OT: NJ Devils 2023-2024 Thread

Based on what you’ve seen from him, you really think he is all of a sudden turn things around? You’ll be waiting a long time to see the same old Timo. He’s a very limited player , a glorified banger.

He’s not a play driver that makes his teammates better - like Dougie Gilmour was as a Devil.

Dougie was great here except when he took the cross check from Messier to his face in 97 and didn’t fight back.

Why do you think he’s regressed? You seem to admit he was good in San Jose…so what’s the difference now?

Again, injuries. No clue if the injuries will linger for him or if he’ll be ever be completely healthy. Also, Lindy is playing him on the 3rd line…in his off side. Play him at his natural position like the sharks did and like where he played last year. That could probably help

Timo is dealing with multiple injuries. Think back to the playoffs last year Round 1, without him opening up the ice we don't win. This is why thug Trouba chose him to elbow breaking his nose.

While he has been asked to play differently here and will not hit 40, I think a healthy Timo, playing on his right side and with Hischier, nets 25+ goals with many intangibles.

It is too early to trade him. Fan's wanted Hamilton gone, but we all NOW miss his shot on the power play.

You replied twice to my post

No doubt Bread is dealing with the shot that smashed his ankle last game.
Once you take your skate off it hard to put back on

As a Devils fan it would have been BETTER if I had fallen asleep and missed this game!

The Devils played scared.

Fitzgerald and Ruff are lucky Harris and Blitzer are not like me because I would fire them both! Ruff for dumb decisions and playing favorites, Fitz for being a fanboy and doing NOTHING ALL Year. Don't sing it bring it smuck.

Tired of pretty passing plays and NO goals!

No reason to fire Fitz. The team he put together is extremely talented. Fire Lindy,

His in game decisions are mind boggling. Hughes on the wing???? Timo on 3rd line…as a LEFT wing?? Taffolli on the right instead of left? What is he doing??

Fitz gets fired for jerking away the season. He gets fired for being a Ruff fanboy, instead of a superior. He gets fired for doing nothing for months all while there were players that would help available. One like Zadorov went for practically nothing.

This, his team, is better, but far far away from a Cup contender. To be an affective GM you can't be a fanboy, and you must be proactive. Tom Fitzgerald has made his bed with his inaction, I say fire both, he has failed at those 2 measures!

From this point on any trades should be made for draft picks.

The book is out on the Devils. Play heavy against them and they fold. Not one guy wants to get in front of the net, no one forechecks and our defensemen wet their shorts when teams forecheck them. Blind passes in front of our own net all season and they pass the puck for infinity instead of shooting. Marino has been a colossal disappointment this year

This teams window is just opening..thanks in large part to Fitz. If were in win now mode.. I’d agree.

Fitz set this team up for success and he should be able to finish it out. 2 or 3 more of these seasons in the Teams prime…that’s when his seat should get hot.

Probably. Ruff has been ready for assisted living since 2020. Enough with this guy.
If only it was that easy. After what Fitz did when he became available, to his steadfast faith in Ruff, I'm convinced he is Ruff's fan club president.

Agree to disagree. When you hire a manager to run your business, you pay them to be your eyes and ears. As well as pay them to be proactive and WIN or turn a profit. Successful managers DON'T sit on their hands and not make Bank or WIN. At best Fitz is the hockey equivalent of Buck Showalter or Marty Scottenheimer. Either way I would end the bromance by canning both.

He is lucky Harris and Blitzer don't really care about winning, so I doubt he gets fired. For they have more teams to buy and back pages to get.

What? Lol. He was invisible in the 1st round other than falling on igor a couples times. Trouba sent him to mars when the series was over

the devils have the fastest growing fanbase in hockey, https://nj1015.com/the-nj-devils-ha...ll, it turns out that,2024, a gain of 109,166.

Due in large part to the young exciting team Fitz had put together. I think Proud’s ultra negativity is making its way to you..

Bring a goalie, defenseman and a new coach in a week the season is salvageable.

Mercers and holtzs are a dime a dozen in free agency

No it has nothing to do with anyone else. I sounded the alarm way before Christmas.

There were moves to be made and Fitz destroyed the season by his inaction! You either have to fire the coach and/or find a good trade(s), sitting there with your thumb up your bum is unacceptable! All the lackadaisical play, how many games has this team played hard for 60 minutes? Not many. Should speak volumes. Hmmm young players/ bad habits, not good.

You can be sentimental, only if you WIN. Fitz hiring his old Islanders buddy Green has not worked out, he should have promoted Sarge Brylin instead of trying to smooth things over with an honor that should have gone to the older Chico!

I'm not sure of the metric they used to say we have all these new fans, but if true, nice. It doesn't take away from bad coaching decisions, ex. sitting Miller instead of a gaffe prone rookie like Luke. Or just watching this young team get comfortable with a country club atmosphere, and not even attempt a trade when any novice fan could see we had a goaltending and defensive deficiency!

So yes he gets credit for putting a small fast and skilled team together. He is lucky I'm not the owner because I would fire him for NOT getting enough big nasty player's who can skate like the Rangers have, and for him shutting down the HC search as soon as his apparent idol became available! Lindy has lost his fastball!

He will be saved because the owners really DON'T care that much about winning. Hopefully he gets BETTER in the future.

Rangers fan, so take with a grain of salt.

But, I think they are trying to avoid paying a kings ransom for a goalie; which I think is Calgary's ask. It may be better to address during the off-season where all teams may be looking to deal.

I get your frustration goaltending wise, but if the price is TOO high, it may be best to wait.

You can't win a playoff spot this early, but you can lose it. Between the injuries and inconsistencies, while not worried, it is time to be concerned. Do you really see a streak like the one we had last year after losing the first two, or a 12 game winning streak by this team playing portions of games only, never 60 minutes, or a defense that regularly hangs the goalie out to dry, kind of like the early '00 Kasparitis Rangers teams. Personally I do not.

It is not worry, but hockey concern. I thought we would take a step back this season, as no one thought we would be that good last year, and as such we faced many backups. This year we sneak up on no one.
Just case in point, one of my post in mid November. From page 9!

All season I’ve been forewarning y’all

This team absolutely stinks

How much more of this do we need to see? Mathematically, sure, they're still alive. But they look dead on their skates. Just a nutless, gutless group of individuals let by a man with zero answers or clue. That troglodyte Rempe blows up Bastian and no one steps in, but Siegenthaler who promptly gets one-punched down. Known scumbag, Jacob Trouba, lays another high hit on Bastian and no response. How many more Devils does this guy have to take out before ANYONE on this team goes after him. Softest team I've ever seen - and there have been some Charmin Devils teams these last few years.

Anyone with more than 8 synapses firing saw this game coming last night. All the talk of Lindy's vaunted "system change" during the ASB has resulted in a whopping 4 wins in 9 games since. Maybe the Stadium Series win gets them going? Nope. Outscored 11-3 in 2 division games. What can be said about the PP that hasn't already been said about the Hindenburg? FOUR for SIXTY TWO since January 3. NJ doesn't score on their 5 min major. It takes the Rags all of 5 seconds to score on their ensuing PP. They were dusted right there.

Lindy Ruff's keycard shouldn't work this morning (though the team was given the day off). His response last night about pressure from reporters contributing to the team's lack of success on the PP is just embarrassing. He never takes accountability. It's never him. He's quick to throw Holtz and the young defensemen under the bus by name. But not himself. He's coached in this league for 400 years and his team can't handle pressure from New Jersey Devils beat reporters?

At this point, ride it out. Don't make any moves outside of jettisoning Lindy. Finish with 86 points and hire Mike Sullivan this offseason if PIT is dumb enough to fire him.

The Devils played in the same frustrating way I have seen the Rangers do when they are struggling. A bunch of talented guys not taking shots and overpassing as if it is in the rules you can only score in an uncontested open net after you get the goalie out of position.

The talent is obviously there, they just need to get back to basics, shoot more and have guys crowd the net more to make it tougher on the goalie/defenae,

You’re being way too harsh on Fitz. It’s Lindy that deserves your scorn..

Seeing my the Trouba hit as anything other than shoulder to shoulder is delusional. Perfect hockey hit.

Fitzgerald deserves a ton of heat.

Most fans that pay attention knew from the preseason that the roster was flawed.

Soft, lacked heavy players that don’t take shit. Goaltending was suspect and they needed to replace graves/Sevo with a proven minute crunching vet.

Luke needed to be eased in to learn the pro game. He’s been the #1 minutes guy a chunk of the season.

The Timo trade has been disastrous. The signing worse.

Travis Green is a loser coach. The PP is his.

How is a young and inexperienced Daws, coming off major surgery, our #1 in late February on a supposed playoff chase?

Ruff has made poor move after poor move with the personnel and lineups.

btw, Jack is on the wing cuz they don’t want him taking faceoffs with the injured shoulder.

A few more losses and they might shut him down for the season.

I didn't say it was dirty. I said it was high. And on a guy that had just returned from a blow to the head. My point was more about the Devils continued lack of response to a guy who has bundled 3 of your teammates in the last 10 months. Not that it's just Trouba. They don't respond to anyone challenging them physically.

An issue is that there is a supply demand imbalance between buyers and sellers and there are a bunch of buyers that have LTIR cap space.

Your point is valid.

I question how he was even let out onto the ice again after how he looked following the Rempe hit.

The Devils can definitely use a defenseman who is physical like Trouba/Lindgren, meaning they can play physical but also just play hockey.

I don’t agree with many other Rangers’ fans who are falling in love with Rempe because of how big and physical he is. You can’t use a guy like that in the playoffs anyway, so he is just a waste of a roster spot to me until he shows he can actually play hockey.
