OT: Reporter and camerman shot on live tv in Virginia

What does mental health support mean? Does that mean restricting guns from mentally ill people?

And please spare me on "we have gun control" BS. Anyone can get a gun in about 3 minutes. It's a joke.

You are full of $h!t....this is exactly what is wrong with america. We have blowhards talking out of their rears without any knowledge on the subject matter. Try and get a gun in 3 minutes. I dare you. ANd if you do, you got it illegaly and you've now answered your own questions about what is wrong with the LAW in america. Easy for criminals, tough for law abiding citizens.

the simple answer to this is that there is no simple answer... yes you can make gun laws as strict as possible...Unfortunately, I think that would only delay someone like this from obtaining a gun.. as he apparently passed the background checks to obtain the gun right? So I'm guessing he didn't have any criminal history.. I really don't think there is any one clear solution that would stop someone as determined as this guy from carrying out what he did.. This guy probably woke up yesterday morning knowing he was gonna never see another sunrise, and still went out and did what he did.. How do you stop that? Now for the record, I don't own a gun, or ever want to.. I have friends who do, and have gone to ranges with them and have a healthy respect for guns..

Cars, on average, require 30 feet less distance to stop from 70 mph now than they did 40 years ago. Why haven't the speed limits been modified to take advantage of that?

Wasn't there a 55 MPH federal speed limit 40 years ago?

I'm sure you have a point, but you'll have to forgive me... It seems that so often lately reading this board is a lot like watching a chimp with a locked suitcase.

Yes; a 55 mph speed limit was federally instituted in 1974 due to the oil price spike and gas crisis at the time, with the guise that it would maximize fuel efficiency. This was raised in '87-88 to 65 mph, then fully repealed in 1995, which returned full authority on speed limits back to the states.

Are you seriously going take my 3 minute comment literally? I'm pretty sure every knows that depending on state and town it can take anywhere from a few days to a few months.

I'm not taking your comment literally. I'm taking your suggestion that its too easy to get a gun and going to town with it knucklehead. How long should it take? 3 years? Is that the proper time?

I'm going to come up with a scenario and assault your civil rights and attack something that you probably enjoy in the name of safety.....

Way too many people get hurt from drinking. Whether it be from intoxicated drivers, bar fights, vandalisms, rape. From now on every time you want to go out and drink you need to pass a background check. Once you pass you will have a permit that you can use to get into a bar. If you want to go out another night, you need to reapply. Each permit will cost you 10 bucks, and you can get 3 at at time, but You also have to wait 30 days between nights out though just to give you time to cool off and make sure you really want to drink again. (If you mess up and commit a crime, you will not be able to get these permits. I agree with this part for gun control).

I know you are going to think this is a crazy idea, but think about how many lives will be saved. There will be less crime, less vandalism, more safety on the streets. It will also generate revenue. Why dont you want to do this? Why don't you want to sign up for this? Are you not sick of all the death? - said in a liberal d!psh!t condescending tone.
