No state income tax really helps, especially for someone trying to maximize every penny (which sounded like DeGrom’s POV).deGrom is reportedly an anti-vaxxer, so I am not surprised he wanted to go to a red state. I am fairly certain that Nimmo will follow him to another red state as well.
I wonder what the terms of the option year are. If it's a vesting option, I assume it kicks in if Verlander meets certain performance metrics.
We already mentioned. 2024 he has to pitch 140 innings and it kicks in.I wonder what the terms of the option year are. If it's a vesting option, I assume it kicks in if Verlander meets certain performance metrics.
Doubt Jake pitches 140 innings a year. I love this dealOh OK. So...
If Verlander doesn't pitch 140 innings in 2024, then the contract expires. If he does, then he has the option to return in 2025 for $35M.
Did you ever think deGrom wanted to leave? Of course not, it wouldn't fit the $hit you and kbee are trying to sell. Go sell crazy somewhere else and hope Judge stays, because I'll be over to talk, lolI agree with this. Cohen has tons of money. Signing degrom isn't preventing them from signing another pitcher or player.
Nonsense to think this doesn't hurt them in October
Mets fans are delusional.
They don't want to pay degrom but are cheering given 40yr old verlander 50million a year
If he hits 140 he's definitely returning for the 3rd year. The option kicks in at that point.Oh OK. So...

That doesn't sound right. If it's a player option, which locks in at 140 innings, then Verlander is actually giving something up by reaching the innings target. If he hits 140 he's definitely returning for the 3rd year. The option kicks in at that point.
It's not a player option. It's a vesting option. He gets his 3rd guaranteed year if he is healthy and good enough to hit the 140 IP.That doesn't sound right. If it's a player option, which locks in at 140 innings, then Verlander is actually giving something up by reaching the innings target.
Hot chestacles, don't remember Mrs. Seaver ever looking that good, lol.
Yippee!! Work day's so crap, my nephew (not a Mets fan) broke the news to me just now by text. At least I got him on the Celtics/Cowboys, but I'm still working on the Mets. :)Mets sign Verlander. 2 years $86 million. Vesting option for a 3rd year.
This explains a lot about degrom in 22.deGrom is reportedly an anti-vaxxer, so I am not surprised he wanted to go to a red state. I am fairly certain that Nimmo will follow him to another red state as well.
Hope Verlanders age don’t bite the Mets on the ass like degrom and Max. We’ll see.Curious on how you guys feel about this
This would be my concern if I were a Met fan.Hope Verlanders age don’t bite the Mets on the ass like degrom and Max. We’ll see.
Hope they get someone better than Bassitt. Remember, the Mets rotation was built for that last weekend in Atlanta and they 💩 their pants that weekend. I hope history don’t repeat itself.
Mets putzing around with a 40 year old pitcher while the Phillies just punked themTrea Turner to Phillies. $300 million 11 years.
Rather have him than Verlander or deGrom and have him or Lindor play second.Trea Turner to Phillies. $300 million 11 years.
Yeah but they don't want to play 2B so we didn't even have a chance.Rather have him than Verlander or deGrom and have him or Lindor play second.
Thought I heard different about Turner. Guess not.Yeah but they don't want to play 2B so we didn't even have a chance.
You want Tre to pitch? Zero issue with Verlander on a 2 year deal with possible third year.Mets putzing around with a 40 year old pitcher while the Phillies just punked them
Agreed.Mets weren’t going 11-300 for Turner.
And 2B/SS not an area of need. So, rather have either deGrom or Verlander, get another mid level starter, load up on BP and if they can’t keep Nimmo- get an OF…
They have a great lineup but I still think they have some holes. Harper is out until at least the AS break which means you are playing both Castellanos and Schwarber in the OF which is not ideal defensively. Their bullpen is still a problem and Robertson is a FA. Obviously Turner is a huge upgrade for the middle infield and a real gamer which makes them better but they are not yet a complete team. Neither are the Mets for that matter and both the Mets and Phils have work to do to match the Braves.TT- to Phil’s does hurt though.
Their lineup is loaded. Would have rather see him go anywhere but NL east.
Marte is a better centerfielder than Nimmo. Marte was an all-star at that position. The knock on Nimmo is his lack of an arm. Runners like to take an extra base on balls in the gap. Still, the ideal situation is for Nimmo to stay because he's one heckuva lead-off guy.I like the Verlander deal. Just think they need a Trae Turner also…unless they seriously plan to keep Nimmo. If they lose Nimmo, it will be big for this team. Marte can’t play center anymore.
Certainly not ideal. A bright side is he's off the Dodgers.TT- to Phil’s does hurt though.

My next preference with Rodon not going to happen.
I don't think he is anymore. Agree about the arm though. Mets don't want Marte in CF even with Nimmo leaving.Marte is a better centerfielder than Nimmo. Marte was an all-star at that position.
