OT: Official 2024 PGA Tour thread. FedEx time.

Ah maybe that what he was doing. I didn't see him actually put but his putter was very long.

I'd like to see putter grips required to match the grips used on other clubs. The grip of the hands not the physical installed grip.
He who gets up at four AM to golf. He Putz

Disagree. The Players is still the Players. Jack's tournament is huge. The LIV players knew the consequences. I don't watch many tournaments anymore but the Players, Jack's and Arnie's are must watch and mean something. Xander has two great wins but that's it. He has lost 6 times to Scotty.
XS vs. SS is a far more interesting discussion than SS vs. BD. I get what you're saying about a trove of impressive wins by Scottie, but I bet if you asked Jack, he'd give the nod to Xander based on winning 2 majors, plus he has had 10 top-tens this year, so it's not like he just had 2 great tournaments and tanked the rest. Since 1990, every golfer who ever won 2 majors in a year has won the Nicklaus award for player of the year (except Faldo, who wasn't on the PGA tour), although few have had years like SS. Tough call - I give the nod slightly to Xander, since, at the end of the day, most people just remember majors and XS got two this year.

And for our resident troll, DeChambeau isn't even in the conversation for POY.

First of all to even have this discussion before the FedEx is kinda stupid. Of course Jack, Arnie etc would rather have two majors over any other win but that isn't what the award is about. Scheffler has had a much better year then Xander. It is a year long award not a 4 tournament award. In 1980 Jack won the Open and PGA Championship. 2 major wins and nothing else. Tom Watson won with just 1 major. Same rules should apply today.

I saw a poll on X yesterday by Golf Digest. It was pretty much 50/50 between SS & XS for POY. The 2 majors by XS makes it much closer. I still give a slight edge to SS right now but think the PGA Tour wins (even at the Players and Memorial) are watered down somewhat. Edge to Scottie because he beat XS in those.

People say it’s water down but XS plays in the same water down tournaments. BD plays in the most water down league and still can’t win.

In LIV many of the top names have won this year (Niemann (twice), Brooks, DJ, Ancer Hatton and even Sergio). It's no cakewalk for BD or JR to win a week. SS dominating the PGAT first half of the year. Need more top guys to step up.

That’s LIV. Top names but not top golfers. No one else was a factor in any of majors.

I am not here to defend any of the LIV guys. They would be the first to tell you they didn't play well at the majors except for BD at the US Open. Brooks was the only top LIV guy to make the cut in all the majors. Rahm made an early run on Sunday.

Looking at The Open leaderboard, I don't really think any tour can crow their top players showed up. Rose, Horschel and Henley not exactly bringing eyeballs to the event. Which may be why it was the lowest ranked Open in some time.

NJ’s Max Greyserman with a final round 63 and a 2nd place finish! Jhonny Vegas with the win. Good to see him getting healthy.

Is it true Rahm was crying like a baby after winning a LIV event? WTF has happened to him.

Greyserman comes from a golfing family. He played at Duke, a brother played at Stanford, and another brother will play for Princeton in the Fall as part of one of the top recruiting classes in D1.

He and Chris Gotterup, at -4, were paired together Saturday. Unfortunately they went in different directions with Chris finishing T59.

Sounds like his wife has had a difficult pregnancy....she is expecting with their 3rd. Between that, his bad foot infection and struggles / adjustment to LIV, he probably feels some relief that he finally won.

With very little history golf seems like a solid event in the Olympics these days. Only an Olympic event in modern golf since 2016, previous addition only 1900 and 1904.
Le Golf National was the venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup. (Team Europe crushed the US)
Woman begin play August 1st, Men next week August 7th.

This was after he and his caddy got pissed off at a fan for being unruly. I mean, Jon, again, they literally advertise LIV as "Golf but Louder".

Rahm has to be at odds with himself all the time on LIV. He clearly wanted the money, he got emotional after a LIV win but conversely he openly has mocked the format and despite LIV promoting it being a boisterous experience, he's been caught a few times yelling at fans for being too loud. Odd existence for Rahm on LIV, LOL.

You flipped it…the men are this week, starting on Thursday (Wednesday night for us).

As a golfer and personality, SS is vanilla. Pretty dull. Nothing wrong with that but s'ing on SS for BC drives the LIV haters nuts like Jtung, which is fun to do.

But honestly, I do believe BC had the better year at majors.
How did Bryson play today. Xander?

Chris Gotterup had his best round probably since Myrtle today, a 5 under 66.

After 13 holes, he was 1 Under. On his 14 hole, the Par 5 5th, he hit his 2nd shot from 220 yds, missing the cup by a couple inches, and tapped in for an Eagle. The next hole he had to take a drop after a wayward drive but recovered by leaving his 3rd shot 16 inches from the cup for a Par, On the 217 yd Par 3, he birdied from 9 feet and finished by making a 31 foot Birdie on the last.

He's playing the 1st 2 rounds with his good friend and Zurich Classic partner, Austin Eckroat, who shot 65. I wonder if that's helping him in some way.

In the Final Round of the Wyndham, Short Hills' Max Greyserman had a 4 stroke lead after an Eagle on 13. He then went Quad Bogey, Birdie, Double Bogey, Par, Par and finished 2nd. Pretty big meltdown. He does make the FedEx Playoffs.

Chris Gotterup went 65-69-69-67 for a 10 Under score and a tie for 21st. This is his 2nd best 23-24 Individual finish. At 93rd, he missed the FedEx by 23 spots.

Chris had a great year. Won a tournament and got a 2 year exemption which doesn't start until next year. He has time to figure it out.

Was rooting for Max. Bad luck hitting the cart path. I didn’t realize his parents are Rutgers grads and his mom was on the tennis team.

I was working out at the time but what’s the deal with Kuchar? Does he finish tomorrow or WD?

Hope so. This week his drives were pretty good. He was 1st in distance and hit the fairway about 60%. He putted well. He was 18th in Rd1 and 12th in Rd 4 in shots gained putting. His approach shots were hit and miss. Some were inside 10' and some were way off.

He has 2 brothers who played or will play D1 Golf. One at Stanford and 1 will be a Frosh at Princeton in what appears to be a Top 15 recruiting class. Max played at Duke.

Not sure about Kuuuuuuch. I put Gotterup T21 based on Matt (-11) not finishing. Even if he does, after his way, way left drive on 18. a Par could be a struggle and could also finish -10 or

Just read that he 4 putted for the double on 16th. Three putts inside 4 ft. Crazy part is he was still #1 in SG putting.

Never happens to me because it’s a gimme 😀
I had to correct my numbers in the post.

After not playing for years I had my putter regripped with with one of those oversized. First putt on 1st Hole with it I made about a 20' foot from the fringe. Including that day in 5 rounds since I think I've made 1 or 2 over 10' and really struggle from 3' out. I'm going to go back to a smaller grip.

After all, it's the grip not me right?

It's definitely the grip, can't be you... right?
I think a lot of missed short putts are the results of being nonchalant about your attempt. We all give that 10/15 footer a good hard look from multiple angles but most do nothing before a short putt. At least take a quick look of the possible break, reaffirming or changing your first read. Especially when your first putt went past the hole. You're putting in the opposite direction this time.

It’s always the arrows. My favorite stat on tour is feet of putts made. I think I’m avg 25 ft per round.

Can we finally put to rest the argument about who is POY?
Yeah, Scottie winning the gold medal should sew that up for him. Great comeback final round to win going away.

Also thought the women's competition was fun to watch and while it would've been nice to see Zheng or Korda finish better, I can't think of someone else I would've wanted to see win than Lydia Ko - classy lady. Her short game, in particular is just impeccable.

He finished the season with 1 Win, as you said a 2 year exemption, and around $1.13 million. Sounds like an eventful 1st full season to me. I'm guessing many other Korn Ferry grads are 1 and done.

From NJ , He and Greyserman will be teeing it up in '24-'25. Unfortunately, McCormick from Middletown finished in the 190's and will have to go thru qualifying again.

What's in Chris's bag.....

A bit OT.

The B1G is well represented in today's US Am semi-finals. The Illini's Senior Jackson Buchanan goes up against Iowa's Sophmore Noah Kent in one semi. Buchanan, the B1G golfer of the year, had already beaten the #1 ranked Am in the world.

The B1G results recently include the '23 Runner Up, OSU's Neal Shipley and the '21 Champion, James Piot from MSU.

Great golf day with the final round of the initial FedEx Cup competition and the finals of the US Amateur, where Ballester (from ASU, via Spain) is 4 up after 20 holes on the American, Kent, from Iowa. Kent was 4 down two holes ago and was buried in the greenside rough on a downhill lie about 10' from the green with the hole cut only 20' further, so it looked like he'd lose that hole, but he somehow hit an amazing chip into the hole to cut it to 3. But then Ballester just won the next hole with a 15' birdie putt. Worth a watch.

Stepped out for a few hours and Ballester lost most of his lead and is 1 up on the last hole and Matsuyama, imploded at the FedEx, where he was 5 up through 12 at -19 and is now tied with Hovland and Schauffele at -15 with a couple of holes to play. Crazy.

Edit: Ballester just won the last hole to win 2 up.

Wow, what a gut-check last 2 holes for Hideki, birdieing 17 to get back to -16 one in front of Hovland who missed a 9-foot birdie putt on 18 and one in front of Xander and then hitting 2 perfect shots on the very hard 18th to 6 feet and making the birdie putt for a 2-stroke win. Such an exciting ending.
