Man I've been listening to a ton of Kobe camp, instruction & interviews. He has to be hands down the most intelligent Hooper to ever play the game. I'm sorry it's taken me this long to realize how truly special & smart he was

He goes in depth on what he attacked, where he attacked & why he attacked whether it be foot positions, players & situations.

He gave a scenario where this player(didnt name him) just signed this gigantic team leading contract and instead of doubling the franchise guy they doubled the guy that was in contract discussions that wasnt getting the big payday. His reasoning they didnt want him to get the ball and he would create discord on the team as the big contract guy was hogging the ball and he wasnt getting the rock. Totally to upset the team dynamic. So many more crazy great instructionals.

That dude was so incredibly smart

Kobe was awesome and very motivating.

Good listen is the value entertainment podcast he did a few months before his death. YouTube version below

Was it also explained why he reportedly attacked (and at the very least admittingly committing adultery with) a 19 year old in 2003 and was arrested for it?
Just gotta rain down on a BASKETBALL post.
You want to delve into go into current events

it was during BASKETBALL season (on a road trip) and he was a BASKETBALL player who most likely used his BASKETBALL fame to commit adultery and/or rape. I find it hard to put people on a pedestal who do that. Plus it's not really a current event. Plus I dont delve into the CE cesspool. I apologize for dragging down your OP.
Clutch pearls much?
Is that a southwest hobby?

I always rooted against kobe because I didn’t like him and hated to see him win. He did have games where he was just throwing up shots, but credit to him in that he’d always shoot through cold streaks

With hindsight, I respect his skill, commitment, intensity and cerebral approach to the game. I do think he deserves some criticism for not making it work with shaq, however.

The one game I don’t think I’ll ever get over was game 7 against the Boston Celtics, NBA finals, Kobe goes 6 for 24 and the lakers still win. SMH… that was brutal.

Equating rape with adultery is ridiculous. What percentage of NBA players do you think commit adultery (a lot), and who the hell cares?

The rape case was dropped, but I guess court of public opinion is more important than the actual judicial system...

Ummmm..I never equated it. In my original post I clearly stated he reportedly attacked the 19 year old (with a rape claim and arrest) and at the very least admitted to adultery. Yeah..the rape case was dropped when the woman wouldnt testify I think, but there was a civil suit which resulted in a settlement which sure sounds like hush money. And great, because many NBA players commit adultery, "who cares?" in your book? Wow. Hope your daughters or grand daughters don't marry an NBA player or other individuals at high risk for fooling around. Their husbands are sure going to appreciate your leniency in that regard if they do.

You care about professional athletes cheating on their wives. Get over yourself. Pretty sure non athletes cheat too. Your daughter might get cheated on regardless of how much it offends you.

Oh and you said “adultery and/or rape”. You are definitely lumping a violent, heinous, felonious act in with a moral offense. Don’t get hurt dismounting your high horse tonight.

I could be wrong but you give off a “someone I love cheated on me” vibe. He was an NBA superstar, he was not going to be faithful. I would say the same if he was a high powered politician, a rock star, any other kind of pro athlete, the local barber, your next door neighbor, etc. Go on a business trip.

To try to slander Kobe for getting some strange is weird.

I wanted to discuss Kobe because it seems like because of his tragic death, he tends to be overrated. Some even have him above LeBron and Jordan at this point. Definitely one of the greatest but I feel like 3rd all time is over rating him, but then I ask myself who would I rate above him? Idk really, I guess Larry Bird or Dr j or one of those guys but I've never seen those guys play so I feel fake putting them on my list. So I guess Kobe is 3rd best, It was just hard too watch so many missed shots and not be critical.

But of course there are people who want to piss in everyone's Cheerios lol. "You know Kobe was accused of rape" omg lol there's no point in saying that except to assert your moral high ground and establish that you're a better person than all of us willing to discuss Kobe Bryant. First of all the woman dropped the charges, you can say the settlement was hush money, I can say I don't see Kobe Bryant having to rape women. But idk which is why I'll go with the information available to us. Idk what way you lean politically but your boy Trump has like 10 rape accusations, hush money etc. If you lean Democrat you think Biden didn't know his son was doing lines with hookers and going live on Instagram with pistols? Lol maybe not the going live on Instagram but he knew his son was living like a legend before we knew. Don't hold athletes to higher standards than we hold our politicians to..

Hard to argue Kobe was better than MJ or Lebron. I don't see it particularly close. And forget about Bird and Dr J, if we are doing historic you have to put Kareem and Wilt and Russell above him as well. Not to mention I think Curry is above him now too. And if I'm taking a player off those Laker teams it is Shaq in his prime not Kobe. All that said he was an amazing talent and gone too soon.

The criminal case was dropped. The victim got doxxed and received many death threats and did not want to proceed.
Kobe paid her out millions to settle the civil case.

Kobe
great player, not so great person?
As for the not so nice part, I'll keep quite because after checking out ( google) his sexual assault charge I'm not sure of what to say.
But can say he was one of the best.
One name I might feel is the G.O.A.T. , if not Jordan, is Bill Russell.

Disgusting and vile that anyone would do that to any alleged victim - but again, that’s other people doing that, not the accused.

I agree, settling in many cases is a step below an admission of guilt - but to declare unequivocally that the man is a rapist seems a bridge too far for me.

Lol!! Who pissed in your Cheerios? I could care less if they choose to cheat on their wives. That doesnt mean I can't have an opinion on how shitty I think about the committed act. No high horse here. Just an elevated sense of right/wrong and not forgiving it just because "everyone does it". Your moral turpitude on this matter is quite intriguing though.

Not at all...But there was a time when I was a freshman at RU and my girlfriend at home was spotted walking in the hallways in high school, holding hands with someone. Maybe that haunts me still? It is a true story but to answer your question, never happened to me. And it hasn't happened to me or immediate members of my family to my knowledge. And yes, it could happen in all kinds of demographics and be very prevalent. But that doesnt mean it should be an acceptable thing to do just because the masses engage.

Who made an unequivocal declaration that he was a rapist?

Fair enough but the OP was about how intelligent Kobe was as a basketball player. That’s undeniable. To head off in a tangent about infidelity would be better suited for a conversation about Kobe’s qualities as a husband.

Nah. Why waste valuable time asking about the woman whose story kept changing, was on meds that are used to treat schizophrenia and ultimately decided not to testify leading to the criminal case being dismissed only to file a civil lawsuit because she saw a quick payday after her American Idol dream flopped?

He was an idiot for getting married. Im not sure why people get married in their early 20s. Not sure why NBA players get married at all. Bank it, snip it, kill it.

I'd say Bird would be the other one in the GOAT conversation, but Jordan was be 1A for sure regardless having watched NBA since the early 80s. Russell was the sports all-time ultimate winner, Wilt & Shaq were the sport's most dominating physical forces ever, Bird was the GOAT up until Jordan took over, but no one I've seen since has taken the #2 mantle from Bird yet, and I'd say that list after Jordan and Bird includes Magic, Lebron, Shaq, Kobe, Curry, Olajuwon, Wilt, Russell in no particular order.

My worthless opinion is Bird is behind Magic and they are both a good bit behind the top 5 of MJ LeBron Russell Jabbar and Wilt.

She got so many death threats that she didn't want to testify.

I don’t know what happened in 2003
That said Kobe redeemed himself after that incident. His mentorship to both young men and women is well documented and impactful.

Not saying what he did was right, but I wish all the politicians, Supreme Court justices and men of the cloth was held to the same standard.

I do remember her claiming she was receiving death threats. I don't remember law enforcement confirming those threats.

Also, those death threats did not deter her from filing a civil lawsuit so she could get paid.

Kobe changed his story as well but you coul be right. Everything you mentioned above might trump the physical evidence supplied by police and medical professionals which documented vaginal trauma consistent with non-consensual, recent intercourse, bruises and blood stained clothing.
