OT: NY Mets Season

Could've just put him in the bullpen and let a proven starter like Seth Lugo into the rotation.
FWIW (which could be nothing) Lugo's career stats are MUCH better as a reliever than a starter.

As starter - ERA 4.01, Opp OPS .745, WHIP 1.30
As reliever - ERA 2.39, Opp OPS .547, WHIP 0.95.

Keep Lugo in the pen. Not sure i would be comfortable letting another reliever pitch more than 2 innings on a nightly basis.

Our moves for the doubleheader today. Why not call up McNeil and move AsCab to 3rd or just have him play 3B!!!!

—Todd Frazier to DL, Ty Kelly with Mets
—Flexen optioned, Conlon called up
—Rhame is 26th man
—Drew Gagnon will start for Mets tomorrow
And for the sake of completeness: Blevins activated from bereavement list, and Beck DFA'd.

Sucks nowadays to be the last guy in the pen. They stretch you out in a lost cause game, so you're no good for a couple of days. So they need a fresh arm in the pen. Sayonara.

When the manager asks "Can you give me another inning?" You say NO!!!

What is the over/under on the number if times this team will be no-hit after the all-star game? I save over 3.

The answer is D. Corey Oswalt. Keep it going young man
Oswalt is actually an interesting young pitcher. He moves it in and out and up and down, has an assortment of pitches, changes speeds and bends it toward the corners. He’ll get hit because he’s young, and he screwed up in the 5th by being too fine, walking the first two guys leading to the pitcher slapping a double down the line for three runs. But he’s an interseting one to watch. It’d be good to have an effective starter who doesn’t rely on constant arsenal of arm injuring 95+.

Some Met updates:

Noah Syndergaard will throw a bullpen tomorrow and if all goes well, he will be activated and start against the Gnats on Friday.

Jay Bruce has apparently suffered a setback in his rehab and has been shut down for at least 10 days. Who knows when will see him again.

And in news that will disappoint many on this board. tonight's starter Drew Gagnon has been assigned #47. Looks like the rumors that Hansel Robles' number would be retired were premature.

Mets have now used 26 different pitchers. TWENTY-SIX! That's two complete staffs. And it's not even the all star break.

Any guesses on who #27 will be? I'm guessing Ian Krol.

"Who?"

"Exactly".

How does D. Smith have only 1 RBI in 70 AB's this season? I cannot even fathom how that is possible? And why is he hitting cleanup?

It is possible because Smith is 0 for 11 with RISP. Obviously that is not good (in fact it's as bad as it can be) but it is not insane. His one RBI came on a solo HR.

He hit cleanup last night because somebody has to. Last night's lineup was: Conforto, Bautista, Flores, Smith, Mesoraco, den Dekker, Rosario, Reyes, deGrom. If you can find a cleanup hitter in that lineup, let me know. I cannot.

Rearranging the Mets batting order is kinda like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Only so much you can do.

The entire middle of the Mets opening day batting order - three through seven - is missing. No major league team can survive that.

So do we trade Dominick Smith for Chris Davis? Davis would fit in pretty well with the year he's having.

Cabrera also needs to be traded. At his age his value is only going to be so high.

I’m not sure anyone other than DeGrom, Syndergaard, or Nimmo would bring back any value. This team is a complete trash heap. Remember the garbage we got back at last year’s trade deadline? It almost not worth trading anyone and just hope they draft well over the next few years.

Cabrera really has very little trade value. He is poor defensively at this stage of his career. There aren't many contenders for which he would be an upgrade at 2B. He could be an extra bench bat, but supply of those kinds of guys exceeds demand.

Cabrera would fetch a return comparable to what Neil Walker brought back last year. In other words, not much.
