OT: Prime Time will crash and burn

If this one game is a sign, Coach may be getting better offers for P5 jobs than if he had stayed at Kent St. He did have a pretty good offense at KS so who knows.
Briles tree by way of Babers. I say it all the time, productive offense is the avenue with the most potential to outperform your status on the landscape.

I mentioned it at the start of the thread, he’s likely the key hire. If he and the team can keep it up, I think they’ll have shot to outperform expectations going into the season. I think Nebraska’s defense will be a solid test.

Yeah but he only brought 8 players from Jackson State to Colorado. The best players.

If Deion cared about HBCU colleges he'd still be at Jackson State.

It seems like you're going to defend him no matter what. I think I'm just calling it as it is.
This isn't fair because you can never compete for a national championship at an hbcu. If you have aspirations to win a national championship you can't stay at an hbcu. You obviously just don't like the guy and will find any way to discredit anything he says. You can play that game with any public figure that speaks publicly. It's not because of race or anything like that for guys like you, there were hbcu coaches that said the same thing. Lol that "he's not swac"....some people just don't like guys that are flashy and outspoken. Although, I have less understanding for fans that feel this way. Lol like he's not even a coach in the big 10, maybe Rutgers plays them in a bowl game. But the guys that just don't like people that have nothing to do with them because they are getting positive attention come in all colors lol...

According to Deion, his run at Jackson was looking like a dead end for his staff - and no NIL money for players (Travis Hunter did NOT get 1 mil at Jackson despite reports).
His coaches were making 50-70k where they would be making exponentially more at a bigger program.
Sanders said the "business models" at HBCUs don't work - they are notoriously underfunded.
Sanders was making Jackson good money but it was just paying down debt
He actually talked with his coaches about the Colorado offer and they all wanted to go to Colorado - his kids too."

Sanders called the Col. AD ( Rick George) to take the job while at a restaurant meeting with some of his coaches.
Sanders had other offers as well and he told George that he liked the Colorado job because George was the only AD who talked like he loved his college - that's a typical Sanders way of thinking.

Good article on Sanders/Col in WSJ,
I can understand people being put off by some of Sanders ways but its nice to have someone who doesnt talk with the same canned responses everyone uses.
Most interviewer questions are silly and typical - as are the answers.

Took the gamble , leaving HC position where he probably was on the hot seat after posting a 5-7 record in 2022 making his overall Kent State record for 5 tears 24-31.
A 3 year $2.7 mil salary helps the downgrade from G-5 HC to P-5 OC
Actually Lewis received a raise by taking what Colorado gave him, at a the Flashes HC he was making $530,000 a year

Don’t think he would’ve been on the hotseat at all. Last year, KSU had paycheck games against UGA, Washington and OU. He's over .500 in conference during his tenure and won the division in one of those years, something they've only done once before.

In 2 of the years he had offenses ranked 1 and 5 in total offense. It's Kent State and to be doing that at all is a pretty good accomplishment.

See what the coach before him did and what he accomplished that was rarely if ever accomplished there. It doesn't mean he's the 2nd coming but he probably reached about what was potential for Kent State.

It's only one game so we have to see but if he can keep the offense going at Colorado during his tenure, he'll get better offers higher in the G5 or in the P5.

From the article:

Actually, it was more of an inflection point for Lewis in his career. Nielsen was desperate when he fired Paul Haynes in 2017 after a 14-45 run over five seasons. Only four coaches in program history ended with winning records at the school. Nick Saban's alma mater deserved better.

Two seasons later, Lewis coached the Flashes to their first bowl victory. Kent State won a MAC division title for only the second time ever in 2021.

Col LB coach Nick Wiliams played LB/S at Georgia in 2010 and then had some NFL/CFL years.
He had been working for free at GA and Texas Tech as an assistant.
He was told he would never make it as a coach.
Sanders brought him in and now he's very greatful and can keep the wolf away from the door.
Things like this are why leaving Jackson became the best thing for a lot of people

Williams was a Defensive Analyst at Texas A&M when Colorado hired him
He joined the A&M staff in May 2021 and helped the Aggies recruit the No. 1 ranked signing class in the nation in 2022.
Before that he was on the staff at Georgia for three seasons, as a student assistant in 2018 and then as a graduate assistant for the 2019-20 seasons,

It sounds like he really hasn't been in coaching very long

No, that was the HBCU showcase game. They will never be in the FCS playoffs and try to beat North Dakota St, Montana St, William and Mary, etc

They can, they just decide to play in the Celebration Bowl instead.

Why? Nobody her seems to love or perhaps even like Dabo, Saban or Jimbo. Dabo is under fire right now in the press for being stuck in the past. Saban? Bwa ha ha ha. Nobody really likes him. Jimbo? He may be one of the more disliked coaches out there, or at least the most laughed at for running a crap show at the Aggies.

No he hasn't been a coach long and he wasn't encouraged to be one by many
He worked free for 2 years as an assistant for GA
He went to Texas A&M as a "Defensive Analyst" where the job ad to replace him says salary is 44-56K.
The salaries for 10 analysts at LSU = "a combined $595,000. The salaries range from $30,000 (former NFL assistant Donovan Jackson) to $76,500 (Ronnie Wheat)."
Williams was known as an up and coming recuiter.

Williams spoke to team (2nd half of clip) after TCU win.
The first parr is a Prime speech trying to bring the fells back down to earth.
This is the speech Schiano should have given team after Louisville.
That CIncy loss never has toi happen but players werr out in space all week.

Rick George: What you see is what you get. The man is "mad cool" and a perfect fit for Prime. Although George graduated from U. of Illinois, he's been a part of Colorado since the late 80s. Even when he was in the front office for the Texas Rangers, he was all CU Buffs. Rick George will walk the earth to get Prime, whatever he needs to succeed at CU.

I can honestly say I've never heard an encouraging attitude from Saban
He always seems sour - like he's having a bad day.
Dabo reminds me of a NASCAR guy and I hate hee-haw vibes
Kirby smart is ok but to be honest all these guys seem like chips off the same block.
Of course kelly at LSU is the worst of all by far.

Spoeaking of LSU - ever hear the crowds fav theme song "Neck" as played by band and sung by fans?
They usually get a fine for it since one line is "Suck that tiger's d__k b_tch!"

You won't find trailer park stuff in Colorado program.
I 've been reading and watching stuff about Buf team and I think I've seen 3 tats and no gold teeth

The same is true at Colorado - might be most likeable team ever

Saban spread rumor that that Travis hunter got 1 mil from Jackson to get him to leave FSU but he never got money:

"We have a rule right now that said you cannot use name, image and likeness to entice a player to come to your school," Saban said. "Hell, read about it in the paper. I mean, Jackson State paid a guy a million dollars last year that was a really good Division I player to come to school. It was in the paper and they bragged about it. Nobody did anything about it.”

Hunter responded to that claim in a tweet Thursday morning, denying that he received a million dollars to play at Jackson State.

"I got a mil[lion]," Hunter said. "But my mom still stay in a 3-bedroom house with five kids"

After the TCU game George ran over to Prime and hugged him so hard I thouht Prime's eyes would pop out lol.
The chemistry out there is amazing. I just hope Sanders' health keeps together.

He's like reverse Dabo in philosophy.

From the article:

Sanders famously remade the CU roster, coming off a 1-11 season, by using the transfer portal, bringing in at least 51 players. Colorado was arguably the worst Power Five team in the country last year, losing its 11 games by an average of 32.4 points a game.

He’s repeatedly stated that he expects to only recruit a select number of high schoolers because getting proven and older players out of the portal is smarter. Colorado has just nine verbal commits from the Class of 2024.

“Why would you take the chance [on a high school kid] when you already have a plethora of kids who have been to college, made the adjustment and you know what’s wrong with them or what’s right with them?” Sanders told Barstool’s "Pardon My Take."

Five stars, however, are different. And they appear to be listening. That might be because Sanders speaks differently than other coaches, both in style and substance.

Sean Lewis has been highly regarded in coaching circles for a long time and is considered on of the best offensive minds in college. He is also a big Alpha dog, Prime is probably the only guy at the college level for whom he would have considered going back to being an OC. If he leaves Colorado it would be for a good P5 head coaching job, or maybe an OC job in the NFL.

Five stars, however, are different. And they appear to be listening. That might be because Sanders speaks differently than other coaches, both in style and substance.

Part of the backstory is that the university had to change regulations to get portal players in.
They way things were, there were choke points and red tape preventing a lot of transfers.
AD Rick George, President Todd Saliman and Sanders knew what they were going to do from the start.
They knew they didn't have time for a years long project.
George was nearing end of contract, fans were gone and so was the money (they didn't have the money for Sanders yet).
The new president seems like a solid sports guy and he likes that Col already had a 0.5 enrollment increase for fall semester.

“We don’t know exactly why there was that swing, but I suspect (Coach Prime) has something to do with it,” Saliman said. “There’s this excitement and people want to be part of it, including students.”

As for 5 stars - Prime wants the best players but he will be picky.
Parents will love Prime but of course many of them have loyalties to LSU, Bama et al
Colorado players are so classy they hardly have tats, and they don't even do the fanny shake dances and such after a score

The sports shows with ex-pros that do football have been very emphatic that what's going on in Colorado is phenomenal.
I know other coaches have to be apprehensive about competing for the best players.

It's simple - you either love him, or hate him
There's really no in between

He's a polarizing figure
A true winner

But controversial and over the top

I neither hate nor love him. If it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't ever give him any thought at all. Like KS said above, I like to see people win out over the haters though. And the team is an underdog story which is fun to watch.

He does seem to be polarizing, but I think that's more about how people, nowadays, allow themselves to be easily polarized by everything and less about anything Sanders is doing.

Trey Sanders was at Alabama in 2019 suffered a broken foot that sidelined him for the year and forced him to take a medical redshirt that year
In 2020 he was involved in a serious car accident during the team's bye week.
The wreck left him with internal injuries as well as a fractured pelvis, something that would put him in a wheelchair
Came back in 2021 and played in 13 games
2022 played in 10
Transferred to TCU for the 2023 season
Kid had some tough breaks, but give credit to Saben for not finding a way to get him off the roster.

Hope: After Multiple Setbacks, Trey Sanders Continues to Build Confidence - Sports Illustrated Alabama Crimson Tide News, Analysis and More
>“I think Coach Saban was one of the main persons who kept me going throughout the process because it was times where I felt like I couldn’t do it," Sanders said. "It was times I was in a wheelchair and I was just rolling around the facility and going out to practice, watching other dudes practice and stuff like that. I wasn’t able to go out there and practice, and Coach Saban would call me into meetings and he’d talk to me and he’d give me hope on the future.<

It was Peggy and her twin sister (deceased) who have been part of the fabric of Colorado for decades. If you played for CU, it was required to pay your respects to them all the time. They acted as everyone's grandmothers. Much respect to Peggy.
