OT: Syracuse

Syracuse is most likely losing the next 6 games and then the crap bowl that goes to a 6-6 ACC team , to finish the year 6-7. Not hating. Thats just how I see it .
ND lost at home to Marshall and Stanford (IIRC a team that hadn't beaten a P5 in like the last 10-11 games). Cuse is at home so they can win that. BC is winnable as well. The others left on the schedule are anywhere from 50-50 to they likely lose IMO. Realistically, I think 1 or 2 more is possible. If they were to lose 6 in a row, that would just totally take off any shine they have currently. It's just an okay season at best given the start.

Well since I used the word and you just copied me, I'm pretty sure you're part of the referenced laggards. Eventually you'll see the light, but it just takes your type of fan some time.

Try again...I'm not overly optimistic nor pessimistic. Need to see more. I just don't understand the overly pessimistic types.

Since you keep missing the point, let me pose it another way. How does it help the RU Football team on the field if you convince an optimistic fan to suddenly "see the light" and become pessimistic?

Is it actually good?
I just can't get past that it's in Syracuse, NY.
How good could it be?
I mean, it could be that when we were up visiting, the food and experience with that place stood out against the otherwise bleak and forbidding environment. But I still order a couple of their BBQ sauces from the internet, so it couldn't have been that bad.

GTFO… Absolutely not…
We scored 16 against Temple and 10 against Iowa. Iowa is 7th in total defense. SU is 8th. Where would all these points come from?
Again… You are underestimating our D…. What makes you so confident they would score??

They frankly haven’t been challenged and their schedule at this point is much weaker than ours. They played a wounded NC State team missing their QB who is elite. They have played ONE away game at UCONN.

The point I am making… Is that people (especially Rutgers fans) that are making claims that these guys would clean our clocks isn’t accurate. It would be a competitive game based on the data points. I guarantee you give them our schedule they wouldn’t be undefeated.

OSU would beat them by the same score… I think Iowa would give them a battle with the top D they have and frankily Nebraska would be another shootout based on Purdue outcomes.

I am not saying we would win but firmly saying it would a dogfight. People are so hyper focused on our O (which GS is making moves to fix) and totally casting asside the elite D we are rolling with.

This is what I always figured. After surviving the near-hypothermia and instant demise a visit to the Siberacuse tundra entails, any meal is destined to be the best meal of your life.

I like our defense but Iowa is dead last in total offense, Temple is 126th and Nebraska is 56th. What great offenses have we shut down? It doesnt matter if they had our schedule or not. No one cares about that. They care about wins. Not who we lose to.

You are changing the discussion…

I am trying explain my position based on data points outside of record. Just because they are undefeated doesn’t mean they are good. Just because we are 3-3 with loses to OSU, Iowa and Nebraska doesn’t mean we are bad.

When looking at EVERYTHING and not just the numbers next to W & L… The teams are about equal. Our D is being significantly underrated and their O significantly overrated.

Let’s see how things play out but to sit here and argue they would crush us is silly…

I don’t care about them being undefeated. My point is that you use other games scores to determine results of a game but don’t factor in what we have done. We don’t truly know how good or bad their opponents are. How can you look at scores and determine how equal two teams are?

I am not using just scores… I’ve watched them.. I’m looking at thier stats and our stats and looking at them in context of who we both have played.

Again.. You have no statistics that would show they would crush us. Let see what happens the next six games.

They caught a break today ( NCS QB out) and will lose the last 6. Watch and enjoy. Amazing how many of our so called fans took every game played today to take a shot at RU. What a bunch of assholes on this board.
Getting close to my prediction. And I also stand by my last line in that post. When Cuse loses again next week which of the idiot posters on this board will have the balls to say they know nothing about football???

Who knows how it would have played out, but they could have won a game or two in this stretch with a healthy Shrader.

I think the takeaway from Syracuse’s season is that good things happen when you have a QB to build an offensive identity around. They found that midway through last year, and had some success this season because of it. We don’t have that yet (not a critique of GW, he’s just not at that point yet), and haven’t had success.

5 in a row….

Come on BC (that’s tough to say)

WOW. They’re 6-0 after beating NC State today. Hopefully we come out of the rebuild in a couple years and have similar results!
SIAP -- I can't help but notice that since beating NC State, they've lost five in a row. So they're 6-5. We'd probably do at least as well against their schedule. It will be interesting to see how they do against Boston College on Saturday.

Moral: never post about a season until it's over, just as one should never post in the middle of a game.

My prediction was 6-8 for them and for Kansas too despite the fast starts of both teams. Didn’t change the low end of my ranges despite 5-0/6-0 starts.

ND is a weird bird this year. That post was before their Clemson win and maybe UNC too I don’t remember. They lose to Stanford and Marshall at home but then demolish Clemson and beat UNC. One half cruising 35-7 against Navy and then squeak by 35-32. So who knows with them what team you get.

BC has a lot of injuries so Cuse has a shot for that one to notch 7. An okay season at either 6 or 7 but like I said losing 6 in a row definitely would take off quite a bit of the shine of a fast start.

Programs like them, if you get 6 wins it’s a solid season but if they lose 6 in a row that takes some luster off.

We get it, you've been gloating about a 6-8 win prediction this entire thread when they already had 5 wins. Congratulations you're a guru who gave himself a 3 game +/- WOW!!!!

It's not a gloat nor is it meant to be, I could give a flying freak but it's continuously brought up eh well they lost so many games in a row, see it's nothing special. If people want to keep putting down these accomplishments of other schools similar to our status, I'm gonna say it's not completely unexpected or surprising and was in the range of possible outcomes even when these teams were undefeated on the cusp of much more. I I was even questioned by another poster in one of these threads why still keeping it at 6 when a team is at 5 or 6 already. The point is it's not completely surprising or unexpected and should be just taken for what it is, a respectable satisfactory season.

I don't like repeating stuff here but not everyone sees everything in every thread and I see the same points brought up so I'll bring up the counterpoint repeatedly as well.

The difference between Syracuse last year and this year is a new offensive coordinator and QB coach. Their O line is no better than ours, but they have a coordinator who knows how to use a dual threat QB.

Syracuse losing doesn’t help us win games. I know some of our fans are off the charts negative and have already moved on to Vandy and G Tech lol. They will always find someone to point to.

I mention these underdog programs and their accomplishments often. Just did it in the hope thread. I like underdogs (like most probably do) and I see us in them. We can achieve things too.

I see continuous doom and gloom over NIL or portal or what have you. I think quite a few are in a Rutgers bubble and don’t know what’s happening out there. It’s good to see that programs of our status can achieve things and be respectable. We can do some of these things as well.

From what I took from Schiano’s Maryland report today is we are still working on NIL but it is far from being a sure thing where Rutgers can at least match up in the dollar column.
