OT: Xanadu/American Dream Update

You people have no vision. The Dhimmicrats can live there with their buddies MS-13 & Hamas.

Just some highlights:
Bloomberg Big Gulp Fountain
Menendez Prostitute Kiosk
Moochy Obama's Tranny Dress Up Shoppe
Killary's House of Hard Drive Cleaning
Al Sharpton Blame Whitey Dippin' Dots

And trump’s Moscow West.

Also there was a thing a while back that the IZOD Center was going to be a part of this but turned into an amphitheater for Cirq du Sole as their east coast headquarters or something, is that still a thing?
As long as they don’t interfere with Rutgers’s B1G Hockey program, I’m cool with that.

when the casino goes in at the racetrack, this project can do quite well paired with it

You have over a decade where over a billion dollars was spent with a 0% return. No matter what the future holds the project can never be better than "less of a disaster".

If you put that money where it earned only a 1% return you are still starting $100,000,000+ in net income behind.

Thought this thread was about the wrestler. May he rest in peace.

The whole project seems High financial risk, looks tacky and will not help the reputation on NJ around the country. Not a good time to be building a shopping mall. The retail stores are not needed in that area and may not do well.

Agree that NYC tourists will not take public transportation to get there.

A water park next to the NJ Turnpike? Can see the 18 wheelers from the water slides. Is that a selling feature?

The NYC Tourists take a Ferry over to Staten Island. By the thousands everyday. They will have no problem getting on a train to visit this.

I believe that you’re talking about daily commuters who work in NYC.

AFAIK tourists to NYC are generally not from the Island of Staten. They visit from outside areas, like out of state and out of country. Time will tell about the success of George Zoff’s wet dream of a mall. I’m shorting it’s chance of success.

There is some use of the ferry by tourists who use it as an inexpensive and time conserving alternative to going to the Statue of Liberty. But you are correct in saying the overwhelming majority of riders are commuting to work.

No I am not talking about NYC Commuters. I am talking about the Tourists whom take the Roundtrip free Ferry to Staten Island . Literally thousands everyday to see the Statue of Liberty and Harbor. I have been on this hundreds of times. They will have no issue with taking mass transit to a major Tourist attraction in the Meadowlands.

I'll never forget walking into the NY Super Bowl (really in NJ) and overhearing someone from Denver gazing at it and asking out loud what the hell that ugly building was. Everyone who heard him was wondering the same thing.

NJ's rep isn't being enhanced by that monstrosity. And this was years ago. After years of it being started. Ole Zoff really boffed NJ taxpayers on that scam.
By far the ugliest building I have ever seen. What genius selected the "color scheme"?

It's in East Rutherford vs Secaucus, right?
The stores part will be closed on Sundays if it is in Bergen County.

I think I read somewhere they are dismantling those panels. Perhaps the best, and only good decision that has been ever made where this project is concerned. I am still amazed that someone actually got paid to design those awful things.

They should take the mural from the old Alexander's store and put it on the outside of this place.

I dunno if people taking the free Ferry to cruise the harbor and see the Statue of Liberty means they will get on a train to go to a mall in NJ. Pretty skeptical of that.

I wish this project was killed 20 years ago. Now, that's out of the way I don't understand why everyone keeps calling it a mall? This a direct quote from Triple five (owner & developer of the project):

What's the break down?
The mall will consist of 55 percent entertainment and 45 percent retail. In addition to the theme park and water park, there will be Kidzania (a mini city where kids can role play), an indoor snow park, a 235-foot diameter ferris wheel, Sea Life Aquarium, Legoland Discovery Center, an NHL regulation-sized indoor ice rink and a luxury state-of-the-art dine-in movie theater with 4-D screens, Triple Five says.
I see it more as an entertainment location where you can shop if you choose. I can see myself going to the Aquarium or the snow park. Heck, even the theme park as well s the water park would be fun. I know the kids would all be in for the Legoland and the mini-city for kids. It ain't plain Jane like the Garden State Plaza in Paramus.

Damn, it pains me to say all of this. Can't cry over spilled milk.

Did you just put an enormous retail/entertainment complex on the same level as a tourist attraction as the Statue of effing Liberty??

So penny-pinching tourists - who prefer cruising past the Statue of Liberty for free instead of paying money for an actual Liberty Island ferry & tour - are going to pay money for a train ride to a mall & entertainment center to spend more money that they clearly don't have.

Maybe people call it a mall because the first words in the description from the developer are "the mall".

Also, if the quoted percentages are square footage, 55% entertainment means 55% of the space is entertainment, not 55% of the things to do. That could be achieved with a multiplex movie theater, a kids play area, and the ski area. In that case, it's still a shopping mall.

If a McDonalds has a large play room, no one calls it a playground with a McDonalds attached. It is still a McDonalds.

Splitting hairs. It's like the year Colorado claimed a national championship, but so did Georgia Tech.[roll]

Some tourists are cheaper than others, but they have money....if you give them an option to shop for items that might not be sales taxed in NJ, e.g. apparel (or taxed slightly less in NJ than NYC sales tax), you can bet they will seek that out to some extent. Especially if the merchandise they are shopping for is at the hundreds and/or thousands of dollars level.

I absolutely dread the day this thing opens. The traffic nightmare is going to be a quality of life issue for anyone that uses Rt 3 regularly - which is thousands of people commuting via bus to NYC or Hudson County, attending events at MetLife (the other expensive underwhelming mistake in the swamp)

If they didn't extend the PATH there in the 70's,they should have left the place remain as Sportland.

Indeed, traffic will be a nightmare. At least when it does open, the train from Secaucus that currently only travels to the Meadowlands on days of major events will go there on a daily basis.

Dead on. This forum is a veritable sausage-fest. Forgotten is the fact that shoppers tend to overwhelmingly be members of the fairer sex. Yeah, they no longer show up in the numbers they used to, but particularly for reasons mentioned above, yes they will show up. There are plenty of well-heeled Asian women who funnel through EWR and you betcha they'll stop by to shop-til-they-drop.

I think the morning commute will be fine since most malls open at 10:00 am after the morning commute.

Duty free. Big difference.

Again, you’re thinking like a dude. What’s a duty free shop great for? Booze, cigs, souvenirs, items like watches and sunglasses. A woman from say...Taipei who’s looking to burn six hours before her flight out of Newark wants to shop for clothes and shoes and items duty free will not offer.

How does she get there and back?

Is there a plan for a real rail connection other than the one to Secaucus?

No, too expensive I’d think. Run a coach to and from EWR on the hour every hour between the hours of 10am and...4pm? Kinda like how Ikea of Elizabeth runs a bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Uber, taxi, rental car, limo.

If this is a demographic that the mall is targeting, a $10 uber fare is not a barrier.
Do people who spend $25,000 in an international shopping spree travel via Uber? How gauche.
