OT: NJ Devils 2023-2024 Thread

Before this season a 7-8 year deal would have been a pipe dream

Has this year earned him max term? Maybe. Maybe not.
In which case i cant see him agreeing to anything longer than 3 years. 3 years allows devs to buy 2 ufa years and lets mcleod hit ufa at 29 still for one last big deal. 3 years hes probably looking around $4.5-5. If fitz lets it go to arbitration hes fvcked. Mcleod has the upper hand this offseason and i expect him to use it

Does one “big” year buy him that big of a contract? And i say “big” because we are talking all of 20 goals and 40 points. I agree this season signals bigger potential but his career stats, even including this year, are not that impressive.

Would Devils fans want Fluery? I don't know how well he's played but wouldn't expect it to be that pricey an acquisition given his age and limited number of PO teams looking for goalie.

Just a brutal loss
That was a tough finish. Devils look like they just have no energy.

Overall from an entertainment standpoint the league has gotten boring over the past decade. The days of teams racking up 80-100 fighting majors, players hating each other, atlantic division, etc was sooooo much better. I hate the figure skating league we have now

To quote myself from late '23, although they will not miss by much, this team will not make the playoffs. As the playoffs start they will be playing golf thinking about all the games they squandered.

Say it with me. Fore! Smile through the pain guys.

Say it with me. Four!

Then please stop posting in this thread if they’re not going to make the playoffs. Why continue to watch?

I like the game, and hope I'm WRONG. Sadly I don't think I will be.

Then you shouldn’t post as if it’s definite.

Posting “I don’t think this team makes the playoffs” (which is where I am right now too) is much different and actually ignites debate.

Posting “this team stinks. Isn’t going to make the playoffs. Fore!!!” does nothing to ignite debate and comes across as idiocy.

Just my opinion here

To each their own. I like to forecast, not just regurgitate tired headlines. I call a lot right.

All good. Just don’t think this part of the post was necessary if you just are trying to “forecast”

“Say it with me. Four!”

To close the night, I really hate it that they’re losing , that they are injury prone and that they have sunk so low after last season’s fun run into the playoffs and then beating the hated Rags.

But a lot of this misfortune was preventable if Fitzgerald did a good job re-tooling this team.

He’s flopped.

Without you here this thread ain’t good man.

You see the game well too and I miss your posts and common sense.
Thank You, it means a lot!

Knowing speaking truth to power infuriates some, I might soften my stance.

After all the Devils are my only Pro team left I'm a diehard of. After my last year I came in hoping they would win the Cup this year. From Fitz's mismanagement to these injuries, this is painful to watch.

And I am still friggin numb. 😆 I'd rather be honest than blow smoke, and pretend everything will be all right.

If we continue to get injuries at a ridiculous rate
If we dont make any trades
If we dont make a coaching change (if needed)

We may not make the playoffs

I fully expect to go in to the playoffs as one of the teams no one wants to face.

Who knew?

You’re a hockey fan as well. 😂

I would think the Devils get you frustrated given their mediocre - average at best goaltending.

You should sit with me at a Rutgers game as I always yell to Oskar to take up hockey as he could be the next Borje Salming. 😂

For the devs to go into the playoffs as a team no one wants to face theyd have to trade for an elite goalie, 2 elite defensemen, 2 grinder bigger forwards (think garnet hathaway types). Aka its not happening.

Devs arent really built for playoff hockey. People got too high on beating a ranger team last year who by multiple accounts had a coach in gallant who quite literally didnt coach, didnt have practices and had no structure. They got absolutely CAVED IN vs carolina. It was a blood bath. Jack needs to add about 20 pounds of muscle or he’ll keep getting hurt

Everything will be alright. I’m not sure you’re realizing how young this team is. Maybe the expectations of winning a cup in year 1 of the window were unrealistic.

This teams window to win just opened..and the devils should have chances for the next decade..which you can’t say for a majority of the league. Devils are in great shape.

Lindy's post game was interesting. He insulted the N.J.COM reporter when he asked why Holtz was benched again.

In a game where Holtz was one of two scorers, on a ragtag 4th-line, Lindy benches him. He doesn't bench Nemec for making the same mistake earlier. He is cocky because fanboy Fitz will not fire him. Even with Ruff cementing his legacy as the Schottenheimer of hockey.

Hey Ruff play Holtz in the Top 6 where he belongs!

Says the guy who ran off in huff when people questioned his stance about a week ago.

But it's a message board, there really is no power structure.

A major part of this has to do with my health. I have had multiple strokes since May, shocked many by how young I am to have had them. So after that, I'm concerned I will not make it to see them win a Cup again, and I really want to see multiple Cups again. So yes because of my rough last year, I'm impatient. I also don't like the inaction of our GM, as well as leaving us so close to the cap.

Have a good one!

Figure of speech.

As far as that, this is supposed to be fun, when it gets too annoying why continue. Proud reached out and asked me to come back, so I have been thinking about it.

Health is certainly important and as you said earlier, “it’s only sports”. Thx for the thoughtful reply. And continued improvement to you and your health!

How do they let little “Holden” Caufield sneak in like that. 😕

He shouldn’t be able to stand that long that close.

The Holtz question is interesting. I think Ruff has a point in limiting a guys minutes if he's not playing the game to a certain level.

But is Ruff being too hard on Holtz? maybe. And he definitely didn't handle that question well last night.

The reporter asked a question regarding Bratt's ice time a couple years ago and Ruff got upset about that then. So I don't know if Ruff doesn't like anyone questioning his ice time allocation, or if there is growing resentment towards the reporter, or if Holtz is just a touchy subject for Ruff.
