OT: Prime Time will crash and burn

I wouldn't believe any coach about the long term, at least not initially.

Truly good coaches will get other offers. And if the offer fits what the coach wants professionally and personally, then it makes sense for them to take it. I'd never blame any coach for doing what's best for them and their family. They don't marry schools, they get paid to work for them. And they can be fired the moment they fail to perform.

Pretty sure, based on the evidence, that coaches typically have vastly different mindsets about this stuff than fans. Fans often form almost unbreakable bonds with their chosen teams/schools. Coaches often do not.
Agree, whether it's coaches or players they can do whatever they feel is in their best interests. School should also do the same thing.

ESPN+ paywall article. They spoke to 6 coaches/scouts and all think they will be lose lopsided against Oregon. They think Colorado players play with passion but they don't have enough of talent to keep up with better teams. OL is an issue and not being able to run is also an issue. Sanders has been hit 55 times this year, most in college. Defense is considered fairly simple. If everything goes well, 6-8 wins is prediction about their potential.

IMO if he does that, he's done a great job for year 1 as far as on the field results.

From the article:

The half-dozen coaches and scouts ESPN spoke to all predicted a lopsided loss this weekend when No. 19 Colorado plays at No. 9 Oregon.

"I think Oregon is going to boat race them," an opposing assistant coach said. "Oregon is different upfront. There's a lot of bark, not much bite to Colorado. When they run into the bigger dogs in the Pac-12, it's going to come to an end."

The nature of Colorado's roster makeover and the influx of players after spring football have led to basic schemes that talented offensive teams should be able to exploit. Colorado is ranked below No. 100 nationally in total defense (No. 122), passing yards allowed (No. 107), rushing defense (No. 119) and scoring defense (No. 102).

Some of that is tied to the pace Colorado plays, as offenses like Lewis' tend to leave defenses hamstrung. Still, there are areas coaches think will be exploited.

"The schemes are simple," an opposing assistant coach said. "I just think there's a lack of pressures, and you don't see a lot of coverages -- there's man, zone and not much else."

I get it...and I also get that it seems like he is a hell of a HC but...I just feel his game is really more about himself and all the posturing is not for his team but for him.
It's entirely possible he's very narcissistic. I wouldn't think that to be unusual in great coaches.

The irony with such people is, they can be very effective and a very positive influence in player's lives. Yeah, they're using the players (and the media and everyone else) to get what they want. But by the same token, they're very predictable, so players and the media can use them, manipulate them, as long as they can be useful to them.

It's not exactly a great and caring relationship, it's pretty fake and cold. But it can be beneficial to all parties.

Not saying that's the case here. But it's possible.

I think that's what's healthiest for everyone. Except maybe us fans, who often respond like we caught our significant other sleeping with someone else.

"How dare that coach abandon us for a $10M/year raise?"

"How dare that player switch to a school where he gets more playing time, and ups his odds of having a $30M career?"

"They're all horrible people for not giving that up and being loyal to me, uh, I mean, to the team."

Fair but I think your describing all college football not just Colorado and Deion

The only problem I have with Prime is that I would never be able to believe a word he says about long term.

I can see him one more year at Col at most, then he is gone.

He already said he doesn't like the NFL because players get "huge bags of money and then dont want to play."

Deion has always like kids and coaching them.

People don't know Sanders was a high school offensive coordinator (Trinity Christian School) for three years before Jackson. Before and during that time, Sanders was doing youth leagues. He still does camps for youths. A good number of CFB players know Deion from his camps and thats a reason he gets into convos with opposing players. Some of those players are trying to transfer..

Right now Colorado is filling-up with money, talent and attention - its not a team "doing well" but is a juggernaut rewriting the book on CFB in the new Portal/NIL era. Sanders is in a beautiful location where the college appreciates the scene. How many colleges will let Deion wear a 5 lb crucifix and do away with captains and use Ls and Ds for leaders and Dawgs? Deion told Sapp to come coach and that he doesn't have to stay to 9PM and put-in 60 hr weeks. Try THAT with Schiano.

The corporate CFB programs wont interest Dieon. I wouldn't completely rule out FSU or a team Deion knows well and loves but right now they are all dinosaurs and Colorado is the new model. Other teams are stuck with one foot in traditional CFB and the new Portal/NIL model thats moving past semi-pro to pro. Shedeur has high paying deals with Mercedes, Kentucky Fried. Tom Brady line and Gatorade among others.

Think those deals would be worth more if he played at Bama or OSU? No because Buffs have all the eyes and electricity - setting TV records. Recruits and Players are banging on the doors to get in. Deione doesn't even have to fly around the country recruiting. if he doesn't want. All this is not a new page but a new era and Buffs caught lightening in a bottle. The main threat as I see it is Sanders health and that's a biggie

Yes, that's why I wrote I don't think it's unusual for coaches. 🙂

Narcissism and type-A personalities seem to correlate well with strong leadership capabilities. At least, it appears that way to me.

Ahh, got it ! Sorry missed that but I do agree

Dude dirty plays happen all the time in football. It was a late hit. So what? That's what personal fouls are for. It wasn't even a targetting penalty.

You want to kick out every single player who has had a late hit or unnecessary roughness? How soft are you? There would be no players left. You don't think Deion was never called for a personal foul his entire career or had any late hits?

It's obvious this was an emotional response from everyone involved. The fact that the player was white only makes it worse. Deion and his team don't need anyone making death threats at players. It's football they can handle themselves, they're big boys.

At this point I'm not sure what's worse anymore - making a dirty hit that busted a #1 recruit's liver in the moment of play, or people who calmly watch replays and make excuses for dirty hits. The players color isn't an issue because many black players were doing cheap shots as well - one being tossed for targeting.

If JJ Watt, Richard Sherman, Micah Parsons and other pro players were shocked by the dirty play then that's the bottom line. There are cheap shot and sucker punch type dirty plays, We see a lot more cheap shots than sucker punches and those should not be excused. Football is hard enough without being sucker punched when ball is dead and the player is relaxing but still tangled-up with another defender

But they're the current poster child.
They are the fab five of college football!

They will loose to Oregon with out Hunter most likely. However now we know what an actual turn around and being relevant ( top of the world). in the new NIL world looks like.

Why isn't the other kid with the targetting foul getting death threats? Guess what? Cheap shots happen all the time in football. They're called personal fouls and they happen multiple times a game. Even Deion is dismissing the whole thing. It's football.

He didn't leave Shedeur broken on the ground with a cut liver - and out of the game.
Plus Shedeur saw the defender coming at him while Hunter was sucker-popped
The targeting was dirty but it was the kind of dirty we see every week - Shedeur at least had option to drop and take a sack.

Deion isn't "dismissing" - he's "forgiving" in his words.
You don't forgive something that didn't happen
The league and State coaches had the option to put a penalty/suspension on after the game like other conferences/coaches have but they chose to let it fester and Sander's wasn't going to keep attached to the drama.

This is a Hunter type after-the-play type cheap shot and Les Miles suspended the transgressor

I mean that LSU video a completely different situation. Lol.

You're acting like the CSU player intentionally tried to "cut his liver". It was a late hit. Just like you see multiple times every Saturday and Sunday. The only reason people want this kid to get disqualified is because they want to felatio Deion.

Sort of like you. In your world Deion and anyone associated with Colorado can do no wrong and they need to be protected at all cost.

It is football and things happen but clearly intentional and after the play. It was meant to send a message and Blackburn standing over him further showed his intent. Discipline of one’s actions are determined by outcomes . Suspend the young man and move on. Death treats are ridiculous. It is football bad things happen unfortunately.

They have some big games coming up. Sanders and his staff have done a great job. To turnover this roster and then win within one year is incredible. I’m sure some of the haters want to see Colorado lose big over the next few weeks. The Col story has helped the sport immensely, Over 9 Mill plus

Agree . I don’t love sanders, but I don’t understand the hate .
He’s done a good job there so far.

If Coach Prime starts losing... what happens? Can his ego take it? Can he build off it?

This is a good show.

I think what happens with Sanders is this- he is like a warrior who may wins tons of medals but not the guy you really want in a foxhole with you. I would feel like if I got injured, he is leaving my ass there as he is trying to figure out how he can get his own ass out of there and look like a hero.

It may not be true but that is the best comparison I can come up with that may explain it

I don’t get the analogy. You’re comparing college football to being in a foxhole during a war ?

We'll have to wait and see what happens. I have nothing against the guy so I hope, when things get rough, he rides it out okay.

Identifying people with whom you'd want to share a foxhole is more of a concept, more idiom than analogy. So no, he is NOT making that comparison at all.

Has to do with wanting people around who are reliable, trustworthy, honorable, good company and will have your back when the going gets rough.

Then why not just say he thinks sanders is not reliable , trustworthy , honorable , good company …??

The hate comes from the RU blind Schiano apologists. They realize Schiano should have been gone last year for a horrific unwatchable season. They constantly give excuses like patience, facilities , inherited a bad team, NIL, etc.

What Deion stepped into was far worse then Rutgers on every level. Deion in 3 weeks has taken every excuse Schiano loyalists have and literally blown it out of the water.

They are pissed if Deion was here what we could have been. So now they are praying Schiano makes a bowl game but realize he will never have the impact Deion has had.l so the hate builds.

Deion has to fail because everything they believe for the last 4 years has been pulled out from under them .

Schiano clearly has made strides this year in the first 3 weeks against inferior talent but it is NO where near the impact Deion has had. He has a good chance tomorrow but his game plan and adjustments will be crucial.

That’s where the hate comes from.

One driver gets stopped for doing 90 mph on a 65 mph highway
Another get stopped for doing 105 mph
Both get tickets for speeding
Both Col State and LSU had players made dirty hits on plays they knew were over - one just took a extra two seconds

I mean last year Christian Izien was penalized with a late hit after Ohio State ran a fake punt up 30 points.

Not all "late hits" are the same. I thought Izien was right.

An authoritarian manner just cracks some people's psyches open.

That hit was by Cruickshank.
It was a late hit but not a sucker punch
Guys not used to playing defense often get in trouble making tackles near the sidelines they have trouble sensing

Because he's not writing for halfwits? 😉

I kid, I kid. 😁

An idiom can often do a better job of conveying a level of meaning that goes deeper than mere words. I think that's why they exist, idioms.
I don’t know why any of those traits really matter . Sanders is a professional football coach . He will be judged by wins and losses , like every other coach. It’s a pretty objective system.

I dunno. I like GS more for the person he appears to be than for the coach he appears to be.

If GS was a total asshole, I would be far less patient with him. Same with any coach.

You don't value the person, just the coach. I value both.

But even he has said that doesn’t matter if he doesn’t win football games.

He will be...And he seems to be very good and I also think he really does care about each kid every time he speaks directly to them.
And the thing I was trying to say was not even factual but in response to the question of why some people just don't like him.
It was the best I could come up with. The guy will do things to be a hero but there is just something about him that some people just get an uneasy feel about.

Myself- if he came to the house recruiting...I am sure I would have a blast with him, but almost no chance he leaves with my son's verbal.

As I write- I think it just came to me. I remember people saying how there are certain HC's that you could meet in a packed gymnasium and even though there are thousands of people, many much more important that you, when that coach stopped to talk to you for 5 seconds, they made you feel like you were the only person in the room. I had heard that about Urban Myer. Greg actually has that as well. He talks to a fan in a crowded room and that fan walks away feeling it was such a great one on one. With Dion, no matter how earnest he may be, it always feels like he is there to put on a show for everyone else.

Shedeur has said he's returning to Colorado next year intstead if entering draft
Deion doesn't want him a #2 QB drafted after Caleb Williams.
He wont need the money in Colorado

Some trivia - only three players got a 100 rating on Madden: Jerry RIce, Barry Sanders and Deion

Coaches don’t sign lifetime contracts, so his leaving didn’t bother me at all. And why don’t you tell us what those reports say about GS. I’m not reading them.
