OT: Snow Blower Help!

Had to do this for both of my neighbors yesterday.....I always put startron in my fuel so it stays. And always turn the gas off and let the machine run until it dies out at the end of the season so there is no gas left in the carb over the summer.
----
This is probably the most important tip, running it dry..... I also start with fresh gas each year, with the ethanol shield, or stabilizers mentioned... Can't hurt, might make a difference.......

I hope everyone who reads this thread follows this in the future.

Trade it in on a single stage Honda. Went through the snow like a champ. Honda reliability.

This. MTD is a cheap, Chinese brand. Not to mention the OP's machine is way too small for the job. Probably passable for small snows of a few inches, but will be nothing but frustrating (too small, too unreliable) beyond that. Get the right tools for the job. I have a 28" single stage Honda and it handled the snow yesterday without issue, and quickly.

The RU community is the best! Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Curious, should the blower feel very heavy? It felt like 100lbs of dead weight. I'm hopeful that, once fixed, it will feel more maneuverable.
If you hold it off the ground it will feel heavy. Like you said, the paddles pull it along, same principle of a vacuum with an agitator bar. The bar rotating against the carpet helps pull it along. If the paddles are warn out it
Could also be your fuel filter is clogged. Also check air filter. Run the engine for about 15 seconds with air filter off (in the garage) and see if it runs better. If yes, then replace or clean air filter.

If your gas has been sitting around for more than 90 days, that may also be your issue. Drain and refill.

Coleman fuel is a type of NAPHTHA aka lighter fluid or white gas. Also used as a solvent. Other types of NAPHTHA are used in producing gasoline. Stuff is very flammable. I would not recommend using it. If you live near Pennsylvania, you may be able to find a gas station that sells ethanol free gas.

Good luck. Please fix your snow blower as soon as possible. Once it is fixed, it will never snow again. :)
Snow blowers don't have air filters. Their thinking is there won't be dust in the snow.
If the gas is drained out of the carb bowl at the end of the season then your carb will never clog up or have issues. You have to loosen the screw that is on the bottom of the bowl to drain it.

I can say I have been using Stabil the past few years and it appears to be worthless. Wish I could get out to get some Sea Foam...

Finally got around to replacing my console on my Husqvarna ST224 snow blower. It sucked, it's made of plastic that flexes. Plastic and cold dont mix well. Anyone else have this issue? I wish I got a Ariens originally. Not that is snows anymore in Central Jersey anyway. Next step is to make sure it runs.

I bought an Ariens well over 2 yrs. ago. I have yet to use it and the warranty has run out. Right now, it goes down as one of the worst purchases of my life.

Is it still in the box and serving as a work table in your barn? Tables are quite expensive- that purchase has some value!

Finally took it out of the box last year for the predicted blizzard of 2023 as 8" to 10" were expected. Woke up to maybe 3" on the ground. I back bladed that over with the front loader. Now thinking about it, it's closer to 3 yrs.

Is anyone out there still using a shovel?
I've never used anything but a shovel. Snowblowers are an affront to all that is holy about a beautiful, peaceful snow covered scene - if I had the power to banish these noisy contraptions from the Earth I would, lol. Of course, when it snows around here and it's going to be more than 3-4", I always do multiple shovelings, partly because it gives me an excuse to be out in the snow (apart from my regular measurements) and partly because I don't want to be another heart attack statistic by trying to shovel too much snow.

Since you love snow so much, how did you feel when the refs threw a flag on the MSU players this past Saturday for making snow angel in the end zone? I thought it was harmless fun, actually.

I loved it, since it was against MSU, lol. I don't get the angst against celebrations, myself - was great fun watching the Bills players enjoying the snow tonight - and the fans.

First- I have to say- I panicked when I just opened the thread and it made me look outside.
But then saw it was from 8 years ago.

As for shoveling- I never had a large driveway(nothing more than maybe big enough for 6 cars- so a snow blower never made sense. Until we built our house back in 2007 and just the upper “landing alone could fit 6 cars easy outside our garages. And then a drive way tgat went a good 75 ft or so on a slope.
But, since it was all brand new pavers, the wife wouldn’t allow it. So, I shoveled all that by hand for 12 years.
I finally convinced her that it was just too much and got a snow blower and it has pretty much stopped snowing ever since lol

We have a fairly short (50'), downhill driveway, which helps. If we had a really long driveway, I would simply shovel out the bottom part of it for the cars and then shovel a walkway from the cars to the garage/house, as hand shoveling a very long driveway would not be fun.

At our house we built- the cars were never left out in the snow...But funny you mentioned- back in those days- There was a snowstorm where my old ass self was shoving up top near the garages- and our oldest- pulls up, looks at the 20 inches of snow, asks for me to grab him a shovel- I bring it down, happy that I have some help. He proceeded to shovel enough space to pull his car into the driveway- a single path up to where I am shoveling and puts the shovel in the garage and walks in...😕

The house I am at now- the house is below the roadline and a very steep slope- just no easy way to do it...and we are not leaving our car out in the snow
