OT: New York Mets 2022-2023 Off Season Thread

Phils signed Taijuan Walker, 4 year deal. Waiting to hear money amounts

Edit: 71 or 72 million for 4 years
This is going to bite the Mets in the arse. I trusted him more than Carrasco.

In news of lesser import, Adorable Adonis Medina will no longer be making the Syracuse to NYC commute. Signed to a minor league deal by the Brewskis.

Ok- Turner 300 mil forever contract off the board. What do we do next? My gut says Nimmo is leaving

My apologies to the nice Mets fans on here. And there are many of you. But one of your brethren wants to have ridiculous conversations on the Yankees Thread. Yet he says he never posts on their. Also @yesrutgers01 just said he wasn't a troll but I'm sure he will back 2008 and prove he isn't a baseball fan but a troll. So it's not going to be fun on either thread. Thought their was a truce. Haven't been on this thread since the beginning but 2 Mets friends want to act like children.
I agreed with yesrutgers c/p in the yankee thread about so much misinformation about Judge, being signed, being a Yankees or Giants fan and you within seconds said "the turd is back", how else would I respond. Have your usual lonely holiday season, look around, there must be a reason. I didn't post in the Yankees thread the whole regular season, that's a fact until The 3 Amigos instantly bashed the Mets after losing to the Padres. Those are the facts, and yes, just hitting the like button on a negative post about you brings out your angry life. "My apologies" what a douchy remark, lmfao, fool. So now that your in, go make an arse of yourself,I've got the popcorn ready.

I already know that teams will not trade with him for reasons. But for an owner who everyone thought that he was going to spend like a drunken sailor, the only thing he really splurged on were Lindor, Diaz, and two very old Cy Young pitchers. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mean, he signed the best reliever in the NL and the AL’s current cy young winner.

And yet- no one says anything when SD has 2 300mil guys, Soto and offered Turner 300+

Part of the point is that there would be investigations or ESPN/ Dan Patrick exposes if Cohen spent like the Padres, Dodgers, even the Phillies.

No problem with Diaz since he earned that contract after his start in Ny. Mets were built for the three aces to win series like that last series in Atlanta last season and couldn’t win 1 out of three. Without getting any bats, don’t know if the same formula will work again in 23.

Cohen faces an uphill battle with the rest of the league. He wants to play by the rules, but they seem to change all the time to ensure Cohen stays in "a time out." If he spends like a drunken sailor, everyone cries foul. On the flip side, I feel a lot of players are nervous about playing in NYC. Therefore, they use the Mets to gain a better payday from teams with less pressure to succeed. On a side note, I don't like the front office of Eppler and Alderson. They seem to be a step slow in everything they do. Also, it's Cohen's money to spend. Not ours.

Taillon to the Cubs. Mets were interested as well. Putting a lot of eggs in the Senga basket. Was surprised to see Walker get more than Taillon even though I figure they would be close.

I think Nimmo is a goner. They are talking to Kiermaier for CF but that's a below average bat even though his D is great.

my gut tells me Nimmo is gone too- that sucks. They may pivot in the OF and bring in both Kiermaier and give Conforto a 1 year shot. I could live with that for now.

The problem with Nimmo is that supposedly Boras won’t give the Mets the opportunity to match an offer. The salaries are insane and teams are desperate. Someone will overpay.

ICYMI (and somewhat OT) - Judge to Yankees. Nine years, $360MM. That's a $40MM AAV. He played SF and will play for NY

I can't believe those reports are accurate. It is not Boras' style to put it mildly. If what you say is true, it is Nimmo not Boras who gave the order.

I believe, he legally has to present an offer to Nimmo if the Mets make one. Even if it is just matching. Unless Nimmo has told him if a team goes 5/120 - take it and don’t even call the Mets.

No it's Boras MO to not allow teams to match. He just recently reiterated that with the Xander negotiations.

SAN DIEGO -- If the Red Sox are hopeful of getting a chance to match or top the last best offer presented to free agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts, that's unlikely to happen.

Scott Boras, who represents Bogaerts, was asked whether the Sox would get the courtesy of matching what's on the table, said: "We're not the matching kind. We let teams know they have to assert, we don't ever hold back from reaching an agreement with any teams and certainly, we don't give market preference to anyone. I think the free agent right would be damaged.''

that is a lot of money for a 4/5 type guy. Only thing good is that he can eat up innings.
So, we now have Max/Verlander/Carrasco/Quintana/Peterson
Not horrible but need the top 2 to stay healthy.
Would like a Senga type signing now.
And get the bullpen help.
Think about Walker was a 4/5 with us last season and got 18 million a year for 4 years.

Nice signing as a mid rotation piece. If they add one more SP like Senga I would be very happy the replacements we brought in for losing deGrom/Walker/Bassitt.

Some work to do with the pen and bats and I still think they give opportunities to Vientos, Baty, Alvarez out of ST or within the first few months.

Looked at his 2022 stats. My favorite stat is 32 starts.
he has been a very consistent 30+ start guy his whole career. I don't mind him as our 4 or 5 but we cannot have our old men get hurt for any length of time. $$$ seems high but 2023 salaries for FA's are crazy. LAst year, it seemed everyone was lowballed but this is a player year for sure.

What about Tylor Megill? I don't like him coming out of the BP. He's better as a starter.
