A more intimate setting: Significantly smaller crowds — designed for a maximum capacity of 35,000, more than 12,000 fewer than the current Ryan Field, with a state-of-the-art canopy designed to focus noise and light on the field;

Good. I went to Evanston last year. Dump of a stadium and horrible campus. Only thing saving it is the lake.
It was renovated in the early 90s but is probably in need of a refresh - good for them. Evanston is a great town and NW is a great school. And apparently you haven’t been to their downtown law school and medical school campuses. Can you resist the urge to be a dick when you post?

I loved the old stadium. Certainly not a dump. Classic place. Just because something isn't modern doesn't make it a dump.
True. It was called Dyche Stadium at one time and renovated in the 90s with Ryan money. It’s time for a refresh but it’s pretty cool that the stadium is in the middle of a neighborhood. Very old school.

I never met anyone that graduated from there that I didn’t find snooty. But their sports teams don’t bother me much. Fitzgerald is a good coach . Looks like a cool stadium .

Interesting decision to go down to 35k. Quite small for a power 5 school. But likely will create a much better home environment with the smaller capacity at 80% vs the existing at 60% .

looks like it’ll be one of the most modern and NFL like stadiums on any college campus.

and the most incredible part is that it’s fully privately funded via donations ?!? Wow. Good for them.

Lowering capacity is the only way to go when there is a low ceiling to your home fanbase. Oddly, Rutgers has such a high ceiling for potential fans, that no one would want to lower capacity here.

Boy, whoever called Northwestern's campus horrible . . . SMH (and I've lived in Evanston). Their graduates are no more "snooty" than anyone else's. Most people would kill to go to such a prestigious school in such a good location -- the town is charming and the Chicago Loop is only an el ride away. Anyway, the whole thing is being funded by a single large donation. The stadium will be on the current site. It's not at all clear where Northwestern will play while the stadium is under construction. Soldier Field is a possibility, but there is no way that stadium can handle Saturday and Sunday games. https://chicago.suntimes.com/2022/9/28/23377919/northwestern-football-stadium-ryan-field-evanston

Will the Bears still be in Soldier Field while construction is taking place?

Horrible campus?? My wife graduated from NU and I've visited the campus often. To call NU's campus horrible compared to the staid, unimaginative, cookie-cutter architecture at Rutgers is almost laughable.

Now, now - let's not go too far about Rutgers Sir Can of Tomato.
She was probably over his shoulder as he typed that, “You tell ‘em, honey. Even if we didn’t want them in the first place.”😝

Plenty of people on this board are dicks to our OC and QBs... Why is my opinion muzzled by you and theirs allowed to be shared freely? Frankly I think Gleeson has called good games given the challenges with the all new OL and having to use a 3rd string QB.

And yes, Northwestern is a dump.

If not for the lake then yes horrible. No vibe whatsoever unless the library is your thing

800 million for 35k seats ??? - sounds like they are dealing with the same North Jersey unions that created the horrible new Giants Stadium.
getting the job done right does cost more.
Too often going on the cheap winds up costing more in the long run.

That argument is a stretch. I’m not muzzling you, but if you’re still going to be a dick, then I’m gonna remind you that you’re being a dick. Life is better when you’re not a dick.

800MM. That’s crazy money. Two-and-a-half decades after a 115MM south Endzone, the public is still bitching about the Renovation.

Why am I not entitled to my opinion? Like I said. I hope you keep that same energy when someone is calling out Gleeson or one of our QBs.

So off base. You can have your opinion but be prepared for blowback if people have a different experience than you. Not sure what the Gleeson-QB discussion has to do with this at all.

I literally got no blowback except you randomly calling me a dick out of nowhere. Stop making up drama when there is none. Evanston is the worst B1G town/campus. Fact.

Most folks in this thread disagree with you about NW, its campus and Evanston. Re-read it.

That's pretty funny. Any B1G town is better than New Brunswick.

I mean considering the average age of the board is 65 I am not surprised the library is their favorite place
Here we go. As a youthful representative of Rutgers Nation, shouldn’t you be more tolerant? Ageism is a bad look for you. You know, those old people you’re making fun of kept Shi Stadium from becoming a giant flower pot or American Dream 2 after the Shea era. I repeat, life is easier if you decide to be less of a dick.
