OT: Favorite Bingeable/ Weekly Show Right Now…

The Curse of Oak Island is back. 3 episodes so far plus an add'l hour afterwards of Oak Island stories over the centuries.

Am I the only acorn still watching?
I am still watching although I have found this show to be a great sleep inducer. For whatever reason I can’t stay awake to watch it live. I set the DVR to record the series and have to re-watch it on Wednesday’s.

I am a huge history guy and like the story line to re-write North American history. My take is the treasure is long gone (if it was ever there) but the people and who was on the island still keep me interested (somewhat). I still think that Dr. Ian Spooner is just stringing these guys along.

I watch the 1st hour (9-10) and tape the new 2nd hour (10-11) and watch Wednesday too.

I want Rick to get his answers. He's a true dreamer. There's also a number of likeable people involved who you want to see succeed.

I like Tulsa King, it's just mindless fun, where you don't overthink the plots. Found it enjoyable, Stallion as aging gangster and I like a lot of stuff Frank Grillo is in.

Diplomat was good but like @rutgersguy1 said, the ending was a little too much, but I can live with it.

Penguin is a hidden gem. very well done and acted, I was surprised but shouldn't have been from HBO. However, for a while they did start to get away from making good series, while they focused more on the political topics of today.
love Tulsa, all done with it

we started Elementary and really like it

Waiting for Silo, Phophecy, and Landsman to finish seasons before I start watching

anyone mention The Boys? I'm on season 3 as well

I do find it interesting that Alex Lagina looks exactly like that Sir William Phips. 😃. And I agree on Rick. He is a true believer and I hope he is not the person needed to die to reveal the treasure. 😃. A lot of likable people on the show.

Also my wife and I have a drinking game for every time one of the cast says “yeah”.

The new Dune series on Max is off to a great start. Requires a lot of concentration.

I watched the first two episodes. It's very good, but you're right, it requires a lot of concentration. I've never read the books, and I was a fan of the new movies. It's good so far, but you've got to give it your full attention with no interruptions.

If you like Elementary track down the BBC series it was based on.. Sherlock.. iirc, each season was four 1.5 hr episodes. Very good.. and different enough form the USA version to be enjoyed. Same with the sitcom Ghosts (if you can tolerate sitcoms).. a BBC version and US version, both good.

I did like The Boys.

Silo and Fallout are similar and different.. both good.

I still watch.. maybe hoping I am wrong that it was just milking it season after season now.

I joked that the metal detector guy is dropping his past finds from Florida and elsewhere around the island just to "find" them later and keep that steady income coming in.

My guess is that it doesn't matter where this treasure came from because it is long gone. That Samuel Ball guy seems to have found it and spent it.. and if you find treasure... do you stop digging and say, hey, that's enough? No.. you take it all. And if you were a former slave.. do you tell ANYONE about it? Hell no.

If you left a treasure on an island do you abandon it? No.. hell no. You go back for it.

Its gone. So all the show can do now is work the vikings in North American angle. There's real proof of that.

Then, of course, there's this whole small cult-lite following of people who think science and archaeology are so wrong about past civilizations and there very well could be structures these guys find that have no known explanation.. not even vikings.

I can't watch any more of the WD as the past 3 seasons really sucked in fact, I tried to watch the last two and couldn't get past the first 2 episodes. I haven't watched the new one with Rick but the reviews are not great with WD fans last I saw.

really was a great show

Same here.. can't even remember last time I watched TWD in any form.

I do recall predicting this disinterest when I saw an interview with teh graphic novel guy responsible... he said he has not planned an end to the story that as far as he was concerned it could go on forever.

That is just a setup for bad storytelling. Same as what happened before to "Twin Peaks" and "Lost".. in those cases, surprised by its huge success, both of those titles sought to extend teh planned story arc to 5-6 seasons for syndication purposes. They put the bottom line ahead of the story.

I found TWD interesting in a "what would you do" kinda way. It was fun while the audience was learning the rules of this well-defined new world and cast of characters. Then they kill off characters you liked and replaced them with disposable characters and they messed around with the world they built.

The Penguin was great. Best series I've seen in a long time.
I really thought it was great.

The young Oswald was, for lack of a better word, haunting.

In particular, that young actor, Cristin Milloti and Colin Farrell were all awesome.

It really had the best of everything, best writing, best music, best actors. It had it all. The problem is most people refuse to watch it because they think it's all comic book stuff. Believe me, you do not have to like comic books to watch this. Batman isn't in it and you don't have to know anything about the MCU or DCCU to love this series.

Anyone keeping up with Yellowstone? For me these new episodes have been great. Beth and Casey are next level.

Yellowstone is finished, such a great series.

Dexter: Original Sin started, I liked the first episode. Next year Dexter Resurrection comes out.

Sherlock is outstanding, much better than Elementary IMO.

Finished season 1 of the Day of the Jackal in Peacok. I enjoyed it and liked the unexpected ending, a little less predictable than the usual.

Haven't gone back over all the posts.... A friend recommended a show called "Slow Horses". Has anyone watched it ? Its on Apple
I’ve mentioned it in this thread and some others have as well. I’ve watched it from the start and have enjoyed it. Nice mix of suspense and comedy. Gary Oldman is hysterical in it imo.

Cross was really good, lots of twists and turns. One show I finally stopped watching is Surivor, first time I have missed an episode but the cast has become a bunch of weirdos with so much emotional baggage. Just can't watch it anymore.
Well you have me beat by 30+ (?) seasons is it lol…I watched season 1 of that start to finish but that was it for me.

Amazing Race though is one I really like and have been watching that from maybe season 3-4 til present.

I enjoy Amazing Race as well, I think Survivor is up to season 45?
no- it is season 46 or 47...I still watch it but so much less fun with the the newer PC format. Sorry- but watching hot people half naked and also playing the game and starving- much better than not willing to put a single attractive person on the show sucks.
And most know that I lean left but when Jeff had to ask the contestants if they were offended when he says "Come out guys" and one guy did and he had to change it...
I love AR- it lost some luster for a couple of years with covid and charter flights. But they are getting back to commercial flights, more getting taxis, etc...

That was where so many races were won and lost. Getting a taxi in a crowded city or getting a flight on your own.

Only a few contestants had figured out that if you are in a city and need a taxi fast and someone that knows English to help- was to go to the nearest hotel/doorman and ask for their help.

And actually, I think it was the Survivor producers that wanted to change the line that Jeff used for years, “come on in guys”, with guys being used generically. He asked all of the contestants if anyone was offended by it, and they all said no. Later in the show, someone piped up and said they changed their mind.

This last season of Silo is pretty bad. Helps me fall asleep, though.

Agreed. It’s almost like they purposely cast the special needs table. Bring back Parvati!

Just finished Rogue Heroes on Prime. Very good. A drama about the origins of the British Special Air Service (SAS) in North Africa. First season ends with the capture of unit founding commander Stirling. Paddy Mayne leads the regiment as the second season begins in 2025. If he's new to you, "Google" him. Quite an effective fighter.

Yellowstone final was pretty damn good
As far as last episodes go it was good. I would have changed ending.
Spoiler alert….
Was ok with the whole Beth Jamie nonsense. But Beth should have killed him just as Rip and Loyd come in. Shortly after Cops roll in and Loyd takes the fall for the brand.

There is a new series that I am looking forward to watching over the break on Hulu called "Say Nothing" about The Troubles in Northern Ireland. It is based on a book by the same name that happens to be my favorite book in the past decade.

If you want to go back a bit (2008), there is a 7-part miniseries on Max/HBO called "Generation Kill" that follows the US Marine Corps' 1st Reconnaissance Battalion during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It was written by David Simon/Ed Burns of "The Wire" fame; got a lot of praise for realism. (Also an excellent book.)
