OT: Feeling cold today? Check out N.J.‘s coldest temperatures ever recorded

wasn't it much worse than this just a couple years ago when the term "polar vortex" was introduced to the public? I remember it hitting around -5 to -10 in NYC which generally is warmer than NJ state.
NYC hasn't been below 0F since 2016 (-1F) and the last time before that was 1994 (-2F) and hasn't hit -5F or colder since 1943 (-8F). It used to regularly go below 0F every few years and now it's quite rare in NYC, due to the combo of the urban heat island getting worse and global warming.

Interesting that the 30's showed the lowest temperatures. At the same, time the 30's were noted for the Dust Bowl and extremely hot weather. Apparently a decade of extremes

This winter takes me back to the 1980s/90s with the consistent cold temps. It's like we forgot what a real winter was like down here in Delaware after being up in CT the past 23 years....
Growing up in East Brunswick through the 80s, the winters were routinely cold enough to allow for ice skating on the pond at the library/municipal complex. Did that for years.
