OT: New Music (Released January 2020 or Later)

It makes me sick to see somebody play guitar like him. I'm insanely jealous.

Yes, I do like this song. I like Kotzen’s singing and playing. I like the fact that he uses a Telecaster and isn’t one of these super “shred” players. I’m familiar with some of his music , I have to do a deeper dive into his music. I’ve read a bit about him. It’s interesting, there are a number of musicians, guitar players like Richie Kotzen and Jerry Cantrell who I like and respect , who cite the rock band KISS as an early influence. I’m older and my tastes were formed by earlier , more roots based rock bands. I always thought KISS was mostly schtick and less substance but they definitely appealed to some younger players (than myself) that I like.

Lots of good stuff on here. Rather than quote everyone’s post individually….
  • Nice call on Dirty Honey. They just played near me. The opening band is named Feel. Very good.
  • Love Kotzen a lot. Someone mentioned him not being a shred player. He actually started as one for Shrapnel records at like age 17. He even had a VHS tutorial video back in the day on shredding techniques. Ha. Who knew he could sing too.
  • That supergroup that Knight Shift mentioned is Winery Dogs. I also dig those guys. I have another record where Kotzen teamed up with Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden. Decent but not great.
  • Someone also mentioned Cornell. Check out a band named Crobot. I always thought that guy could pull off Cornell. He’s got some pipes.
  • Not sure if anyone cares for country at all, but I’ve been listening to a bunch of 49 Winchester recently.

For the Kotzen fans, Richie teams up with Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden for another new album. Not a huge Iron Maiden fan, but really like Adrian Smith's vocals on this, and he trades verses with Richie, who is channeling Chris Cornell here. Very solid song, and looking forward to the album due on March 7, 2025

Some of you know that I'm in the band "Jasmine Tea". (jasmineteamusic dot com) and on every streaming site. Anyway, here's my latest song called "I Want To Live On Mars". (That's me on drums, bass, and guitars, and me singing too...Oh and I wrote it too! woohoo). And for all you oldtimers out there, John Sebastian recorded with us on two songs...Magical Connection and Miss Opportunity. John plays a terrific harmonic on Miss Opportunity.

Good stuff. Just out of curiosity, how die the Sebastian connection happen?

Our drummer knows many high profile musicians because he often has to attend trade shows because he works in the recording industry. John Sebastian is a great guy. Most people don't know that his father was a world renowned harmonica player, as is John. That's John on Roadhouse Blues by The Doors...(and our song Miss Opportunity)

Late to the party on this one. Hardy is billed as a "country" music artist. Apparently the 2024 album is more of a rock sound, but took a listen to some older stuff, and it's not the twangy country or "Americana" that is billed as country music or rock/country. This song is in heavy rotation on WRAT out of Pt Pleasant/Lake Como.

This is like a combination of Cake and They Might Be Giants.
I was going to tag you when I posted this. That is a great combination. Ironically, as I type this, Birdhouse in Your Soul is playing on Altrok. We saw TMBG a couple of years ago at Asbury Lanes. They had part of Conan O'Brien's band horn section playing with Mark Pender on trumpet. Was a great show and the horns were a great addition.

And after typing all that, I thought the band consisted of members of both bands, which it does not!

Not "new" really, but not big. There's band named Yarn I've been listening to for years and hoping they would break through. They're actually playing a few NJ shows coming up. Might be just the singr doign acoustic shows and not the full band. Either way, they're great. If you live nearby, check them out!

New Yarn--quick listen, seems a little Allmans Brotheresque (they say this on their website) with a rocking country flair. Good stuff. I like the guitars-even if they are not using a whammy bar and turned up to 11 (I'm a metal head, but love all kinds of music).

Nice. Glad you dig it. I'm also a metal guy at heart, but have branched out to everything over the years.

There is a drummer based out of New Orleans-- Stanton Moore. His band is called Galactic. Galactic is a blend funk, jazz, and rock. Horns, bombastic singer, heavy organ sound. I came to "know" Stanton when he played on Corrosion of Conformity's (COC) 2005 album In the Arms of God, when their drummer was sidelined with medical issues (he subsequently passed away at 53). Their regular drummer was a solid drummer, but Stanton took the album over in a way that Bonzo in Led Zeppelin and Neil Peart in Rush tended to do on certain songs. So I started following him, and we checked out Galactic live last year, and he is incredibly versatile and a fun drummer to watch.
Galactic is on a mini tour with stops in Philly and Brooklyn Jan 23- Feb. 1.

Stanton is drumming on COC's upcoming album, which they are recording now. Anyway, my musical taste is open to anything that rocks, swings, is funky, and/or has solid lyrics.

Never heard of this band from the Netherlands, making music since 1981. Clan of Xymox. It's the 1980s!!! Heard on Brookdale's Altrok! Their genre is dark wave!

Saw Dweezil Zappa last night. Man, his band is soooooo tight and incredible. If you're a fan of Frank (not for everyone I know) and haven't seen these guys, do yourself a favor.

New radio friendly Killswitch...

Bit tame/safe for my taste

Think you may like this. Category 7-heavy metal collective featuring the all-star lineup of John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob, Sonic Universe, Noturnall), Phil Demmel (Machine Head, Kerry King, Vio-Lence), Jack Gibson (Exodus), and Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, Overkill).

These guys rip. Have always like John Bush's vocals. Mostly from Anthrax, but just saw an old clip of Armored Saint on Headbangers Ball on MTV Classic. Had not realized that Metallica had invited Bush to sing early on, and Bush turned them down to stay in Armored Saint. James did OK as a vocalist though. 😉
