OT: New Music (Released January 2020 or Later)

Got home put Youtube on, been listening to some Billie Eilish.

There was a discussion regarding what makes her popular?

She has a good voice but I think it's just the sincerity. It's definitely not cheesy pop.

She began recording in her small bedroom with her brother doing the tech.
Singing in such a small room is where she picked-up the soft, low volume style.
Now it seems like every singer is imitating that style (including Swift).
She did "Ocean Eyes" at 13 yrs old.
I've never heard her sing an "anthem" type song the TV competition shows made popular

This thread needs to be preserved for historical value.

I scanned teh first page that popped up for me.. which was awhile back there now.. and I found at least 3 bands and several covers that I really enjoyed. Not everything of course... but that's what it's all about... CHOICE.

Thanks all.

New, interesting cinematic video from Tremonti, Mark Tremonti's band- he is also in Creed and other bands. Very talented guitarist. Interesting message too on the song:
“Throughout mankind, everyone has fought over things like power, religion, and their beliefs. One side believes it’s right and everyone else is wrong. No matter what you believe in though, we all belong to the earth. You can always fall back on its beauty.”

It makes me sick to see somebody play guitar like him. I'm insanely jealous.
I came across Richie when he joined up with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater Drums) and Billy Sheehan (bass in Mister Big), which is a fabulous supergroup. Richie also had a short stint with Poison.

Tagging @RUGuitarMan , as he may enjoy Richie's new single.

I often have the thought that if Soundgarden ever reunited (which, I doubt they should or will), Richie would be an adequate singer to cover for Chris Cornell, but nobody will ever match Chris' vocal abilities. Chris was also a very talented guitar player too.

Yes, I do like this song. I like Kotzen’s singing and playing. I like the fact that he uses a Telecaster and isn’t one of these super “shred” players. I’m familiar with some of his music , I have to do a deeper dive into his music. I’ve read a bit about him. It’s interesting, there are a number of musicians, guitar players like Richie Kotzen and Jerry Cantrell who I like and respect , who cite the rock band KISS as an early influence. I’m older and my tastes were formed by earlier , more roots based rock bands. I always thought KISS was mostly schtick and less substance but they definitely appealed to some younger players (than myself) that I like.

I never got Kiss, but I like their hits/anthems. I saw a double bill with Alice in Chains with the new singer opening for Kiss. It was a good show, and Kiss' theatrics were fun. Fun fact - Peter Criss lives in same town as me. He purchased my father's white Steinway grand piano. My father made a living as a lounge musician.

Lots of good stuff on here. Rather than quote everyone’s post individually….
  • Nice call on Dirty Honey. They just played near me. The opening band is named Feel. Very good.
  • Love Kotzen a lot. Someone mentioned him not being a shred player. He actually started as one for Shrapnel records at like age 17. He even had a VHS tutorial video back in the day on shredding techniques. Ha. Who knew he could sing too.
  • That supergroup that Knight Shift mentioned is Winery Dogs. I also dig those guys. I have another record where Kotzen teamed up with Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden. Decent but not great.
  • Someone also mentioned Cornell. Check out a band named Crobot. I always thought that guy could pull off Cornell. He’s got some pipes.
  • Not sure if anyone cares for country at all, but I’ve been listening to a bunch of 49 Winchester recently.

I have Crobot's first album. @RUGuitarMan has helped me broaden my musical horizons. I can't bang my head and rock out to punk when I am 80 or 90, can I? Sure I can!!!!

I was with you until the country part, but as for the rest:

New album by Warren Haynes, a song originally started by Greg Allman prior to his death. Lyrics were finished by Haynes and also features Derek Trucks on guitar. Really beautiful song:

You always can be counted on to post a good tune.
BTW, one problem with a tune like that is I'm always trying to imagine Greg singing it and Duane playing guitar on it.
Also, I prefer Whipping Post. 😎

I’m pretty eclectic when it comes to music; everything from ‘30s delta blues, to Big Band, to early rock and roll, mowtown, folk, pop, etc. Gracie Abrams is generally considered pop but I’m fine with that. This song is, in my opinion, awesome. This version was recorded live recently. I really appreciate live music in this day and age of over-produced, autocorrected, lip synch BS.

Just came across mark Knopfler’s latest solo album, One Deep River. Mellow but his guitar playing is still tight and his voice still sounds good Would recommend it

Never heard of this band, Circa Waves. Cool song from upcoming album.

Also- had no idea Ian Hunter (of Mott the Hoople (All the Young Dudes) and solid solo work) is still making music at 85 years old.
