OT: New Music (Released January 2020 or Later)

Think you may like this. Category 7-heavy metal collective featuring the all-star lineup of John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob, Sonic Universe, Noturnall), Phil Demmel (Machine Head, Kerry King, Vio-Lence), Jack Gibson (Exodus), and Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, Overkill).

These guys rip. Have always like John Bush's vocals. Mostly from Anthrax, but just saw an old clip of Armored Saint on Headbangers Ball on MTV Classic. Had not realized that Metallica had invited Bush to sing early on, and Bush turned them down to stay in Armored Saint. James did OK as a vocalist though. 😉

Pretty good. Definitely evident that these are older guys. Modern metal has a very different approach to the instrumentals.

Simple Minds hasn't toured US since 2017 and have never seen them. The Fixx has been on my bucket list for awhile

Still holding out for Human League but they only tour England and Europe
I always liked Human League and still do. The only group I think I saw from that era was The Tubes. Sorry if I'm wrong on the era. Saw them in Sacramento and it was memorable because the FM Converter bolted to the underside of my dashboard got stolen that night.

Sorry to be a grouch, but this is a new music thread. If you want to talk about tours of bands or 80's music, please start a new thread. This thread has remained on course for 5 years, and it would be nice to keep it that way. Too many threads get derailed.

Simple Minds has a new song out 12 days ago:

Modern English released a new song off their newest album 11 months ago.

Can someone help me out with interpreting these lyrics? Good art always has some ambiguity. I just like lines like "wizards of ineptitude" and references to jackalopes. @Knight Shift

I’ve heard some of this guy’s songs, he is a topical songwriter. Kind of fits for the times we are living in, a Dylanesque vibe. Speaking of @Knightshift, unless I missed something, I don’t think he has posted anything in quite some time. I hope he is in good health.

Digging the latest Crobot release ("Obsidian"). If you are into Soundgarden, Alice in Chains sound (like me), this PA band is worth checking out.
Great band from Pottstown!

New from Car Seat Headrest, led by Will Toledo. Funniest comment under a video in a long time:

"Will Toledo looks like the guy who asked 'What is the most you lost in a coin toss?'"!!!! Go to 1:09 of the video, and guess the movie reference!

Been trying to figure out what the song is about. Did he stop doing drugs and wants to do drugs again, or the opposite?
Dana, I don't get depressed anymore
Except possibly this December at the Delaware shore
Maybe missing numbers on the motel doors
The toy section at this drug store
Otherwise I’m pretty much cured
Been getting out of bed before noon now
Gonna find a new place pretty soon now
The whole thing's moving uptown
I'm sorry about the way that I scared you
I’m sorry that I wasn't in church since
Spent way too much time with people
Without any substance
I've dеcided I'm gonna push forward
I'm committed to making the changе
But you gotta remember
I never go out in the rain, and it's been raining all day

[Verse 2]
And my jacket got nicked from the coat check
The curtains can't keep out the gray
The umbrellas that you get at the drug store
Always blow the wrong way
Dana, I don't drink nearly as much
One or two nights of the week at the most
I know I used to be such a monster
The city’s still lousy with ghosts
I’m sorry about that fight in the taxi
Y'know, that probably just wasn’t my night
If you'd just agree to come see me
I could try to make it all right
I've decided I'm gonna back off now
Heard you turned that old boy into a husband
Now you’re out in the county
Hanging out with some people of substance

[Instrumental break]

[Verse 3]
Dana, I'm done with the breakdowns
But the winter's pretty weird at the shore
You never really told me what it was
You cut me off for, and I'm still not sure
So I've decided that I'd call and just check in
If I was good enough for you back then
You shouldn't be ashamed to bring me around
To your new friends
I've been asking around
For some sort of system to trust in
Maybe you could put me in touch
With some people of substance

Spent way too much time with people
Without any substance

I haven't dug too deeply yet, but I know from reviews it's a concept album about self-mprovement and redemption. This song seems to be about surrounding yourself with better people.
