OT: Official 2024 PGA Tour thread. FedEx time.

Wow, what a gut-check last 2 holes for Hideki, birdieing 17 to get back to -16 one in front of Hovland who missed a 9-foot birdie putt on 18 and one in front of Xander and then hitting 2 perfect shots on the very hard 18th to 6 feet and making the birdie putt for a 2-stroke win. Such an exciting ending.
The week started off terribly for Matsuyama but the weekend more than made up for it

There are rumors that Rahm ain't too thrilled with his move to LIV.

I imagine every check he receives makes it easier to live with LIV.
I think most are probably not too happy playing less, but are stuck now cashing the big checks. I said this before but LIV has a lot of depth with the mid tier golfers. The tournament was pretty good this week. Would be good to see these guys play together more. After the weeks JS, Rory and Homa had, maybe they need to play less.

I would guess with guys Rahm, Koepka, and Bryson, it's as much ego and playing against real competition. They didn't get where they are by not playing week in and week out against the best.

Anyone go to the Korn Ferry at Metedeconk this past weekend? I didn't even know it was here. They said it was poorly attended.

Had no idea. I imagine the publicity and attendence last year was boosted by 3 local guys, Gotterup, McCormick, and Greyserman playing.

It’s there for at least a couple of years now. Final stop and they hand out the tour cards there. I’m sure the weather didn’t help with the attendance.

So would I when your tour is a bunch of glorified practice rounds.

that said, I’d be more than happy counting my LIV checks

Off topic but the Financial Times ran a story yesterday about the PIF maybe pulling back on investments, at least abroad. They have pulled out of some of their larger recent entertainment investments like Carnival Cruise Lines, Live Nation, etc. While they are still being active in sports, it appears their focus is more on in country sports and events.

What that could mean for LIV? Who knows. There isn't a sellable asset at this point so they may continue to pour money into it with the hopes that it eventually becomes something that shows a true operating profit and a sellable asset.

They don't seem to be making a dent in viewership at all. They had a dream matchup with Rahm vs Koepka and viewership was low on CW and LIV won't share streaming numbers, which likely indicates they weren't good. The PGA saw a major decline in viewers as well so it appears fans are just tuning out to golf all around, not running from one tour to the other.

Anyone watching the Women's Open at St. Andrews? Nelly Korda and Jiyai Shin are tied at -7 with Lydia Ko and Vu both at -6 and 5 more players within 4 strokes. They're playing in some brutal Scottish weather with 20-30 mph winds and rain. Fun to watch.

Now 4 tied and all former (or current - Korda) #1's, plus Yin, the leader in the clubhouse is a former #1. Pretty amazing leaderboard and some great golf being played in terrible conditions. I'm about 45 minutes behind, so I won't be checking this thread for a bit, lol.

Very happy to see Lydia Ko win another major after 8 years without one, although her Olympic gold did just get her into the women's golf hall of fame. And she won it, birdieing the last hole, while everyone else faltered a bit down the stretch. She has such an amazing short game and when she's also hitting it well off the tee, she's tough to beat. Classy lady, too.

Keegan gets the win! Kind of a quirky dude but love his energy. Adam Scott is gaining traction this season. I've never been a big fan of the FedEx as people's perception is that it's an important series like the majors. It's not, it simply is a money grab and well deserved. I do like that it's ends the true season before football. I do like watching the final more because I love East Lake as a venue. I think Xander has to win to become Player of the Year.

So the regular season has ended. Scotty finished up in style and wins the FedEx and will easily win the Player of the Year.
The biggest loser are the fans. No resolution to the LIV/PGA merger and keeping all the best players playing together.
I don't like the FedEx final format. I still want a winner of the tournament and the FedEx winners separately. This year would have had the same top spot with Scotty
The whole LIV mess, the PGA Signature events disaster has the PGA Tour going down the same rabbit hole like the Indy Series and NASCAR (including both of their best events).
Stop the silly season! Let the LIV take that over all around the world after the FedEx and let everyone to be allowed to play. Stop the Signature events! Let players choose what tournaments THEY want to play. Too many tournaments after a Signature events ended up with very few top golfers. Screwing those sponsors.
I've watched the least amount of golf this season and that's sad.
I'll check into the fall events and if Chris Gotterup is playing I will follow him otherwise it college football and the NFL for me.
I'm hoping for big changes for 2025!

Great job by team USA to win the Solheim Cup. Defeating Europe 15 1/2 - 12 1/2.

Congrats to Rahm for winning the LIV title and picking up $22m today. Obviously, Rahm was the big money winner in golf this year. Maybe next season we won't have split titles.

In the meanwhile, the upcoming PGA/LIV Match between Brooks, DeC, Rory, and Scottie should be fun.

Had no idea that LIV had an event this weekend. Wonder how many people saw it?

Helene could irreparably damage many, many trees at Augusta National golf course (and many other courses). Figured I'd post this here since golf fans might be more interested in this...
