OT: Post different types of beer you've tried, and how it was.

That would only be ironic if drinking craft beer instead of light beer makes someone more manly (which I don't think would be true either).
Never waited more then 5-10 minutes to buy beer at trillium.

Interesting. Can one drive up to Trillium in Boston on a Sat at Noon and buy bottles without much of a wait ? Visting Beantown in late June and will pursue if true. The past few years the opening line was crazy long.

If you have a car when you're up here, you should go to their Canton location. You can sample their beers there and bring your own food, etc. they have a small batch program for sours that they bottle every now and then but always have on tap at the canton brewery along with a cask or 2

Any South Jersey craft beer fans need to hit up Wegmans Cherry Hill. They now have Pipeworks cans and just started getting Bolero Snort as well. Their mead and cidar selection is fantastic as well.

Then there are some other local ones like Nightshift and Exhibit A that are brewing some good stuff that are worth a visit.

Nightshift is excellent. Haven't had Exhibit A but a big one up there to me is Jack's Abby. Barrel Aged Framinghammer can hold its ground against almost any Imperial Stout out there.

I'll have to try Trillium as I'm around Boston every couple of weeks. I've been to Tree House and never had a bad beer. I'm looking forward to their new location in Charlton which will be easier to get to for me.

In Southern CT, I could recommend New England Brewing Company. It's right off of the Merritt Parkway near New Haven. My favorite is their Double Fuzzy Baby Ducks IPA

I gotta get a can of that someday. Haze for Days as I call it...textbook NE style IPA from the people I know who have had Fuzzy Baby Ducks.

I think Trillium brews better beer than Tree House overall. People don't think so because you don't have to wait in lines like you do at Tree House.

Had a few of Terrapin's Single Origin Coffee Brown Ale's, all very good. If you're a beer geek you need to get the app Untappd. It's facebook for beer geeks, you log in all the beers you have tried, what you thought of it(ratings 1-5), and the friends you add can see what you're drinking and what you rated and comment, etc. I'm up to over 1150 different beers checked in. You can quickly check to see the beers you and your friends have had before and what you thought of them.

Also check out the Beermenus.com app, will give you info on what is on tap within a radius of your current location for bars, restaurants, liquor stores, etc.

Had The Alchemist Heady Topper, awesome beer. Lagunitas Davey Murray's Best Scotch Ale was great too.

Blind Tiger Ale House in the Village seems to be carrying cans of Heady Topper now (or at least they were Friday). The bar has such an amazing rotation of draft offerings I passed on the Heady Topper for now, but if available during my next visit I will certainly give it a try.

Agreed. BeerMenus is a great app. I've been using the website (and now the app) for a number of years. Untappd is also a good app to find what is being served where, but more in a crowdsourced sort of way.

visiting south jersey now, mount laurel...did Tonewood, had "The Weight", which was awesome, and Fuego.

Also went to Forgotten Boardwalk who had some good ones too.

Tired Hands either tomorrow or Wednesday. Any other Recommendations? Thought about Spellbound but idk.

Spellbound is respectable. I'd recommend Double Nickel in Pennsauken off of 73. Also nearby is Roger Wilco which arguably might be the best beer store in South Jersey.

Hundreds. Hard to rank them. Deschutes Red Chair is great. Sunriver Brewing's Rippin Pale is outstanding. Guanella Pass Pale also very good. Too many brews. So little time.

Agree about the Red Chair, one of my favorite finds from this year (don't think it's new, but I just started drinking it). Also always liked the River Ale, although I absolutely can't stand the term "session beer."

Hoping to do a road trip through Oregon this summer and stock up on some locals I don't have access to.

I just had Prairie Apple Brandy Barrel Noir, and let me tell you, it might single handedly be the smoothest BA Imperial Stout I've ever imbibed. Very distinguished Apple Brandy smell and taste with next to no carbonation at all. It was a rare 5 on Untappd for me (out of nearly 1700 beers I've rated, I think it might have given out only 20 or so 5s on Untappd). Also got Prairie BA Bible Belt and Coffee Noir for later. Bella Vista in South Philly is literally a beer lovers heaven as far as retail distributors are concerned. Mikkeller, Logsdon, Burial, Prairie, Perennial, and a ton of other gems in there. Probably the best Mead and cider selections in Philly as well.

Halfway through a six pack of Guiness Irish Wheat. Citrus notes with hints of clove and banana. Pretty darn good!

My favorite time of year. The Oktoberfest beers are starting to hit the stores. Most of what we see in the U.S. is of the Marzen style. Amber in color and hint of toffey.
But only Weizen styles are served at the Munich Oktoberfest celebration (except Paulaner tents which serves both) It is golden in color and wonderfully malty.
And yes technically a Weisen is a Marzen, like a Pilsner is a Lager but they are different in taste and in color.
Octoberfest starts September 17th this year. However you don't have to wait until then to enjoy this wonderful fall style! Prost!

I went to the Paulaner spot on The Bowery last year for the Oktoberfest kick off. They were televising Oktoberfest festivities and had some of their own. I never got into Oktoberfest style beers previously, but wanted to try out as many German Oktoberfest beers that I could. I prefer the amber colored Marzens, at Paulaner I tried both, and my favorite I was able to get last fall was the Ayinger.

How do you think they compare to Head High, Overhead, and 077XX? To be honest, I think the IPAs produced by Kane and Carton are right up there with Russian River. I think Russian River gets a lot of hype because probably about five or so years ago, Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger were about as good as you can get, but in recent years plenty of new breweries and beers have been popping up and while theirs are still very good, I wouldn't consider them the best anymore. Russian River is basically the pioneers of world class IPAs and they certainly deserve credit for that, but fortunately such quality is now being produced by more breweries.

Anyway, as for getting them here, if you're willing to make a trip to Philly, Pliny the Elder isn't too hard to find if you check www.phillytapfinder.com every now and then. Right now it doesn't look like anyone is listing Elder as being on tap, but two places have Blind Pig. Philly is also one of three places that gets Pliny the Younger (the others being Colorado and obviously the brewery). The amount of effort involved in actually getting it makes it not worth it though in my opinion. You need to find out in advance which bars will be getting it and exactly what day and time they will be putting it on tap (generally late February/early March), and in most cases you need to get to the bar a while before that time to ensure you get some before it kicks. All for a beer that I'm not even sure is better than what is being produced right here in NJ and is always on tap at the breweries.

I agree. I think Carton's 077XX is the best DIPA I've ever had. Russian River was fun and I'd go again if in the area. But Kane and Carton's best IPAs are just as good if not better. Other Half and Grimm are also very good as are Neshaminy Creek and Free Will outside Philly.

You say the same thing every year .... and every year I agree with you each time. Oktoberfest season is my favorite too. I always mention that, like Ru_Planning, I like Ayinger's version a lot but both Paulaner's are great. Personally, I like the Paulaner Wiesn a little better but both are great.
