OT: New York Yankees 2022-2023 Off Season Thread

Absolutely had to be done. To lose the face of the franchise over a year or two or $30, $40mm would have been a reputational hit Hal would not have been able to recover from.

I agree. Judge bailed them out too. He could have just taken the SF offer which was $60mill more then the Yankees. However, he gave them a chance to match.

Agree and it would be the next right move to put that C on his Jersey- you now know he is a lifetime Yankee- that is the next move that HAS to happen!

I just heard a report that Judge turned down offers that "were higher from elsewhere". Not sure of the details.

10 years 400 million lol

And again, if Judge does not live in NYC the difference on tax rates eats up well over half the difference. Not only is the top rate in Cali higher, but the top rates kick in millions of dollars lower than NYS.

I look forward to seeing Judge hit .150 again in the post season😩

In all seriousness, your team was forced to sign Judge otherwise a fan revolt would have occurred but your team would have been better off allocating the funds elsewhere to fill other needs.

There would have been no fan revolt at all. You can read this thread and see there would be no revolt. Many believe that the price would have been too high. At some point the price gets too high.

As long as they keep spending to fix the holes in the roster, keeping Judge is fine. If they're gonna cry about not having anymore money, then they should have just let him go and dealt with the fallout and started a rebuild.

"Revolt" may be a bit strong, but lagging ticket sales definitely would've been the result.

Judge could not have had any better (production) in a contract year than the one he just had. I mean, this could not have been scripted any more convincingly. So, everyone says, "You have to re-sign him!" But, I'm probably in the minority of Yankees fans that just thinks -- it was a great personal achievement (and likely did enough for the team to improve their season/post-season standings) but it didn't translate into the only thing that matters: a World Series. If he could have another 60 HR season next year, and the year after that, and the year after that, etc., then sure - great. But, he won't. And, the Yanks have tied themselves to another (beloved) power hitter that isn't going to deliver another championship. I rather they spent the money elsewhere (and I like Judge!).

Yankees losing to Astros again, followed by this RU FB season, followed by watching Judge go to SF would have been a triple play of pur awful.

Thankfully, we get a better ending. Excited for something sports related again!

A healthy Judge will most likely be in the 38-50 HR 100+ RBI and a great leader for at least the next 5-6 years. Health would be the only reason for less. And, he is good in the field and a smart player.

I don't see it that way. I think they would have had to spend more than $40mm to replace his production. They would have needed a top outfielder plus can't go with the kids at short, maybe Correa or another big name there.

But now what?

Still glaring holes. Hopefully, Hicks and Donaldson gone soon.

Then figure out what to do with Gleyber.

@RUfinally2008 LMAO
😂

You said he was leaving

All Rise!
Me, and 3/4 of your Yankees fans. I love he's staying, I so enjoyed all of you booing the shit out of him during the playoffs. He's a fool, after the season he had, the way you got all over his shit, you don't deserve him. With his playoff production, this pretty much cements no rings till at least 2031, love it. Anything less than 60+ you guys will boo the shit out of him again, enjoy in 2 years he'll be your Stanton 2.0. lmfao

You really don’t believe that

100% Yankees fans were saying he was leaving and were okay with it. Too much money tied up in one player and I tend to agree with them.
I never said I was okay with it. I repeatedly said "Pay the Man".
I also never booed Judge...nor do I know anyone who did.
I also said that the Metsies were foolish to let the best pitcher in baseball leave Queens.

It’s a brutal contract for the Yanks, and I’m a Yankee fan.

Oh well…no titles for another decade with Cashman at the helm..

If the Yankees stay healthy, there's no reason they can't win a world series. That's a big if though.

You can say that for 50% of the teams in MLB.

He assembles teams with players that can’t stay healthy. That’s a problem.
I get your point even if the 50 percent number is high. I'd say it's more like 25 percent.

I think one of the reasons for the high failure rate is a reliance on free agents who are hitting the market in their "prime" but in reality are just a year or 2 from the steady erosion of their skills. Until they build up young kids at the offensive positions (I'm looking at you 3b and 1b) I expect more failure than success at winning a W.S. It could definitely still happen though.

Way too early projected Yankees lineup by Fansided:
1.Andrew Benintendi-LF
2.DJ LeMahieu-3B
3.Aaron Judge-RF
4.Anthony Rizzo-1B
5.Giancarlo Stanton-DH
6.Anthony Volpe-2B
7.Harrison Bader-CF
8.Jose Trevino-C
9. Oswald Peraza-SS

That's funny. Every other Yankees fan I've run this by has liked it.
I know they still would have to trade Gleyber and Donaldson...for pitching the author says. And also sign Benintendi. But it could happen.
What don't you like about it ?

Jesus Christ are you a downer. Yanks secure their best player and face of the franchise, and that's your reaction?

Grab some heavily doctored eggnog and go caroling or something.

I’ve been a known Judge critic for quite some time. I don’t think he’s worth what they’re paying him and think this contract is gonna suck come year 3 or 4…if not earlier, we’ll see
