually have about 90% in common with the ce circle jerk......have you been paying attention to what they are talking about in Davos this week

Yeah- electric snowblowers not ready for prime time.
The problem with gasoline-powered small engines is the 10% ethanol gas. Need to drain the gas tank if your gas-powered engine sits idle for a long time. Have to do this with the snowblower and rototiller. Usually leave the mower and tractor full of gasoline and start it a couple of times over the winter.

Just started the snowblower for the first time in 3 years and it started right up. In the past, without draining the gas and running it dry, would take a lot of work on cleaning the carburetor and replacing the needle valve.

Electric leaf blower is OK for routine stuff, but no battery powered leaf vac exists, and the gas blowers still have more power- so we use both.
Have several of the EGO tools and the electric pole chain saw works great, and it has a pole hedge trimmer attachment. Don't have to worry about fuel getting stale. Battery life is fine.

The electric ones aren't going to be comparable to the Ariens in terms of power. I have a small Honda gas snowblower and it can handle more than the similarly sized typical electric Ego snowblowers that are around the neighborhood.
Yeah- would avoid battery powered snowblower for a while, unless you get backup batteries. For the amount of use the snowblower gets, does not seem the investment. The ozone layer will survive limited use of the gas snowblowers.

Well, that would be funny, wouldn't it. You're OK. You add value to this board, and you don't attack randomly for the sake of attacking. Most of the time, you have a counterpoint. The other ones, make assumptions without knowing squat about the person they are attacking. Guess what? Know a several MAGA, NRA members who own one or more EVs along with Ford Raptors and ICE sports cars. Some of these whackjobs paint with a broad brush because someone owns an EV--that's funny.

And elitist? It's elitist to own an EV? Many people I know who own an EV or a hybrid bought cheap EVs when gas prices were in the $4-5 range because they were afraid they would not afford gasoline. That's not elitist or privilege-that's common sense. Lax boy is one of the worst posters on the boards. Never adds anything positive to any of the discussions on football. Lives on the CE board and comes into good threads to inject his politics. Loser. Added several people to the ignore list, because there is no sense arguing with biased, close-minded idiots.

Have a nice day. Good win for Pike's team last night.

I think he's the one poster who makes the most generalizations out of everyone here and that is saying a lot given some of the people on this board. what is funny is that he is quick to cite others for their approach but does the same thing time and time again. I think he's a cancer here

Outed you as an unhinged idiot so I’m doing something right. #BatteryBoy #EstrogenVehicle

It’s shocking that everyone doesn’t know about WEFs plans

I was looking at their Twitter.
With all commotion about plastic, the thing now is floating plastic solar panels in lakes, oceans and ponds.
Can't make it up

WTF is this? I believe he's saying," I've got Covid and I'm making sure I spread it to each and everyone of you douche bags".

I just shared since I saw the recent conversations. Outside of high end sports cars and pick ups, cars are bad investments. Which is why I tend to keep them longer than most.

Think it’s just me and @Knight Shift. Trucks are not for everyone and not a lot of people can afford the 70k+ price tag.
There were (are?) models for $49K plus the $7500 tax credit (if still available).
Not for everyone, but for a local driver that needs the hauling capacity for small projects, firewood, etc., $42K with no sales tax is not terrible.
Cars you drive daily are not investments.
Yeah, but non-daily antique and show cars can be great investments.

The depreciation on the EVs for those that bought in 2022 and early 2023 is real. I figure it will even out over time, and I am not inclined to sell mine and take a loss.

Thing is also a tailgate machine like no stock ICE car or truck will ever be. Pretty relevant to this particular subset of humanity.

New Tacoma with docked JBL Bluetooth speaker is maybe closest comp from ICE. Even uses solid state battery.

Well, demand is not there right now. Probably a combination of the initial surge interest of orders has been filled, the economy, price cuts, the flailing charging network, and a bit of an EV backlash due to too much of a push from the administration has cooled demand for at least the F150 Lightning. Ford is adjusting production to meet demand.

Mister Tesla will surely come in and beat his chest and declare victory. It will be interesting to see what the CT's initial and sustained sales are. Don't really see the CT and F150 Lightning as competing vehicles, with the CT being more a niche type vehicle and the F150 Lightning being an EV alternative to an existing product. Will be interesting to see how Rivian pickup sales compare too.
