OT: New York Mets 2022-2023 Off Season Thread

Walker tails off in the second half of the season. If memory serves correctly that has happened the last 2 years
That’s true. But the whole team basically tailed off in the second half last season.🤷🏻‍♂️

The little talked about key to the Mets
Cohens casino pursuit. He gets casino near stadium , the 💰he makes off that will offset any payroll taxes paid after getting Ohtani next year 👀😳👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

ICYMI (and somewhat OT) - Judge to Yankees. Nine years, $360MM. That's a $40MM AAV. He played SF and will play for NY
As a Mets fan, I love, love, love this. With Judge's proven track record of postseason failures this extends the Ringless streak to at least 2031.

Traded with the Rays for RP Brooks Raley. Sent minor leaguer Keyshawn Askew.

Raley is a LHP and 34 already but had a good year last yr with Tampa. 2.68 ERA with a 0.969 WHIP. 10.2 K/9.

Askew played for both A ball teams last yr. An ok prospect who pitched well last year. Has an unusual arm angle.

Mets selected Zach Greene from the Yankees in the Rule V draft. Very good numbers in AAA last year. Will have to stay on the roster all year in order to keep him.

Did not lose Jake Mangum which is good to see.

That Yacabonis signing happened a few days ago, not today.

let's clarify something- Mets were 43-26 from the AS break on - still one of 2nd half records. They just happened to have Atl that was on a record pace.

You sometimes sound like one of the 3 amigos. Met's did blow the Atl series. and that is unforgivable. But they really didn't falter in the 2nd half. They did really well. Atl just did so much better

Yeah, forgive me for not being happy about last year after living through 1988, 2006, 2007, 2008 choke jobs, seeing Cespedes kick the ball in the OF first hit of the 2015 WS, Or giving away Thor’s Shutout in the 9th in the 2016 WC.

I’m born in 62 like the Mets and lifelong…
But for anyone to say the. Mets had a bad 2nd half- after AS break, is just wrong.
Their winning % after the break was very good. They just happened to have the Braves in their division.

100% correct. I was born in 1955 and have a little memory of that 1st Mets team and witnessed the Miracle Mets of 1969 as a Freshman in HS.

Xander Bogaerts has left Boston to sign with San Diego. Almost the same exact deal as Trea Turner. 11 years just 20 million less.
I’m too lazy to Google this but how much for Scam Diego have on their payroll? Shouldn’t they be over the Tax?

Not as high as you think. Tatis has a backloaded contract i think, soto is still in arbitration. I wouldnt be surprised if verlander/scherzer made more this year than soto/bogaerts/tatis/machado combined.
The padres sold their farm system though to acquire these players

Mangum ended up being the PTBNL for Elieser Hernandez so did end up losing him.

To the extent that we're trying to determine how MLB teams value Jake Mangum, we got a pretty good peak in the last couple of days. He was not chosen in the Rule 5 draft, suggesting strongly that no team believed that they could or would want to keep him on their roster next year. Then he became a player to be named later in a trade, meaning that a team was willing to take him only if they still had the option of parking him in the minors again.

He'll be 27 years old when the season starts. And I like his stick-to-it-iveness. I hope that he gets a spot on an MLB team eventually.

But here's hoping that the Mets are continuing to improve their minor league system.

All they needed to win the division was one game.
They also played one more road game against the braves, played houston 2 more times than the braves, played the yankees 4 more times than the braves.

The braves played through an amazing stretch, but had an easier schedule. The Mets didnt trail off. They crapped the bed at a couple key series, as the braves did vs the phillies in the playoffs.

Ill add that the degroms ineffectiveness was a big part of the bed crapping.

@Doctor Worm

You and MLB Trade Rumors site were correct about the option turning into a player option if Verlander pitches 140 innings and an independent physical determines there is no right arm injury that would keep him from 2025 Opening Day roster.
