This is a disgrace

Was watching an early performance on the Tube the other day and it revived my interest in them. Their energy and creativity is without question but their breadth of their catalog and the fact that they produced 2 of the most iconic songs both very difrerent from each other one decade a part. One a new wave/ surf punk opus and then a 80s pop classic. In between all kinds of great songs. Throw in the longevity of 40 years plus on the touring scene

I see they have been eligible since 2004..wtf is going on here

Seriously. Why not add Flock of Seagulls and Kajagoogooo?? C’mon bac!! Bball season cannot come fast enough I’m chalking this post up to your eagerness to do game recaps.
Better here than the Round Table.

Wow the smashing pumpkins and phish didn’t get in. One the biggest shoe gaze rock band and the other the biggest jam band. Who votes in this thing. Both massive and influential bands.

I confess that I am as about unhip as a person can be. But I even shock myself as I couldn't name a song by 80% of the people shown on these lists.

Motorhead- Ace of Spades
Iggy Pop- I Want to Be Your Dog
Siousie- Kiss them for Me
Joy Division- Love Will Tear us Apair
Devo- Whip It
Iron Maiden- Run to the Hills
Weird Al- Eat It
The B-52's- Rock Lobsters
Lucinda Williams-?
Ozzy- Bark at the Moon
INXS- New Sensation
The Go-Go's- Alex the Seal--Our Lips our Sealed
The Replacements- Alex Chilton
Husker Du- Dead Set on Destructions
Motley Crue- Doctor Feelgood
New Order- Blue Monday
Ice-T- OG
Violent Femmes- Blister in the Sun
Bad Brains- I Against I
Sonic Youth- 100%
Slayer- Ghost of War
Cyndi Lauper- Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Pantera- Cowboys from Hell
The Smiths- How Soon is Now
Nick Cave- Henry Lee
Flaming Lips- She Don't Use Jelly
Dinosaur Jr- Start Choppin'
Guided By Voices- Bulldog Skin
Lyle Lovett-? (saw him in an airport once)- Song was on the movie The Firm

Because the B52’s sucked ass! That’s why!

De La Soul - me, myself, and I
Wu Tang - C.R.E.A.M.
Outkast - Bombs over Baghdad
The Roots - You Got Me
Daft Punk - One More Time

Oh, and how about The Scorpions.

eligible since 1997 but have yet to be nominated in spite of the fact it is the most successful rock act to call Germany home, in addition to having several FM radio anthems to its credit, notably "Rock You Like A Hurricane", "No One Like You" and "Big City Nights".
5 platinum, 3 gold albums.

I did that list without looking. The newer artists, I would not be so good at. Too many pop and rap artists that are fine artists, but not deserving of rock hall of fame, IMO.

As a B-52s fan I find this thread to be interesting. Dance This Mess Around is one of my favorites. Kate Pierson wore a beehive well.

The problem is that superlatives in art make little sense.
I enjoy asking the following two questions at parties:
1. What is the best rock band of all time?
2. What is the best American rock band of all time?

If maiden and judas priest can't get in... then f the b-52s and their 2 hits.

I am fully in agreement that more than half the artists in there don't deserve to be, hell, they don't have anything to do with Rock 'N Roll as far as I'm concerned.

Not my style or era. I can name more than a couple of Judas Priest and Maiden songs and see their lasting influence on the rock genre.

But that wasn't the point you made. The B-52's had considerably more than 2 hits (and, no, I'm not a fan) and were an influential part of the New Wave movement in the late 70's and early 80's.

1. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
2. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

This is based on live performance, which is the true measure of a rock band. I cannot think of another band that presents and weaves all of the key elements of a rock band, singer, guitars, bass, drums, piano, organ and sax (and sometimes horns) better than Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band. 3 to 4 hour (some longer) epic live performances.

If the question was best rock and roll recording artist of all time, the answer would be different.
1. The Beatles or Led Zeppelin
2. The Eagles or Metallica

Of those 4, not a huge fan of either The Beatles or The Eagles, a fan of Led Zeppelin, and big fan of Metallica. Eagles would beat out Metallica, but the excellence of Master of Puppets, And Justice for All and the Black Album cannot be denied.

I counted 26 songs that you listed by bands I never heard of (meaning the bands).

Hey, just because you're jealous of his flowing locks.....
He's morphing into Jane Fonda. For a while back in the 1990's, he toured with Southside Johnny (he name Southside Johnny as a huge influence) as rhythm guitarist. I tolerated his presence, but really did not see any added attraction. I respect what he and his band did in terms of touring an record sales success. To me, their music is OK and tolerable.

But he's know Minnie Riperton!

lmfao...2 hits, haha I thought this board was well read on music

meanwhile didnt shitty Bon Jovi just get inducted for what I have no clue
Bon Jovi- politics. The Rock N Roll Hall of Shame is a joke. There are tons of artists that are in, and should not be. As well as tons of artists who should get in, but have not. Many never considered. The B-52's are at least original and imaginative.
I hold no illusions. I'm waiting for a nu-metal band to get in before Faith No More. Who were the first to do that type of music. This Hall is aptly placed in Cleveland.
