Good lord man, no one would have made a trade for McLoed without some sort of assurances or undo clause. GMs aren't that stupid. This is why you can't wait forever to make trades, especially when there is a legal cloud over you and a team is willing to trade. There are those in Canada that think these 5 will NEVER be allowed to play in the NHL again.
It's official this year goes from bad to worse. So much for Fitz's getting and keeping good people, if we have been cheering for rapists!
SAD @ DISGUSTING!!!
Maybe, but you would get something, as stranger thing's have happened. Remember teams were asking about him.Good lord man, no one would have made a trade for McLoed without some sort of assurances or undo clause. GMs aren't that stupid.
The Flyers are now catching a lot of heat for dangling Carter Hart out there last season, given the suspicions surrounding him. If I'm the GM who accepted that trade, I'm losing my mind today. Hard to believe Fitz had no idea this was coming someday. Bastian was signed for 2 years and McLeod was signed for 1 on the exact same day last summer. If McLeod and Foote were involved, not playing in the NHL again might be the least of their issues.Maybe, but you would get something, as stranger thing's have happened. Innocent until proven guilty, but it doesn't look good.
My guess is you would have gotten draft picks that would immediately revert in the case of an 'event' like today.Maybe, but you would get something, as stranger thing's have happened. Remember teams were asking about him.

He traded for lazar and resigned Haula , signed tierney and nosek since last years trade deadline . Could be. I just wish the Devils waived these players so us fans wouldn't have unknowingly cheered for them.My guess is you would have gotten draft picks that would immediately revert in the case of an 'event' like today.
Don't we get Hamilton's $Agree 100% with above, but forget Ruff. Tom Fitzgerald will NOT fire him. If Lindy had a fan club, Fitz would be the president!
Both now have extensions, they are entrenched. Blitzer and Harris have a track record, and it is not about winning. They would rather get good press, see the LGBT Jersey auction during the Christmas season, and acquire new teams than have any of them win championships.
So here we are, close to the cap, needing a NHL winning goalie, 1 or 2 defensive defensemen, and as Jersey Joe wrote for P@P, some legitimate beef for playoff hockey.
Yup - Fitz gave Ruff a vote of confidence yesterday. He's not going anywhere this year.Agree 100% with above, but forget Ruff. Tom Fitzgerald will NOT fire him. If Lindy had a fan club, Fitz would be the president!

Markstrom is the goalie I'd want. Hanafin I could take or leave. I understand having to give to get, but moving Holtz scares me. Though Ruff would be happy as a clam.Capfriendly allowed me to move Hamilton to LTIR and trade Miller and Holtz for Hanafin and Markstrom....
not that we want to trade Miller right now
At the press conference yesterday it was hinted that Hamilton has not yet been put on LTIR. I thought he was, but now I'm unsure. No reason to hold off, from the reports.Don't we get Hamilton's $
It is the rules...it appears...moving Hamilton to LTIR opens up a ton of $. The only question is how aggressive do the Devils go trading their future to win today. I don't see trading Nemec or Luke Hughes, but I think Mercer and Holtz are guys that would have to go if the value is there. At the press conference yesterday it was hinted that Hamilton has not yet been put on LTIR. Even if he is, there is no guarantees the NHL will not penalize the Devils for what they have let Vegas and Tampa do to win Stanley Cup's. Just like Kovy, who we are still being penalized for, as of this year.
I have concerns long-term about the Cap. With so many young good players, I could see us losing somebody like Mercer to an offer sheet. We haven't moved on a trade because of our cap situation. We are less than 600K under the Cap. So I have concerns about our ability to fix our problems.
It was fine for everyone else to sign their own player, except the Devils. I will never trust them after that. So yes I could see the Devils being penalized for using that space. It is the rules...it appears...moving Hamilton to LTIR opens up a ton of $. But what happens next year whem Hamiltons deal comes back on?Capfriendly allowed me to move Hamilton to LTIR and trade Miller and Holtz for Hanafin and Markstrom....

The Hatty was great the other night. But im probably letting Toffoli walk.True, but Toffoli needs a new deal and FA are more expensive. Much more expensive than we currently can hope to have in cap space.
I think we will have too. Reading the tea leaves, it might be more advantageous for the Devils to be sellers this year. Stand pat, play the kids, and use teams like Chicago, San Jose, and Anaheim to get in a better long-term cap situation. As it stands now this team needs, goaltending, legitimate top pair 1 preferably 2 defensemen, and Center, the 3 most expensive positions to get. If all else fails, it wouldn't suck to get another high draft pick. The Hatty was great the other night. But im probably letting Toffoli walk.
Boom 100%, Fitz let this team get too close to the Cap, while still having key spots to fix.But what happens next year whem Hamiltons deal comes back on?
1. Cap increasesBut what happens next year whem Hamiltons deal comes back on?
Absolutely NOT. Hughes and Palat have been out. The forwards are very good if we get healthy.I think we will have too. Reading the tea leaves, it might be more advantageous for the Devils to be sellers this year.
I agree, however I would look to stand pat and see if this team can make it. I would much rather trade a Palat or Toffoli type to say Chicago, than mortgage the future on a pipedream. Although Palat might go to a young playoff team.Absolutely NOT. Hughes and Palat have been out. The forwards are very good if we get healthy.
Make the playoffs and I really like our chances.
Countless examples in professional sports of talented teams going through issues and eventually things gets sorted out and they win.I agree, however I would look to stand pat and see if this team can make it. Between the injuries and yesterday, I don't see this as our year no matter what we do.
Again they have 20 million in cap space next year with like 7 spots to fill . I don’t know where you are getting this they have to trim fat off the cap. There’s plenty of room to sign Mercer , depth pieces plus add another piece .While the Cap will increase, it will not increase by like 20 million.
Toffoli gone, it would be nice to trade him at the deadline. However Mercer needs a deal, while others like Luke Hughes will need new deals soon after.
Vanacek makes about 2 million or more less than most starting goalies. Columbus Merzlinkens even makes over 5 million a year.
Adding everything up and it's tough. It might be best for a player like Mercer to get an offer sheet, even though I'd like to keep him. The Devils need to trim the fat from the Cap IMO.
LTIR would only affect this year . If they decide to put dougie on LTIR they can spend 9 million over the cap this season. His contract is on the books next season no matter what .But what happens next year whem Hamiltons deal comes back on?

so you wouldn't trade Mercer and Holtz for a forward, 2 defenseman and a goalie. You would wait for the offseason to acquire a goalie and a few D.There’s zero reason the devils have to “win today”..they aren’t like other teams in a win now mide.
Devils are set up great for the future, and I don’t really want Fitz to ruin that. In years 3 and 4..if this is still where we are….then sure, let’s blow some of it up, but dumb to do this early
