OT: N.J. weather: Snow in forecast along with 50 mph winds, Arctic blast of cold air

Wow, another thread by the OP that I'd get a ton of crap for starting (thread should also state minimal snow). This is a non-issue, snow-wise with <1" for almost everyone, with a dusting or a coating to 1/2" for most, although unlikely on paved surfaces with temps slightly above 32F for most. The big winds on Thursday with 40-50 mph gusts for all are more of an issue as there could be isolated downed trees/power lines and power outages.

I actually appreciate the concise post. Gives me all I need to know. Bundle up and wear gloves/headgear for the commute to JC. Holiday party is Thursday night. 😀

For the record, I don't mind weather threads by anyone, in general, as I love talking about the weather. I'm simply commenting on the unusual response to this one and the last one started by Tango promising a snowstorm for our area last week, which didn't come close to verifying, except for areas above about 1000' in NWNJ/NEPA/Catskills. I would have been skewered for starting threads for snow of <1" for the vast majority of our area. I also think the title should say "minor snowfall possible" or something like that rather than "snow in forecast" which kind of implies a more substantial snowfall.

But since we now have a thread, might as well add a comment or two. There were actually some flurries around today - saw a flake or two around 6 pm here and there was a decent snow shower a few miles from here in Edison around then. Central Park in NYC got its first flakes of the year (just a trace, i.e., not measurable) and parts of NWNJ/Lehigh Valley got up to 1/2" in some snow squalls this afternoon.

Latest models showing 1/2-1" north of about I-80 in PA/NJ eastward to about 287 and then north of 287 in NY with even more possible well to the N and W, i.e., N of I-84. Looking like <1/2" south of 80 and maybe little to no accumulation south of 78 and along 95, but with such small amounts of precip, even a tiny error in the temperature profile or precip amounts could make the difference between nada and 1/2-1" of snow almost anywhere (remember 1" of snow is only 0.1" of rainfall equivalent, which is not much).

I still have flashbacks to the November 15th storm around 2018. My team was remote at the time since we were doing construction in our building. I brought them all in on that day for a Thanksgiving lunch. What a disaster. Never thought a small amount of snow would cause problems. I may be wrong but think that snow was bad because it got cold quickly and what fell was very slippery. I can see that with this one.

As the saying goes, it’s not the size that matters. 😀

Latest from the NWS. Could be up to an inch or so N of 78 from snow showers tonight into early Thursday (and 2-3" in the Poconos) with 1/2" or less likely S of 78, mostly on grassy/colder surfaces and not roads given temps in the 34-36F range south of 78. Still, it's likely to be the first accumulating snow for the vast majority of the region (albeit very minor). The bigger story will likely be the high winds and gusts especially Thursday morning, where a wind advisory is up for 45-50 mph wind gusts for most.

One of my favorite storms, which overperformed a bit, especially vs. most forecasts of 1-3" of snow, as we ended up with 4-7" of heavy wet snow falling for most in this region - several models, though were showing the heavier amounts but were ignored. Link to the thread on that storm is below if you want to relive it.

This wasn't a "small amount of snow" though, but it being a surprise for most and not hitting hard until late morning/early afternoon on a Thursday and then piling up quickly, with workplaces sending folks home early, it led to a traffic nightmare.

But there's zero chance this storm becomes like the Nov-18 storm, as there's simply not enough moisture to work with and there are no models showing more than 1" of snow anywhere near the 95 corridor, unlike 2018, when multiple models were showing 4-8" for 95 for 2-3 days before the storm. The absolute worst imaginable case for this storm for the 95 corridor is an inch or so of snow with much of it not sticking on roads and that's a far cry from 2018.

Non event. Light dusting of snow then some rain. Pavement just wet now. I thought it was going to be colder today. And wind only starts later. It was getting windy in Bergen last night so I guess I expected more. All my associate up north have a good snow event in MA and NH right now.

So went out just after midnight to put out the recyclables, and we already had an inch on the ground. Wet, heavy stuff, but was sticking on the roads. Well, partially, not in all areas. That turned out to be about the extent of it, had just a little more than that this morning when I cleaned off the car. Wasn't really very windy at that point either.

Thanks for the heads up! Always appreciate weather reports from you and Bac.
Funniest post of the year. But you slipped up when you slammed his last thread as a bust when you didn't realize he started it, lol. Your troll game needs a tune-up. Maybe I'll post a weather pattern thread to give you a chance to redeem yourself.

I am sorry, nothing you can post - pattern or otherwise - will ever be as absurd as the heat wave threads he posts! 😄

You must have read that one incorrectly. Bac posted that we got no snow or rain, so I replied with the "bust". I was agreeing with him. Maybe you have trolling PTSD? Not everything is a troll. :)

You were lucky. One of my guys lives in Staten Island. Took him 6 hours from Jersey City. Probably took me 2 hours via train/car to get back to northwest Bergen.

Today was luckily a non event. Did anyone get high winds? Was essentially a slight breeze in JC today.
Sunny and nice out down the shore. @koleszar 's snowblower is whimpering for attention.
Is it out of the box yet?

I'd wish it would snow so I couldn't work. Rather than whipping wind at 40 mph in 36 degrees up my ass. It was miserable today.

Is it out of the box yet?

Wind hasn't hit 50mph here in SE Monmouth but get up to 45 which was more than enough.
As mentioned in a previous thread, I already prepped mine for the season.

So our immediate area should be good.

Can’t do anything about the wind though. Sorry.

And my new flags from Kempton on 34 are staying in the box until the wind dies down.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get your driveway plowed for the one real storm every five years or so you get than to buy and maintain a snowblower?

Hell, you could rent that space in your garage and make money on the deal!

I know I'm unique, but I wanted one to dig out the animals on my small farm. I have a front loader, but I can admit I'm not great at it. So, by time I got done digging out my 150 yd. stone driveway and fields out to the barns/run ins I was left with a WW I battle site. Stone everywhere in the grass and divots with piles of dirt strewn across the fields. It would take a day or two just to fix in the spring and got tired of it.
